It's not that complicated, all fighters have their own unique magic, King's unique magic is Disaster, Helbram's unique magic is Link. The ability to use powers of the Fairy Tree is common to all Fairies,

Do you think shapeshifting is the special ability of Chastiefol or there's something else?
Well it was said that King uses disaster in conjunction with Chastefiol so shape-shifting is probably a bit of both. I don't think Chastefiol would have another ability.

Well, there is the chastiefol release which does not seem to be connected to either the tree or king so to speak. The king is supposed to have a number of powers however so far they always relate to something trees have. Its pollen, its moss, flowers, etc... King in turn uses disaster which has a number of vague yet powerful abilities. The release seems to be a more powerful form of chastiefol however as far as we have seen it does not seem to have anything we can immediately connect to either disaster or the tree. So it would make sense the release was some sort of unique trait chastiefol has.

Well that's why I said it's probably a bit of both. We know disaster is used in conjunction with Chastefiol but the true form is likely an innate ability of Chastefiol on its own. Though to be fair, we're not exactly clear on how disaster works with Chastefiol so even the true form could be related to disaster.

Re: Nanatsu no Taizai 40 Discussion/ 141 Predictions

It does not seem like beastmen have any power to speak of though. At least not zhivago. If anything the point here is just how absurdly weak at least zhivago's breed of beastment is. We know how humans compare to the other great clans, they are at about the range of pathetically weak in comparison. Beastmen in turn seem to be less numerous and less powerful than humans. Zhivago was apparently beaten up by regular humans after all, not even HKs.

I think zhivago's role will be to point ban in the right direction in regards to reviving elaine. He will probably know something about the resurrections in question.

on another note, its sort of a shame that ban probably didn't know his blood could heal others back when he just became immortal. Had he known he would have been able to save elaine on the spot. Unless of course his ability to do this is limited.

I still doubt the sacred tree is the huge tree in the middle of the fairy king's forest. Even now the manga has yet to refer to it that way. It's always the great tree or the almoca tree or whatnot. More so, the sacred tree itself is supposed to have incredible healing powers itself. Which is why chastiefol can be destroyed and it simply regenerates almost immediately. The scenario so far is that the sacred tree is supposed to be a source of immense power, one so great that can be used to fight other powerful beings including the commandments. The great tree has been destroyed by a red demon which is pretty much a ridiculously weak creature and the albion, a toy. The idea that the sacred tree could be destroyed by such worthless creatures stands at odds with the idea of it being an immensely powerful weapon (though weapon is probably the least of its functions).
Well, MangaStream referred to it as "the sacred tree".
Its ability to give Chastiefol an immense amount of power does not mean that the tree itself can put up a fight. Personally, I simply see the "channeling" of certain powers.

Within the context of the manga, chastiefol having that power means precisely that the tree itself can do all of that and more. Chastiefol is made from the tree itself and has the same powers. Chastiefol is by all intents and purposes an actual and functional part of the tree. Every single form chastiefol has is literally a power the tree has. In most cases king explains how exactly each form relates to the tree. The pillow being the moss, pollen garden being about its, well pollen and healing abilities... The sunflower king uses to fire beams is a literal flower of the tree, in fact even the other fairies recognized it (meaning it can't be solely related to chastiefol) and wondered why it was there which would be weird if it was something which appeared commonly at the tree. The flower is perhaps an indication of something else, the sheer size of the actual tree. King's sunflower is gigantic, much too big to be a flower of the great tree. And we also saw helbram use the sacred tree's roots. The thinnest roots he called them. With this is mind, the sacred tree itself is most likely astronomically huge, enough to easily dwarf the original great tree and the current young one.

But Chastiefol is still a weapon, whereas the tree is not. I'm not implying that it lacks possession of certain abilities, but what if only fairies can utilize its power?
As for the roots, we have no idea how big they are underground (they could cover the whole forest); those "thin" roots are dwarfed by the tree itself.

That's neither here nor there, it does not change that chastiefol is basically a functional part of the tree itself even if it has been weaponized. We have little to no reason to think chastiefol works independently from the tree itself.

