But do you think the strangler would be stupid enough to let people suspect him ? I don't think so. I'm sure he acted when he was certain they won't be able to get to him, otherwise what's the point of doing it if he's gonna get caught...

Regardless of whether the royal guards know about nen or not, it makes sense to me they'll arrest all the people in Momoze's quarters since they would be all suspects. The crime was discovered early thx to Oito, that's why evidence that it was death by asphyxiation was still fresh, however if given enough time the assassin would erase all said evidences. How? well you've said yourself, by using nen. On top of that if the royal guards are unaware of the existence of nen, then it's even better.

Everybody knows it was made almost impossible for "normal" people to attempt murder on a prince, with all the measures taken. That's why I think all the assassins chosen can come up with unorthodox methods to do task and not get caught, and what better tools than supernatural powers which the majority ignore (i.e. nen).
So my point is that if an assassin made a move, they must have acted only when they could ensure they would be out of the suspect list.
It isn't stupid at all. The strangler knows he won't be killed for it until the war is over at least.
Imagine if it was Benjamin's soldier. When Benjamin gets king, he becomes free anyway,
I don't think there was a way to really do this without getting caught if it was one of the 6 guards with the way Kakin reacted.

Even if there was no evidence, what makes you think they wouldn't take all of them into custody? The 2 people sleeping at least had an alibi, it did not help them.
After all, the assassins, in their inner monologue, even wanted to make sure that they can prove to their corresponding bosses that it was them.
They WANT to leave evidence, which is probably one reason why it was so easy to conclude it must have been a clone user.

Being in custody is not a problem when there is no proof against them, because then they won't get killed off and get free when their boss wins the war.
If their boss does not win, they are probably in trouble anyway.

Of course what you say makes sense, but only if there was no evidence against him. That's why I'm believing that if the crime wasn't discovered prematuraly, the murderer would've had enough time to at least secure himself a stronger alibi (don't ask me how though, as there are many possibilities but they would all heavily rely on speculations ^^).

At least according to this page, I understood that getting caught was not an option. That's why I said it was a stupid move to just do it like that.

Even if there was no evidence, what makes you think they wouldn't take all of them into custody? The 2 people sleeping at least had an alibi, it did not help them.

I never said they wouldn't take them into custody.
If there was no evidence, they would be quickly released and all charges would drop against them. That's a huge advantage. Also they cannot leave behind an obvious hint; I'm sure that even if their master became king, he wouldn't be able to innocent somebody who committed murder against royalty. If he does, it could very well soil his image. And yes I know he can silence the affair, but there is no guarantee he would go that far. The assassin knows that if he is suspected, he and his family would be facing the death sentence. So he should be very careful.

Being in custody is not a problem when there is no proof against them, because then they won't get killed off and get free when their boss wins the war.
If their boss does not win, they are probably in trouble anyway.
Of course. Even now we don't know what are the exact charges against the 6 bodyguards. They could actually get released as far as we know.

But all in all, this still doesn't support the idea that Sevanchi would anticipate to get rid of them all in one go. Maybe temporarily, but not forever. Her bait was very obvious, so unless the assassin had a way to escape being suspected, he would've just layed low and waited for a better chance.

There was no evidence to erase in the first place, it has been done with Nen. Normal people can't solve anything. All the bodyguards are suspected because no one else entered and it was their job to protect her. The best thing to do after this would have been to kill a guard, report Momoze's murder and accuse the dead guard IMO. This or lying about a spy who ran away.

...Or making it look like the prince commited suicide. However it would be in the assassin's advantage to put the blame to another one somehow.

Btw @shionoro , your theory that Momoze's corpse was a fake could be true depending on the ability of the hunter Sevanchi sent to Kurapika (I believe his name is Vereleinte). If he has a hatsu similar to Korutopi, then he could've swapped Momoze's body with a fake on Sevanchi's instructions, all in order to lure in the other queens' bodyguards...That would make more sense IMO.
After our discussion above, I'm starting to see that Sevanchi's actions make no sense, unless she actually concocted the plan you spoke about and Momoze is in fact hiding...

