I watch "the East" and it was so-so. It was suspenseful but a tad on the weird side.

---------- Post added at 05:47 AM ---------- Previous post was at 05:47 AM ----------

I just watched "Blade Runner" and "Legend" back to back tonight and Ridley scored an A with both of these films, in my opinion.

Anyone have any information on the possible theatre release or DVD date for "The Wind Rises"....?. Really want to see Miyazaki's last film.
Blade Runner? holy shit that takes me back. Classic.

Yeah and supposedly they're doing a sequel or something...

It might be my favorite SciFi movie ever, and it's definitely my favorite soundtrack

It's clear from the title where this is going; Zac Snyder also being confirmed as leading the following project too. Thoughts?

I think it's going out the same day as Captain America 3. If the third is as good as the second, Batman vs Superman will need a "nolan" quality.

That title is so annoying. And I thought this was a sequel to Man of Steel. It should be " Superman V. Batman" and not the other way around. The hell is Dawn of Justice?.

This is why, Marvel is winning by the way, they get the characters right and don't come up with crappy titles like this. Seriously hope, WB considers changing this title.

Well, it is a sequel to the superman movie but realistically speaking the movie necessarily has to focus on batman. Given the circumstances it would be absurd to make a superman vs batman movie that does not focus on the batman. First of all batman is the objectively superior superhero. Superman might have all the superpowers but that is just it, superman is basically a god among ants, he is boring and there is little room for him to grow or develop as a character. Batman's only power might be an abuse of capitalism but he at least has the benefit of being a ninja and cool gadgets and can kick copious amounts of ass. Batman is badass no matter how you look at him. Superman has all the powers but he can never be badass. More so, in any confrontation between batman and superman batman is invariably going to be the underdog. It does not make sense to make the movie with an underdog if it does not focus on said underdog. They have the choice of making the movie about superman fighting batman (which would be kinda like making a movie about a giant showing an ant what a boot looks like) or batman against superman (which is basically seeing a badass ant standing up to a god and at least giving it a run for its money). The best superhero movies are ultimately not about the superhero itself but rather the villain anyways. Batman needs to be a hell of an antagonist to superman for the movie to be good. There is no scenario in which a superman vs batman movie is not a movie entirely about batman. Now, it is likely the movie won't be just batman vs superman and there will be an antagonist against whom they will fight together and they remain friends or uneasy allies or something.

I would think it is too early to say marvel is "winning". There is only one movie from DC that ties to the future justice league movie. Marvel is definitely doing something right however it is also true that marvel has 20 movies planned. And not all their ideas and superheroes are good to be honest. I mean, somehow it makes sense to make an antman movie to those guys. Antman is a horrible hero.... And they are probably never making a black widow movie which would be awesome... The first hulk movie was a 3 hour nigthmare which barely showed hulk. So terrible in fact that it was ignored later on. The superman vs batman movie will set the tone for the rest of the DC film universe, I am not sure a superman movie (which was as good as a superman movie can be IMO) is the one that defines everything.

That said, I don't think there is anything wrong with that title. What has marvel done that is so awesome? I liked thor 2 but "the dark world" still seems like a terrible title (although it is the only one I consider bad)....

It's obvious they're trying to make this movie as a test-run for a Justice League movie. "Dawn of Justice", get it?

Just saw The Spectacular Now (2013). Entertaining at best, but not memorable.

Saw The Other Woman a few days ago now. It's your pretty standard douchebag who cheats and the women seek revenge, with a few additional subplots but nothing that makes it a spectacular film on its own. There was though, quite a few funny moments.

This is also the first time I've seen Nikolaj Coster-Waldau in anything outside his Game of Thrones appearance( playes Jaime Lannister); he plays the douche quite well :).

a generous 6/10

If you don´t mind subbed foreign movies, try the movie Headhunters, Nikolaj is really good in it

Well, if you want to focus on Batman to the point of him playing an equal role or bigger than Superman, then don't sell this thing as a sequel to "Man of Steel". Make it "Batman VS. Superman" period. That's all I'm saying regarding that. And to play more to the point your trying to make, Wonder Woman is in this film as well and I imagine if DC wishes to be on par with Marvel, when it comes to the movie business, shouldn't you be trying to put as much emphasis on her as well as Batman?.

