It's great to have Shiibashi rewarded with a center color page. Is it to celebrate all the cushion made by other series?
Sad to see the masterpiece struggle. It may even end before HxH's back.
And about the sumo series, I'm not really sure about how it will be received. It could be out in no time, or it may become something like Isobe. I'm almost sure it'll sink inmediatly, but we'll see.

So some information was posted just over a week ago by a person that seemed very knowledgeable about some things relating to Jump. After seeing this weeks TOC with Sumo starting next issue it seems he was indeed a person with inside information.

東京湾、第一話の時点で下から数えた方が早いくらいの順位
第二話は表紙より下のアンケだったらしい
新連載が第二話で最下位は珍しく無いが
最下位でも近年稀に見るレベルの票数の少なさだった為
１０週打ち切りになったんだと

ちなみに東京湾の変わりは火ノ丸相撲
５月の新連載は相撲一本のみ

６月のハンタとの入れ替えoutは
４月中には決まってるはずだが聞いて無い
でも多分みんなの予想通りステルスかiショウジョ

スケットのように新キャラとかで巻き返すことも結構あるから
様子見してもらいやすいんじゃないかな

ていうか、普通は連載始まって４～５週くらいの時にある
入れ替え会議では、どんなにアンケ悪くても様子見るものなんだ
でもサッカーは票数が少な過ぎた上に
上層部にも、このまま様子見てもでは伸びしろが無いと判断されて
最初の入れ替えで打ち切り決定なんだと

一番の要因らしい
チャゲチャ連載開始当初から行き詰まって
精神的にも追い込まれて
編集部に寝泊まりしながら描いてたそうだし

銀魂やスケットのように、あまり期待されてなくても

Here are some of the things he shared:

- Stealth Symphony or iShoujo is getting cancelled for Hunter x Hunter which should be next week. (Considering iShoujo is starting a brand new story arc new week, Stealth Symphony is most likely gone)

- Tokyo Wonder Boys chapter 1 reception was bad. Chapter 2 was dead last and had even less votes than the cover of Jump(yes, you can vote for the cover of Jump in your 3 favourite series!).

- It isn't rare for those short gag oneshots that replace series when sudden absences occur to get less votes than the cover but it is rare for an actual serialization.

- The editorial staff usually give some more leeway with series when they look at the results of the new series in weeks 4~5 but Tokyo Wonder Boys had such little amounts of votes and that it probably wouldn't get any better so they just decided to cancel it.

- Chagecha wasn't popular at all and the author gave up. He had no idea what to do from the start.

Knowing Megumi, she is the only one who doesn't convnice with this expression. XD

Shiibashi is a talent that cannot be wasted. Jump editors are right trying to promote him.

I just knew that Nisekoi will bundle an OVA with Volume 14 this October and it will also get a PS Vita game! Apparently, its apex of popularity will not end with the anime.

Just read the one-shot for Hinomaru Zumou not the one from Jump Next the one-shot that appeared in last years 39'th issue. It was ok, cliché, and in all fairness not really my cup of tea but not bad at all, will be interesting to see how it does. I don't think it'll last in contemporary Jump, to much competition in that bottom 7.

Over Time happened inbetween those two, like ten weeks after Fullswing ended. It wasn't very good though. The artist kinda just makes bombs with whatever he touches. Strange how little that's changed in 8 years for Yoichi Amano.

I see. Quite a recipe for disaster there. When I said "in between", I certainly wasn't thinking just ten weeks after Mr. Fullswing ended.

I dont understand why another series needed to be cancelled (if this is true), for HxH with TWB ending.

I wonder had TWB been good if this Sumo manga wouldnt have ever been serialized?

Maybe because they intend to start 2 serializations in addition to Hunter x Hunter.
That would be going back to how things were, three out, three in.

Maybe they want to continue with the system of oneshot per issue. In my opinion, it is a better wasy to evaluate whether an oneshout would make success a series in Jump or not. Sounds reasonable.

The sumo manga was bound to get serialized anyways.

Also, spoiler alert: expect to see Fujimi Killers and Bochikuro coming soon to WSJ.

The thing is, there have been rankings (not sure if they're official or not) going on with each of the side magazines (ie Jump NEXT, VS, etc.), and those series with the highest rankings, at least for the past few issues, automatically earn serialization on WSJ. These include Soul Catcher(s), Iron Knight and Hinomaru Zumo.

Then you have more or less one other series per magazine that gets randomly picked, regardless of ranking, for serialization somewhat later than the aforementioned series. These include Tokyo Wonder Boys, Stealth Symphony and Keitai Shojo which turned into iShojo, though iShojo actually got serialized before Hinomaru Sumo did despite both coming from the same Jump NEXT issue.

So basically, that's the new system the editors of WSJ are following at the moment.



On a sidenote, I'm thoroughly pissed with Tokyo Wonder Boys, because as far as the editors are concerned, GOD FORBID they serialize a mystery/suspense series over a sports series, no matter how much of a failure it can turn out to be. And by failure, I mean easily the worst-performing series of the year.

And for all the experimentation the editors have been doing, TWB is definitely the least experimental attempt as it was likely serialized for one reason only: the FIFA World Cup, which they already tried to do back in late 2010/early 2011, which went just swimmingly. Other than that, it just might be the first serial to be created by anime staff, but who really cares?

This we will have to see in the future because Shokugeki hasn't reached its limits neither without anime nor with it.

Anyhow whilst I think Souma could do really well with an anime its volume sales for 5,6 and 7 whilst on the chart haven't seen much of an increase at all, which for me is a little unsettling. Unsettling in that I imagined the current ongoing arc/s would boost the series' sales somewhat. Again I acknowledge that doing a little less than 300k whilst on the chart is impressive. especially for a manga without an anime, I just thought the current arcs would have raised sales somewhat more, specially with how well Souma performs in the TOC and the growth its sales had earlier on.

If Shokugeki follow the trends, it will get an anime soon and we will have a better panorama to say about whether it has conditions or not to surprass Haikyuu!!.
As 2014 has been Haikyuu!! and Nisekoi year, I can see 2015 being Shokugeki and AC year, they seem the next ones to get anime.

Strangely enough, Soul Catchers interest me as anime because of its musical theme.

Ye Im awaiting a SC anime as well, if it lasts long enough to get one ill be happy. Its definitely a manga that could do well in Anime format, or live action for that matter, though id personally prefer an anime. Assassination Classroom has some insane sales already, with a good anime it could really put itself far ahead of all the other titles in Jump, minus one-piece.

Just read chapter 493 of Gintam , if chapters 492 and 493 dont place near the top of the TOC ill be disappointed in the voters. Haven't laughed that hard for any Gintama chapters in a long while. Its always good but these two chapters, dear god, Just wow. Sorachis outdone himself