Assuming that the roots helbram used were a part of the great tree at the fairy king's forest would imply that it's roots literally cover at least the whole of britania and that helbram was using a tree which at the time he literally thought did not exist altogether (same with king, he would have been using the power of a tree which he also thought long dead). I doubt location is relevant to summing the tree, the implication is that fairies can summon the tree directly from the fairy realm. And even then, there is the actual sacred tree's flower which king is able to call forth. It's immense, too big to be a flower from the great tree. The fairies make the point that that is the flower that blooms at the fairy realm and wonder why is it there at all. Even though according to what you are saying the fairy realm would presumably be literally where they stand which would make the appearance of the sunflower not weird at all.

The difference is that Chastiefol is being utilized by the Fairy King, whereas the tree is not. It is not illogical to assume that the tree itself is unable to fight, but is instead utilized by the fairies.

That is a point that does not coincide with the rest, I do agree.
It is weird how Helbram was able to summon the roots, and the same thing applies to King. Well, the latter is more plausible due to the presence of Chastiefol, but still.
Perhaps because only King can summon the mentioned flower? It's not far-fetched.

If it is not this tree, I don't see why it would be referred to as the Sacred Tree. It is also illogical for the Fairy King and his family to rule over a mere forest.

That's an interesting theory. For what it's worth, I think you're reading too much into it and IMO the great tree and sacred tree refer to the same thing. If it turns out that you're right, I'll gladly eat my words.

In this chapter though, Zhivago referred to the big tree in the middle of the forest as でかい大樹 (dekai taiju) which literally means "gigantic great tree." My proofreader slapped me and told me to stop being so redundant and awkward and edited it to "gigantic tree."

Well, my idea is pretty much based on your translation so you are the one that would probably best be able to tell if there is anything to it. What I am going on is that the fairy realm and the fairy king's forest have never been explicitly refer to as the same thing along with the sacred tree and the great tree not being called the same thing at any point in the manga. After that comes the other evidence I proposed (the sunflower, the thin roots, king and helbram using the tree even though a demon literally obliterated it). So... have the great tree ever been referred to as the sacred tree? Even if it has I would still be surprised that it could be so easily be destroyed by lowliest class of demons even though it provides fairies with so much power (and presumably even enough for past fairy kings to match or surpass commandments) and chastiefol can so evidently regenerate.

Well, who uses the tree certainly makes a difference but even that is not too relevant. The tree has at least inherent defensive properties considering its regeneration and pollen garden which means it should not be so easily destroyed, at least not by a red demon. Not to mention that the description of how fairies fight is by drawing power from the sacred tree which by itself implies the tree has a degree of power. Even when king fought helbram the implication was that king won because he could draw more power from the tree. It wasn't even because he was fairy king or anything.

As far as I can tell the tree at the fairy king's forest has never been refered to as the actual sacred tree (at least not that I recall in redhawk translations). Of course, the implication is that the great tree is also a magical tree as well. Just not the source of the fairy's power. Also, king's family certainly does not rule over a mere forest. The sacred tree chooses the fairy king which implies familial relationships are not relevant to the thing. Elaine was able to take over king's function as fairy king however she and king seem to have something weird going on about their wings and overall appearance which is more human like that the other fairies. Even then it does not seem like fairies overall have familial relationships. They are un-aging, culture-less creatures after all, how sexual reproduction and family fit into that?

Sure, but the fairy king is likely able to draw more power - he is the chosen one, after all.
Again, I do see your point, but we haven't been given anything to conclude that there's another fairy realm. I wouldn't mind if there was, since I find your argument interesting, but as of now, we've only been given this "realm".

It was referred to as the Sacred Tree on MS, but not on Red Hawk.
Of course, but why wouldn't the Sacred Tree choose the king in order to protect itself, but rather a forest? The forest and its tree have been mentioned to be the most crucial things for the fairies, so it would be slightly weird if there was another realm which contained the real realm.
Fairies certainly use sexual reproduction; they have are not exact copies of their parents and they fall in love. That's not the point here, though.
All I'm saying is that the King should have been protecting the tree (if there is another one) and not the forest.

