The same lukewarm hype that we had with season 1 of My Hero Academia? No, thanks.
They had to do things right this time.
Considering the boost it received it was anything but lukewarm. If anycase a Neverland anime at this point wouldn't have a good stopping point and they'll have to pad out the material a lot to fit 4 volumes into 12 episode with next to no action. I think we'll have to wait longer until we establish a groundwork for the series beyond the Escape arc to fit a 24 episode season where the first half ends with the escape and the second half deals with survival.

You are agreeing or disagreeing with me? XD
You know that considering the quality of the series and its initial popularity, it was destined to something much bigger than that, it would be better than we are seeing now with the second season.

About The Promised Neverland, that was what I said earlier.

We can't make that assumption though since the quality of an adaptation doesn't equal to the same reception. People expecting Naruto numbers out the gate were overzealous in their claims and its a good thing MHA wasn't treated the same way as Toriko or else people would have never let it down had it failed well now that it didn't its basically a lot of "it could have done better" with nothing really to back it because that could apply to anything really.

Now, about Cross Account, maybe it is difficult for people here to admit, but it was very relatable, at least for me... In a country where even normal Japanese people are immediately tagged as ****** (I saw and heard this with my eyes and ears), it is really hard to talk about manga and anime outside of the internet, so I relate to this aspect. It conveyed well this aspect, the refuge in social media, the social media friends and all that. People were saying that the main character's character design was bland and I laughed internally (I was reading at the bust, so... xD) when I read the chapter because it sounded to me that it was exactly the intention of the author, the character really wants to be normal and bland. XD
I was interesting how things turned out, the chapter wrapped up very well and for that reason I don't know what will happen next... The male protagonist seems to have his problems solved, but there is still the girl, that he loves and he didn't know he was talking precisely with her. It will be interesting when they meet and realize that, but how it will be, it is a mystery now. I'm looking forward to the next chapter.

Despite all that, I fear that the series will not have much success because it touches in the way of living of a lot of people who read Jump, who can see the manga as a criticism. Nothing take out of mind that Koisome Momiji had this fate because it touched in actress/idols purity and dating a guy and all that, things that many fans consider to be unforgivable, so when Koisome Momiji kind of criticized the idol world in many ways, it suffered in the hand of the readers.

Uh, isn't that obvious? Who else designs the characters but the author? Bland characters are just easy for self inserts.

A harem protagonist is never going to be relatable. Leaning into the blandness just makes the genre more off-putting.

While I think there's nothing wrong with being a nice guy as a defining character trait, It seems a lot of these hack writers seem to mistake passiveness for genuine kindness. Being genuinely nice takes effort, starting a relationship takes effort.

By making the protagonist absolutely passive and reactive in their own story, romance genre or otherwise, it raises the question why exactly should we care about this "nice" guy. When a relationship does start, people should not be questioning why someone fell in love with this passive schlub.

Making an effort involves making mistakes. While its not set in stone, shonen romance stories, especially recently, tend to have more bland, plain MCs. These MCs also have a tendency to be loners. Making a mistake will drive the MC into a corner lots of times. That means that more mistakes will possibly be made. Most people don't want to read a shonen manga where the MC is constantly messing up. They want something they can feel good reading and something that has cute girls.

I would argue that making mistakes and blunders can work pretty well in a romantic comedy if executed well and the protagonist doesn't necessarily need to be a loner if they are characterized properly. Though this is just my personal preference, I like rooting for heroes who try their damnedest even if they fail a lot. Especially if they are working towards a goal I can sympathize with whether it be getting the girl or just improving oneself.

If the protagonist is already a "too cool for school" badass who attracts girls by just standing in their general direction like in so many "battle harem" stories then my patience kinda wears thin.

I cannot even comment the series anymore? lol
Don't worry, I'm not the kind of guy that let the hype governs me.

What you guys didn't rant about "We Never Learn", you are ranting now. By the way, it kind of surprises me that "We Never Learn" is somewhat liked by people here. Like, did you guys forget that it is romance? The most hated genre? Be consistent. :derp
Well, I do think I was right on the money when I said that the otakus would identify themselves in the story and wouldn't like to see the truth. :teehee

It helps that Yuiga isn't a whiny passive self-insert character. He has his own goals and interests and choices. If you cut out the girls and anything harem related from WNL, you'd still have a decent shounen story about getting into college.
Didn't you understand the chapter at all? It was not the entire point of the chapter? His effort to change? He is not perfect right now, but it seems he improved a lot thanks to Poop Head (I LOLed the nicknames. xD), which is, in contrast an artist with a great success, but is not satisfied with hiding part of her personality. This contrast is interesting. Whine is to complain "the character is bland, and this and that" and loses the whole point of the thing. Try to interpret the story for a change. If the character was supposed to be perfect in the first chapter, it wouldn't have the story in the first place. How interesting it would be, a story about perfect characters that does everything perfectly. :notrust

To answer your question, I like we never learn, but i don't think it's good.

Cross Account just isn't good. It has similar concept to Real Account (popular on social media, nobody in the real world).

Again, it's in the wrong magazine. Still, hope the author finds success in Jump.

The point being made is that it wouldnt be difficult to do something with the Male lead to make him interesting and not bland, yet still not perfect. There's middle ground.

Raku from Niseki never had anything going for him either. At least Yuiga is smart. Gouda from Ore Monogatari is a perfect example of writing a romance with a Male lead that isn't just your bland 'nice guy with no other positives'. He's interesting and quirky, yet still far from perfect.

I think your just too used to seeing bland Male leads in romances that you don't expect anything different.
