Doubt Acno could insta one-shot Irene even if he wanted to do it (although he undoubtably still destroys her), people have a bad habit of grouping everyone in Serenas speed tier (Irene would have just started with Universe One otherwise). Irene probably Mid-High Diffs Gildarts, and thats assuming that Gildarts does anything in this arc against the heavy hitters (ie Irene, August or Larcade). If Gildarts doesn't end up adding up to anything and just stays at Serena level (via hype) then Irene easy-diffs him (cause she easy-diffs Serena).

Whats with the recent spike in gildarts wank anyways? If anything he has underperformed. He has nothing but one hype statement he made himself going for him and that one large AoE feat (though it still wasn't all that impressive).

Gildarts wins, guy was hyped as Fairy Tail's strongest wizard when he appeared this arc, and he was up against some pretty stiff competition with Laxus and Natsu in the running.
No he wasn't......maybe by an editors note but what they say doesn't mean anything.

Eileens did well to not get one shotted by Acno, but dodging one casual attack isnt as impressive as a lot of people are making it out to be imo. Plus Eileens probably gonna get beaten by Erza soo.
I mean, if she gets beaten by Erza alone that just means that Erza got some massive power-up and is now top-tier spriggan level and stronger then Gildarts. That probably won't happen though, she is going to get help from someone (maybe Jellal).

Mashima let the editors note go through, so it means something and imo either Laxus or Natsu could give Eileen a good fight, her feats are impressive but as i said, i dont find dodging a casual attack from Acno that amazing.
I'll wait til Eileen fights a regular opponent before i form an opinion on whether or not she lives up to her hype.
Jellal & Erza vs Eileen would be a good fight if it happens, a high diff fight against those two would justify Eileens hype imo, but if GIldarts fights August alone then i'll still give Gildarts the win.

Dude, how do you even know that? I'll admit Irene stomps when I see it.

You act like the answer is obvious, yet Mashima hasn't even started drafting the chapter yet.

That's some major confidence you have there and there is no proof to back it up.

What happens if Gildartz is actually indeed stronger than Irene? Your post would sound ridiculous.

Either you are actually Mashima behind the screen or you have Extra Sensory Perception; otherwise, you have major guts to say that.
--- Double Post Merged, , Original Post Date: ---

Acno didn't miss on purpose?

Are you implying Irene could dodge Acnologia's attack if she wanted to???
Because nothing implies Acno missed on purpose, that's something you pulled straight from your ass.

The answer is obvious. It's been made PAINFULLY CLEAR that aside from E.N.D, Zeref and Acnologia that Irene and August are pretty much the strongest.

Nothing to back it up? You're the one making the silly claim, nothing in the scene backs up Acno missing on purpose, heck if he did Irene would have no reason to dodge.

Guess what? GILDARTS WONT BE STRONGER THAN IRENE. Gildarts already admitted he'd have his hands full with someone much weaker than Irene (God Serena).

You have guts to say otherwise when Hiro had been trying to make it painfully clear that Irene and August are the strongest human mages.

And no, I'm not implying Irene could dodge Acno's attack, im flat out saying she can because she did.

Irene stomps man... she acknowledged she couldn't even handle Acno... who almost murked Gildarts. Hype or no hype, it's not a contest.

Na thats not how it works. Hiro gives his draft to the editors and if they like it then they publish it and add a little something at the end themselves to hype people for the next one. Sometimes they don't even do it and its the translators that do it, i'm pretty sure in this case its even the latter.

Sure, but Gildarts isn't going to fight August alone.

Irene bodies him. The guy got annihilated by Acno in the blink of an eye while Irene pushed him back and got praise from Acno for her prowess. The difference in power between Irene and Gildarts is tremendous.

Look, I really don't care to argue with you anymore. Say what you want and I'll back off.

There is only one part of your post that really annoys me.

It think the chapter heavily implied that Acno missed his nuke on purpose.

A person who is on the caliber of slaying thousands of dragons would not miss a nuke on a single mage.

Please, I'm sick and tired of this BS excuse and this kind of talk.

As far as I'm concerned, Acnologia can oneshot Irene whether it is with a nuke or pure hand-to-hand combat.