Suicide would certainly be a possibility, but it seems like the guard in question didn't try that. He strangled her.

It would make sense to me too. If i am honest tho, i am basing a lot of this on 'narrative experience'.
Momoze said cryptic words about her brother and mother in her inner monologue without pay off.
Her beast exhausted her without real pay off (after all it just attacked one guard while other beasts have done more than that).
It was teased that she was in a very bad spot to begin with (usually in writing, you would go for some twist or surprise at least with an important event such as that).

For example, togashi could have showed a cute scene with momoze and the guards who made her food, which we genuinely, at first, believed to care for her. He could then subsequently have one of the execute her with an ability that would be hard to track back to him.
That would have shocked readers and if that happened, i had no trouble believing she is dead, because that would be an actual dramaturgic tool.

But the way she got offed is, while not out of question, rather strange and there would have been more dramatically worthwhile ways to off her.
Instead, togashi readily revealed long before her death that everyone was out to kill her and then...Just let it happen without even giving us a shred of hope or a scene with her before?

Okay i think i am done, i hope i didnt forget a bodyguard or maid.
That at least gives some kind of overview.
I grouped them after whose orders they follow, not who they are officially protecting, i hope that makes sense.

Will update the princes after the next chapter.

My thoughts exactly. And I would even dare to say that "strange" is a euphemism in this situation. I hope Togashi comes up with an explanation for Sevanchi's behavior, be it an irrational hatred for her daughter, a complex plan with the help of the hunter, or just that she is as bright as Alaska in December...anything is good...

Fortunately the arc is far from being over, so I'll refrain from any further comments or criticism on this for now.

I was never sure how to interpret this text:

The first part could mean that she thinks Marayam and her Mother do not have the capacity to rule, but Momoze is special.
Or it means Momoze pities them for having such a weak daughter/sister.

By now i am sure it is the second.
It would make sense if Momoze knows about the plan. Maybe sevanchi actually is a loving mother, but she knew what was coming and set it up like this.
Momoze is the bait to get rid of the spies.
Sevanchi definitely knew who they were. She was, one page earlier, explicitly mentioning exactly 6 bodyguards would be plenty for momoze.

And think about it: If Momoze is believed to be dead, there is no problem between her two kids. It must be horrible for amother (and any decent human being) to think about your two kids having to fight to the death.
But when momoze fakes her death, Marayam can become king without her dying.

Isn't it both? Most princes think they are the best to be king because of their education.

Regarding Sevanchi, if we assume that she really sacrificed Momoze I'd say it means that she made a choice. She clearly loves Marayam and Momoze doesn't appear to be a troublesome, I am sure she loved her, she was her first child after all. But she had to make a choice because of this unstoppable war and she chose the younger one.

It is not even very uncommon that mothers tend to favourite their young boys and neglect their older daughters.
That is why I feel Togashi did put some effort into nobody questioning that Sevanchi, in fact, abandoned Momoze.

It is not a decision i would question a lot, because, as you rightfully pointed out, she has to decide.
But then again, what if she does love both and thinks there might be a way she doesnt have to?

Oito had the first impulse to flee. If you have two children, even if one is your clear favourite to become king, wouldn't you try something similar?
However, leaving momoze with 6 spies is a death warrant.

As you pointed out, all Kakin children are raised with the ambition of being King.
If Momoze had that, it is strange that she just accepted being abandoned by the guards. She had the authority to at least keep her own personal close to herself, she could have insisted on Hanzo. But she didn't.
I can only, without a backup plan, interpret that as being ready to die out of selfdoubt and shame.

But if Momoze is such a girl who does not want to become king, she is no threat to marayam. She would be a person ready to flee the ship.
And what better way would their be than escaping her room in a body bag and submerging from the radar?