Regarding what I said concerning Marvel winning against DC, it's a fact and the success they've made isn't a lie as well as the numbers to prove it. Irregardless of Marvel selling their brand to Disney, it's paid off. The brilliant plan they did was make a giant story and split it up into movies on separate characters first and lead it into a movie, where all those characters are together in one film. Making them each iconic can sell by itself and the real payoff is something like "Avengers".

DC ruins themselves by using Batman over and over. Superman is not that hard to sell, the fact is (and you said this yourself), your not giving the Man of Steel a proper story with a challenging and interesting enough villain. And there's plenty to use for at least a trilogy. Lex Luthor could be the side-villain and then there's Brainiac, Darkseid and Doomsday. Those names alone are enough for a proper sequel with or without Batman or Wonder Woman. And back to Wonder Woman for a sec. This sequel to "Man of Steel" should be focused on her more than Batman, give her the character set-up she needs for her on movie. It can work and she could possibly be a bigger hit than Batman ever was. It's possible in today's world.

The Flash can work too. Doing a reboot to Green Lantern and using John Stewart instead could work, too. I just think, DC is putting too much of their concentration on Batman. I mean, first this and now your doing a tv show about Gotham city, before Batman ever existed. Sounds okay, but I didn't forget about the failed "Birds of Prey" and how that turned out. Whatever.

p.s., Got a chance to see "X-Men: Days of Future Past" and I must say, it's a great follow-up to "First Class" as well as tying up some loose ends with the original X-Men trilogy and Wolverine spin-offs. And if you do go and see it, wait for the credits to end completely and get a teaser for another upcoming X-Men film. I'm really excited for this third one.

And I like the ideas they came up with regarding the Sentinels. I was impressed and satisfied, after waiting 14 long years to see these characters on film. Great film and will be seeing it again.

Wonder woman is a nice adition although I would still argue batman needs to have a central role. She is ultimately also a borderline perfect superhuman with powers rivaling superman (depends on the version but still). In that regard safe for the "new" aspect batman is still the objectively better superhero. Wonderwoman is simply put a female superman and developing her will present the same issues as developing superman (who is hard to sell, otherwise it wouldn't have taken 6 movies to get a decent superman movie). Superman is a flawless god with all the superpowers and all the intelligence who is objectively superior from any plausible point of view to any human being. You can't humanize him because its absurd, it implies making a being as superior as him relateable to normal human beings..... You can't, superman is simply too alien and perfect for that. They tried that in this movie and he ultimately looked like a god with teenage angts. He got over the the angst and he was a god who basically told the government to fuck of. And there was nothing the government could do about it. The exact same thing would happen with wonderwoman, a woman born out of clay imbued with the power of gods. Batman is the human element in the story. Batman is the underdog, batman is the one that has to be smart, he is the one that has to be creative, he is the one that has to go beyond punching his problems. His angst is at least proper anger. In any scenario where batman wins it is because the guy did something so spectacularly badass and kicked so much superpowered ass that superman himself has to remember the god damned batman is the one human being on earth who can potentially beat the everloving crap out of him. Wonderwoman needs to be properly developed BUT giving her the same emphasis as to batman would be a mistake. Their objective right now is to make her interesting enough to get people to watch a movie about her, nothing else.

Just look at what marvel has done with its marvel movies so far, in particular the avengers. The avengers wasn't a movie about "the avengers". No matter how you look at it the avengers was an iron man movie. Iron man got the punch lines, iron man got the most time on screen, iron man saved the day. It was not the borderline immortal god, it was not hulk, it was not even black widow or captain steroids.... It was freaking iron man. Ironman is ultimately the better hero there (because everything good about the captain ultimately did come from a bottle). DC's best chance at succeeding with their movies is pretty much the same, they need batman. They need batman to be awesome, they need him to deliver the punchlines, they need him to beat the superpowered beings and they need him to save the day. Because it is simply better than having the superpowered beings in DCverse do it.