Well Acnologia did attack her beneath Irene and Irene showed quick reflexes to dodge it.And moreover she got praised by the Dragon King himself and his praise holds above anyone. And look how Acnologia treated Gildarts. He didn't praise him and finished him in one swoop. He considered Gildarts an insect if we go by Zeref's words and didn't give any praise. On the other hand Irene got praised. This is Hiro's way of showing who is the stronger one.

Irene didn't dodge anything, I'm sorry.

Acnologia simply missed on purpose so that she can avoid the falling debris.

That isn't considered dodging one of Acnologia's eruptions... as Axiomus stated.

The fact is simple, Irene didn't dodge anything from Acnologia. That's doesn't count as a feat because Acnologia had no intention of hitting her.

If Acnologia did, Irene would not be able to dodge one of Acnologia's eruptions.

I have no further interest to discuss this topic, nor do I care about anybody else's opinion regarding this topic anymore.

Sorry, but I can't stand to argue with this ridiculous topic any longer.

There is no contradiction.

Acnologia can tear a hole in Irene if he wanted to with his physical attacks.
Irene can dodge Acnologia's eruptions.

Both are true. Acnologia's physical attacks are faster than his eruptions. His eruptions aren't instant. The ground starts to blow up, and you have some time to jump out of the way before the actual blast consumes you. I never said that hand to hand attacks are stronger than large nuke, though they absolutely can be in some cases (Igneel's bite vs Igneel's roar). I said Acnologia's physical attacks are faster than his eruptions.

Listen, I'm really tired of this utter bullshit.

I'm going to ask you 1 simple question that you can think to yourself about (I don't care to hear an answer back, so don't bother):

1.) How can a person who has slayed thousands of dragons over centuries have nukes slower than Irene's dodging speed?

You said yourself that dragons have impressive speed feats of smashing through all of the faces.

If Acnologia couldn't hit Irene with a nuke, what makes you think he could hit a dragon?

He is the cause of the dragons' extinction. Dragons are afraid of Acnologia.

Clearly, his eruptions and nukes are faster than Irene's dodging speed if they can connect with a dragon, let alone instill fear in the dragons' race.

He's killed many dragons as a dragon slayer... Irene's dodging speed feats cannot be faster than Acno's attack speed feats.

My point is simple and clear. Acnologia missed his nuke on purpose... it has nothing to do with his eruption being slow.

So you can save yourself the trouble from making anymore excuses.

Acnologia, who can be considered one of the strongest characters in Fairy Tail, cannot have slow eruptions.

Especially not eruptions slower beneath Irene's dodging speed.

The dude who caused the genocide of the entire dragons' race and who was the slayer of Igneel cannot possibly be subjected to the likes of Irene's speed.

Irene isn't dodging anything from Acnologia. The most you can say is that Acnologia gave Irene another chance at living.

This will be my last reference to this subject. My viewpoint on this matter can be easily summed up in this post, and I refuse to change my opinion to anything else but this.....

Well you just skipped the point on Acnologia praising Irene but not Gildarts. You could have put light on this atleast.

Well, two things:

1.) Acnologia gave Irene a chance to showcase her power. Acnologia was more surprised of Irene's magic rather than her actual skill level or power. She only amused him through what her magic does.

Plus, as far as we know, Acnologia never gave Gildartz a chance to attack. Gildartz said that Acnologia gutted him before he knew it.

Which leads me on to my next point...

2.) Gildartz fought Acnologia in his black dragon form, which is totally different from Irene who fought Acnologia in his human form.

Acnologia is probably a lot stronger as a dragon because a dragon's physique is superior to a human's physique.

Plus, as a dragon, Acnologia likely treats his opponents like vermin and doesn't interact with them the same way he does when he possesses his human qualities.

Acnologia might or might not have found Gildartz formidable, I don't know.... but it's probable that he didn't comment anything about it because he was in his black dragon form.

I don't think it's too far-fetched to explain it that way.

I don't know what Acno's blast was against Irene. It certainly doesn't come across as a Dragon Slayer Spell. I'm struggling to recall a slayer spell that isn't projected from the body of the slayer.

Given Acno is an experienced wizard, I'm willing to be he used an enchantment himself to 'show off' a bit. That's a guess from me. Regardless, I count Acno gutting Serena as different to attacking Irene. The intent is certainly different.

