Re: Help translating these 'Ninja Slayer' characters

I'm looking for the names of these Ninja Slayer characters, their names are in the picture in japanese.

Forever grattitude for those who can help me translate their names :)

電鰻 ========= Electric Eel
爆破者 ======== The One of Explosions (The man of explosions; He who explodes... something of that sort. The Explosion-er?? Lol)
追隨者 ======== Follower
剣舞者 ======== Sword Dancer
胡桃鉗 ======== Nutcracker (literally: Walnut Pincer)
指弾 ========= Flick ("Shidan" means "flick" or "flip." Literally "finger+flick." Judging from the title, the fantastical art style, and other character names, I suppose it's one of those techniques where the attacker "flicks" pellets of the sort at enemies.)

くぱぁ ========= kupa (sound effect)
ナッツクラッカー === Nutcracker
ソードダンサー ==== Sword dancer

Re: Help translating these 'Ninja Slayer' characters

Thanks for the translations!

Managed to find them all on the japanese wiki page,
http://wikiwiki.jp/njslyr/?%A5%CB%A5%F3%A5%B8%A5%E3%CC%BE%B4%D5%C5%D0%BE%EC%BC%D4%B0%EC%CD%F7

except for:

Are the ones written in kanji for the top few pictures and the other lower 2, in katakana or hiragana? What is the katakan or hiragana for 追隨者/Follower?

Again many thanks!

Yes that is correct.

The names on the coloured images are all in kanji.

The names in the last two sketches are in katakana. These two are literally pronounced as Nutcracker and Sword Dancer respectively.

Just a side note, the names are likely to be pronounced according to their "katakana label" rather than how the kanji originally indicates.

Eg. 剣舞者 should be literally kenbusha, but the latter sketch shows the supposedly same character under the katakana label ソードダンサー (sword dancer.)

So, while 追隨者 (Follower) is pronounced tsuizuisha in Japanese, they probably have a different way of saying the name (other than "Follower") but I currently don't have time to go through the list of 400+ names to figure out which one it could be, lol.

Haha of course. Just thought Kanji could literally be translated into katakana. That would've made a ctrl+f search a lot easier.

But I did manage to find the ones through, Electric Eel, Sword Dancer and Nut Cracker where completely correct. And Flick Shot was another easy find. Explosioner also seems correct although i found him under 'Ekusupuroshibu' probably just 'Explosive'?

Although sometimes i don't get the kanji, there was another character called Hebikai which was something like Snake Monster? But the correct english translation was Cockatrice (Kokkatorisu) which is nothing like snake monster :/

Yeah, Explosive is likely the one in your scan.

Hmm Heibikai immediately makes me think he owns pet snakes (蛇飼い) :XD Do you know the exact kanji for that character? Cockatrice is a rooster x dragon, and dragons can be associated with snakes in some cases.

Re: Help translating these 'Ninja Slayer' characters

I found 追隨者/Tsuizuisha/Follower as Myrmidon:

Another one where the kanji doesn't look like the actual name (and another greek name)...

Yeah, Explosive is likely the one in your scan.

Here is the picture of Cockatrice with the kanji.

Thanks again for all your help! Without you couldn't have found the name of all these characters.

Hi there,

I was hoping is someone could help me with the proper translation for this since it keeps giving me different pronunciations.
If possible the japnese and english translation for this one. Red List is a part of it but need a proper title for it in japanese and english.
レッドリスト―芒神― < as you can see there is no furigana......
"芒" is a compound which starts with "Bou" but can have a different wording for example "Bougami" < this one is the one myself and two others have mentioned but need proper confirmation since the author "奕辰" 與, read as Ekitatsu Atou < might be spelled wrong would be helpful if this can also be corrected in spelling.
Thanks.

Hiya, I was wondering if you would really want to turn his name into a Japanese reading. His go-by name is spelt "eat" (since he's Taiwanese his name is technically pronounced "yi chen," or "I-CHEN" on his site; click here for his Profile page.)

