Fans are calling the latest chapter "homophobic" and are burning physical copies of the manga.

The international fanbase went insane after chapter 125 of Tokyo Ghoul leaked online. Scanners quickly translated the chapter and fans were eager to read it, but a large segment of the fanbase went apeshit upon learning that Kaneki and Touka have sex!

If you’ve read Tokyo Ghoul from the start or watched the anime, you’ll know that it is obvious that Kaneki and Touka have feelings for each other. But, a dedicated segment of fans were adamant that Kaneki and his male best friend Hide would end up as a couple…only to have their ship destroyed by Sui Ishida.

Most fanbases have ravenous shipping wars, and it’s not uncommon for popular ships to sink because they don’t fit into the story. Even Fairy Tail creator Hiro Mashima had to plead with his fans to stop attacking each other based on shipping.

Sadly, Tokyo Ghoul fans didn’t get the message as they promptly attacked Ishida on social media with claims that he is homophobic and sharing pictures burning Tokyo Ghoul manga copies. Some fans even demanded that Ishida commits suicide while sharing their joy in pirating the series instead of legally supporting their once favorite manga.

However, there are Tokyo Ghoul fans who are teaming up to show Ishida their appreciation for his work and to counter-balance the vile comments towards him. The Tokyo Ghoul subreddit is planning on a campaign to send Ishida positive messages and fanart using the hashtag #IshidaAppreciation around May 27th or June 1st.

I read up on all that. I just joined Twitter to show my support for TG. There's a #sotonamiappreciation #ishidaAppreciation hashtag going on right now because of it. Send those good vibes.

It still boggles my mind that Hidekane shippers thought their ship was going to be cannon. What kind of delussional... It's obvious that Hide and Kaneki like girls... they're both straight... from the beginning of TG. And we don't even know if Hide is even alive. He has been absent for 3 years in the tg universe....

That's frankly irrelevant. Even if it had been the most probable thing in the world, common sense should dictate that only one person's preferences and ideas really matter when writing a story: those of the author. Readers are faced with the simple choice of [read/don't read], or rather [buy/don't buy], in order to show their support or disapproval of the product.

Of course, sharing opinions is fine in general, but anything beyond that has no place in an author-reader relationship.

Im incensed right now, all these "fans" are seriously sick if they are harassing Ishida to this level in the social media. I knew that a certain sector of the TG fanbase was carcinogenic but this is stupid.
I hope Ishida knows those idiots are a minority, its a shame that he has to treat with such ingrateful and egoist people.

I feel like nothing's really coming from discussing this further. Everything that can be said has been said multiple times on multiple occasions (whenever TG Twitter or Tumblr nonsense is brought up).

If you guys still feel like you want to say more, then maybe you should talk to the people actually saying those things you take offense and try to start a respectful discussion and/or "cancel out" the hate by showing your support. Send Ishida a dm, a tweet, fanart, letter, whatever.

It's long been a strong point of criticism toward Studio Pierrot in regards to their treatment of the adaptation, especially in light of the generally poor reception of the end result.

Though i will say Kaneki joining Aogiri Tree was badass.

Even if the plot could have been better there would still persist incoherences like the whole "double operation" of the 11 ward and Cochlea in volume 8 (if Eto and Tatara planned to attack later why not defend your base? Its so stupid).
Even with that what killed the show for real was the characterization of the whole cast, specially Kaneki's silent emo feel.