To put things in perspective here in regards to how difficult it is to make a batman movie, how many "good" batman movies are there? Realistically speaking most of them are pretty good, the only disaster there is batman & robin. Out of 7 movies there is only one bad movie which is pretty good. What about superman? The most recent one is by far the best one and getting there took 6 tries. Thats how difficult it is to make a superman movie. Thats how difficult it is to make a movie about superpowered beings that can do everything. Thats why an iron man movie is immensely superior to a thor movie. Thats why they can't make a justice league movie that is not about batman. Thats why they picked ben afflect for the role, they needed a good and well known, A list actor for the role (suck it internet, the guy is a good actor no matter how you look at it regardless of daredevil).

Now, they should make other decent superhero movies (the green lantern thing was unacceptable) but their bread and butter will still be batman. It can't be anyone else, there is no one else. I can't fathom anyone else anyways. Just look at the leagues founding members: Superman, batman, wonderwoman, flash, green lantern, aquaman and jonzz. There are other occasional funding members however none of them are as good a choice as batman for a central role. Captain marvel would perhaps be a decent alternative because he is 11 but other than that he is the same as wonderwoman and superman in many ways. Green arrow would be a poor man's batman although a better alternative than any other league member. Cyborg might be interesting although using him would perhaps be too much of an iron man ripoff. Still not a better alternative than batman though.

Anybody else see the new X-Men movie?

Great movie! ..... skipping discussion of it though to get to the last bit...

What about the preview at the very end... It really WAS at the very end of the credits.
We are in the desert (picture Egypt) with a crowd of bowing people and one person standing there with their arms raised in the air... and a pyramid self-assembling.... and 4 other people standing off to the side. No real clear views of anyone's faces... I feel that I should KNOW what the story is about but can't for the life of me recall what it is from. It almost looks like a scene from Stargate.

AH! Here is somebody's cam shot of it!

Apocalypse and the 4 horsemen

By the way, Quicksilver is awesome in this movie. Relatively a small part but Awesome!

yeah I actually never heard of this movie until my boyfriend mentioned it, and I looked it up. I thought it was overrated. Which I only realized when I read the comments of the trailer, and noticed that apparently after this movie both actors' careers just ballooned. Thus I spent an hour watching their interviews on youtube, lol.

I'm going to watch it tonight. About your spoiler part, it's hardly a spoiler. An "Apocalypse" movie is planned for quite a long time. It got an imdb page for months: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3385516/

Yeah, the post-credits scene, I didn't know about it, until someone in the theatre just blurted out whether there was a scene or not and someone responded and said, yeah there is. lol. I sat and waited through the credits and saw the scene and was hyped up for the next movie.

Quicksilver was well done. His time in the movie was done right and no complaints from me. And Magneto (from the past) showed how far he can go with his evil nature, particularly when he dealt with Mystique in Paris and Wolverine towards the end.

Going again to see it tonight.

Just saw it and yes, quicksilver steal the show. Each moment with him is funny and impressive: the kitchen scene is the scene of the movie. Blink got a good little role as well with a very good display of her power. It s funny to see how wolverine is just a vessel in this and nothing else. His fighting skills are almost not used. Beast is used for that. The central character of the movie is in the end raven. Jennifer lawrence is probably the reason for that.

I m probably going to see it again next week with an other group of friends. It s good enough for 2 movie tickets

This movie is trying too hard. I mean, why did I even convince myself that it would be at least entertaining? First 10 minutes and I'm nauseous.

Oh baboysai, the overhelming amoung of negative reviews wasn't enough to show how bad it would be? :3c

The order of the names is already such a big problem for you? Oo Who cares, not even nerds care for the obvious reason that Batman is simply the bigger franchise and allows them to pull more viewers this way. It says nothing about the content of the movie. Their crossover comic is titled like that too, since they aren't using the unified symbol anymore.

Seen Godzilla last week and it was pretty much as expected. Quiet good, but it couldn't hold up to X-Men:DOFP, which was great. As others mentioned, the Quicksilver scene was probably the best of the whole movie, Blink got my attention too with their good use of powers, even if she may haven't even spoken two sentences throughout the whole movie. I liked how so many characters had their time to shine, a bit disappointing that Toad, Havoc and co only had cameo like appearances at the beginning. They wouldn't have been able to change much ontheir own anyway though. I'm excited whom they are gonna use for Age of Apocalypse, now that Jeph Loeb is working with Marvel on Shield, he probably will have no influence on the project whatsoever.