I also wondered if you obtained his name from this site or maybe another page with a similar title: http://www.fiito.com/article/B20140102000001
The 與 is not part of his name in this case. It simply means "and."

Since there isn't an official Japanese title for his work as far as I know reading as far as I have looked, anything could go. But if I should venture a guess, a viable reading for 芒神 could be モシナ or something of the sort (one of those 'forced' furigana,) since he uses the English name "MOSINA" in several instances (eg. one of his tags for his series on pixiv is "MOSINA.") Or another possibility could be "boushin" to reflect the original Mandarin reading "mang shen."

Hope this vaguely helps.

Thanks for the response but the main translation I was looking for was in reference to the name of the titled series.
レッドリスト―芒神― How would you pronounce this in japanese and english?

Hi, do refer back to my previous post for the explanation (last paragraph.) To summarise, my take would be something like:
- Red List - MOSINA [English]
- reddo risuto - moshina [Japanese]
- reddo risuto - boushin [Japanese alt.]

Not sure if this is what you want to hear.

Sorry if I had sounded rude.
I got the issue mainly with the pronouncing because "芒" can have different meanings i.e. starting "bou" but in my perspective came to "bougami", "boushin" was also another I considered.

Reddo Risuto - Bougami could be one also wouldn't it?

Thanks for the english one I got Red List myself but was unsure about the word after the "Red List -" so Mosina is acceptable to place in?

Also this one 神様のオモチャ—THE WORLD— basically means God's toy - THE WORLD in english?

[Japanese] Yes, 芒神: れっどりすと -ぼうじん-/ Reddo Risto Risuto -Boujin-. is probably more common than "Boushin."

芒:Since it's not a JP name, I would expect it to be read in onyomi rather than kunyomi. "Bou" is in onyomi. The translator should put some furigana if s/he wants 芒神 to be pronounced somewhat closed to the original Chinese name or something else.

神 (shin): Shin generally becomes voiced (jin) when used in a compound noun just like the clan's nickname 魔神 (majin). Original pronunciation is chen, so "shin" (voiceless) is fine as well, but Japanese people wouldn't know that, so furigana should be added.

Oh gosh, sorry about the rendaku thing. Yes, "Boujin."

Also, the only reason I suggest 芒神 ---> MOSINA is because MOSINA is the original title of the series. Since the name "レッドリスト―芒神―" is the adapted title for the Japanese version, I wonder if I could use the same "MOSINA" for the "芒神" bit. That is all there is to it.

Yes.
Thanks for the very well explained terms, my japanese isn't the best but certain compounds with no proper pronunciation from the author can always give me a headache and thought best that translators would be a great alternative to discuss this with. Both you and Utsune have given a much wider insight about this and all I can say is thank you for the assistance and information about this.

No worries, I should just be grateful for you guys to be able to assist me with this.
About the author its as you say but another translator had done some searches and there was a small interview with him giving his full name as 奕辰 與 - which came as Ekitatsu Atou < although spelling may be wrong "奕辰" < this part is what the japanese sites have although "芒神" MOSINA is the other but both appear on pixiv.

Hi, Amario. You're welcome. I meant Risuto (not Risto) in Romaji just in case. I browsed through some sites, but I was unable to find out the official way to read 芒神 either. Good luck to your project.

Hmm I'm not entirely sure where this is from, but his 奕辰 is his given name, and it seems he goes by that in his work. You can see it here: http://www.eat0123.url.tw/about.html (His surname is most probably Lin 林.) If you have the site where it says 奕辰 與, feel free to drop the link and I'll give it a double-check.

It's about Bibidy.

"He ravages stars and planets together with Majin Buu.

Long ago, the sorcerer (wizard? mage? it's been so long I've read Dragonball that I forgot) Bibidy ravaged stars and planets with Majin Buu and at last they came even to Earth. However,"