It depends on a number of things really. The fairy king seems to have functions beyond merely ruling over fairies. Take what gerhard said, she made the point that the fairy king could actually restore the forest even if it was destroyed. Basically gerhard, the only fairy we have seen who seems to know something about fairies, regarded king higher than the lifes of the great tree and other fairies. Which is weird considering it is something king could have done earlier rather than what he did (squat). I wouldn't be surprised if king was chosen by the tree because he could draw more power rather than being able to draw more power because he is the king. One way or the other the implication is that king could draw out more power from the tree because he was kinder than then then currently evil helbram rather than because he was the fairy king.

Hasn't the sacred tree been said to be a spiritual thing? Well, at least chastiefol has been referred to as spirit spear. Within the context of a spiritual tree so to speak it makes sense that there would be another realm for it to inhabit. Or if we consider helbram summoned the roots of the tree at the kingdom. Either the roots were there to begin with or the tree and its power can be summoned from pretty much anywhere given that it is in another realm along with its spiritual nature.

Well, its not like them not having sexual reproduction would immediately make them just as ants. As far as falling in love, that is something only king an elaine have done so far, precisely the two fairies whom we know are specifically different from every other fairy in terms of appearance and probably even power (elaine could easily handle ban after all, she can't be that weak). From what we have seen the rest of the other fairies are basically childlike, lazy and without culture. I wouldn't be so sure that they do reproduce asexually. My personal crackpot theory is that they come from the sacred tree directly. There is also what gerhard said. Gerhard made the point that as long as the fairy king existed everything could be rebuilt. Which wouldn't make sense if literally every other fairy dies as there would be no one for king to impregnate. In other words the fairy king in the long run on his own can potentially restore the forest and its population. Somehow.

I'm not completely discarding King's intentions, either; I'm pretty sure his status will have to do with the amount of power he can draw out in the future though, if it hasn't already.

That's a very broad topic, so all we can do is speculate at this point. However, the fairy realm's being a spiritual existence is not implausible.
Perhaps it is a physical realm (if it is distinct from the one we know), but power can be generated from it through "spirituality"? That is, anyone connected to it can utilize its potency without the need of an object to be there for it to manifest; that could explain Helbram's ability.

Actually, it would. Asexual reproduction (in real life) manifests as a completely identical copy between generations. However, if the tree "gives birth" to fairies as you stated, that's different.
However, for Elaine to be Harlequin's sister, either sexual or asexual reproduction is required, and the latter is implausible due to the aforementioned reasons.
Interesting theory you've got there. Oh well, we'll have to wait and see.

There are two terms: 神樹 (shinju) and 大樹 (taiju).

神: God, holy, sacred
大: Big, great
樹: Tree

Where shinju is used, it's translated as "sacred tree" while for taiju, "great tree/gigantic tree/majestic tree" is used for translation.

Example of shinju here and example of taiju here

I see... so, they're either different trees or Zhivago simply generalized it as the "great tree". It might be either, really.

Somehow.
If they reproduced asexually, why would they have male and female fairies?

I see... so, they're either different trees or Zhivago simply generalized it as the "great tree". It might be either, really.
I'd have to double check this, but I believe the fairies use the term "sacred tree" and humans and other nonfairies use "great tree." I think the fairies hold the tree in reverence, while to non-fairies it's just a big tree.

At least what I recall from your translations it does not seem like fairies have refered to the great tree at the fairy king's forest as sacred or god tree. Humans have spoken very little of the sacred tree, it has only been mentioned when speaking of chastiefol IIRC.

Upon double checking, fairies do refer to the big tree as "great tree" so please forget what I said. lol

I've been thinking. What if Chastiefol isn't King's Spirit Spear? We know that Spirit Spears are given to the Fairy King by the Tree, but why is it that King had to receive Chastiefol from Bartras? What if Chastiefol was Dhalia's Spirit Spear and King has yet to receive his own for some reason? It's a potential power up for him after he gets his wings.

That is, unless Nakaba hasn't decided to retroactively change the origins of the Sacred Treasures.