We didn't see any real interactions between Sevanchi and Momoze. If Secanchi in fact wanted to lure the other bodyguards in, then it makes sense that she presents them a legitimate reason why all of them are left with Momoze.

To be honest, to get an accurate interpretation I would check the viz translation together with the raws and then compare all of them and see what meaning I can infer. But right now my interpretation of that quote would be that she sees her mother and Marayam lacking the qualities to rule, and she pities them that they have to go through all this hussle.

I doubt Momoze was the kind of person to look down on herself to the point of pitiying others for being around her. She did not give off that vibe, at least to me. I would actually describe her as somebody who accepted the fact they are not wanted and/or cannot depend on others. And instead of crumbling down and lamenting she embraced her reality and decided to live with serenity, without any worries or negativeness. And more importantly she still values herself despite all the disdain or negligence she may receive from her mother.

At this point, either this whole family is just playing comedy fooling everyone into thinking Momoze died as you said (even though for me this plan should rely heavily on the abilities of the people under Sevanchi, if there are any), or that the queen just views her daughter as discardable luggage to the point that she would leave her with 6 spies and potential assassins.

All of them except for Tyoson, unless he is some kind of genius who learns it himself (might be specialist).

Tyson is female. I doubt all of them will learn Nen since some should die before they start learning it.

Anyone hoping 1 of the Princes hired 1 of Zeno/Silva/Illumi? If they have which Prince do you think hired them? My choice would be Camilla just something I think she would do.

Come on you know you want it. Joking aside I think it would be mistake if one of the Princes didn't hire them.

If Zoldycks were on the ship we would have seen them already I think. The powerful princes only chose people from their personal armies, the younger recruited more bodyguards among Hunters and Illumi is the only one besides Killua who has the license. Maybe Maha has one as well but I can't imagine him in this arc.

In my opinion this is just a glimpse of Tang Zhao Li (3rd queen)

After reading the viz translation. It's clear Momoze meant her mother and brother. She felt sorry for them because they were scared.

So, to give a short summary of the current state of events:

Benjamin: Uses his guards to spy on the other princes. Unlike with the other spies, his guards answer to him only, you cannot order them arround.
Benjamin also actively sent Furykov, someone who can see what kind of nen user others are, to the nentraining. Benjamin himself knows nen.

Camilla: She wants to kill Halkenburg and then Benjamin, and she uses her mother to kill Halkenburg (or at least wants to do so).
She sent noone to the Nentraining (or at least none is known, someone might be her mother's spy without the prince who sent him knowing).

Zheng Lei: Like Tubeppa, Zheng Lei contacted Kurapika and accepted to have every prince get the information about nen by Kurapika via the Nentraining. He also has two guards (one third by Duazul) to stand guard at Woble's.

Tserriednich: He has some plan for the banquet together with sale sale and sent two people to the Nentraining. He is also a genius at Nen and learns it at an insane pace. He has also plans to join forces with Tubeppa at the next banquet if they both survive until then.

Tubeppa: Like Zheng Lie, she contacted Kurapika and was fine with him conducting the nentraining.
She plans to join forces with Tserriednich at the Banquet if they both survive until then.

Tithon: Shows no real ambition to participate so far. Tithon didn't send any guard (at least not known, might be a spy by her mother) to the Nentraining.

Luzurus: Similar to Tithon.

Sale-Sale: He plans something with Tserriednich for the Banquet.

Halkenburg: He wanted to drop out, but then his Nenbeast did something to him and his guards, they all have a feather mark on their Hand.
He sent two guards to the nentraining.

Kacho: Kacho plans to save Fuugetsu but masks this behind an obnoxious shell.

Fuugetsu: Fuugetsu helps Kacho without being aware of Kacho's plans.

Momoze: Plays dead to strike from the shadows.

Marayam: Is protected by his mother. Due to his young age, he doesn't seem to realize how serious the situation is.

Woble: See Marayam.