Acnologia launched an attack at Irene. Irene jumped out of the way, and wasn't harmed by it. This is a textbook example of what dodging an attack involves. To answer your question. Just because Acnologia has the power to kill dragons, doesn't mean all his nukes are super fast. Not all of Acnologia's attacks are fast. Acnologia's roar, for example, takes a while to charge and people can recognize he's about to cast it. His physical attacks are evidently faster. What's so hard to grasp about that?

Let me ask you a few questions in return. How could Acnologia possibly have tried to "miss"a nuke of that size against Irene? The eruption was literally happening beneath Irene's feet, and if Irene didn't jump out of the way she would have been subject to the full force of the attack. The only way this makes sense is if Acnologia purposely made his attack slow....and that doesn't change the fact that the attack was slow.

Why would an attack need to be faster than Irene's reaction speed to be threatening to a dragon? The dragon slayers during the GMG could land attacks on the dragons. They didn't deal any real damage, but that has nothing to do with attack speed. Not all dragons displayed the speed feats of the parent dragons. Dragons like Igneel can already dodge Acnologia's roar, or intercept him before he can complete it...and so Acnologia's main form of combat against any higher caliber dragon is yet again his physical attacks.

Just in response to your question:

The majority of the eruption was actually behind Irene's feet. Where Irene stood, only a fraction of the eruption was present, mainly for debris and aftershock effect.

As I said before, Acnologia only gave Irene time to avoid the debris from the result of the attack. In any case, Irene dodged nothing but an uneven surface on the ground.

She in no way, shape, or form dodged Acnologia's eruption.

The eruption purposely missed itself, Acnologia is experienced enough that he can accurately aim his nuke. He missed it on purpose, it's not difficult to understand.

Acnologia's eruption is not slow, he just casted on a location that would not kill Irene.

Okay, come on. You can see the explosion behind, beside, and in-front of her. She was in the middle of it. Also, it's not like Acnologia's explosion was targeted to one square foot. It was at least on the scale of a small building. How do you realistically aim to "miss" a human sized target with an attack of that size? Also, what you're saying about the explosion being primarily behind her doesn't make sense in the context of what happened. Irene jumped backwards, so that the crater was between her and Acnologia. If the explosion was behind Irene, then she would have had to have jumped into the explosion to dodge it (she didn't jump particularly high). Which would not only be stupid on Irene's part, but it would mean she either tanked the explosion, or outraced it altogether.

Nope, the explosion was definitely behind her, I could see her face, boobs, thighs, and legs, as well as the rest of her body.

Irene jumped to avoid falling into the crater. She dodged the debris and after-effects of the blast, but not the explosion itself.

The explosion was so quick that she looked like a deer in front of a headlight when it happened.

The eruption was already in the middle of exploding when Irene was still standing there.

So if the eruption had intended to hit her, it would have already blown her to pieces before she could jump.

Look at how large the explosion was behind her back.

It surely would have disintegrated her body by then if it was meant to hit her.

Look at the lines infront of her staff.

Again, Irene jumped backwards. If she wanted to avoid falling into the hole, then she should have jumped forwards into solid ground, not backwards in an attempt to clear the entire crater.

Like I said, the lines in front of her staff were barely anything, it was only the aftershock of the entire explosion. It was meant to surprise Irene, not hit her.

Of course Irene would jump backwards.. what do you want her to do? Jump forwards?

Jumping forwards means she would be leaping into Acnologia's face, and after that explosion, I don't know who in their right mind would be jumping towards Acnologia.

Notice how Irene took several big leaps back. That's why she jumped that many times, because the crater was large.

If the crater was small, she would only need 1 leap, but she took several otherwise she would fall in.

And plus, I would rather leap several times backwards and have a large ass crater in between me and Acnologia... than leap once forward and come face to face with Acno.

Ok first of all, no she did not jump several times, the multiple images of her were just to show her movement. How the hell do you expect her to jump without hitting solid ground?

And secondly, you can clearly see in that panel that there's no crater underneath Irene when she jumps.

The lines in front of the lines meant that there was stuff happening in front of Irene.
Irene didn't take several jumps. She did a backflip, and that was what was shown. She didn't jump particularly high either.

How do you not get this? The crater didn't come out of nowhere. The crater marked the place where the explosion used to be. If Irene jumped backwards that meant she would have been jumping INTO the explosion. Not only that, but it would have been harder to not fall into the crater. She certainly didn't jump high enough to go over the explosion. Look at these two images. Which one seems to be more practical to do if you were Irene and wanted to get away from the explosion?
