If it it was supossedly a short manga i think they would publish it on Jump SQ or another magazine, or maybe Fujimaki is really bad, mental problems or something like that.

Hikaru no Go had a cast change early on, Shoodan seems to be doing the same thing.
Not unheard of.

Wait what the hell? I just read the RxL chapter.
WHY THE HELL IS THERE A 3 YEAR TIME SKIP?

Edit: oh it seems like I'm late here. What is even going on, it was literally out of nowhere

That's interesting. 30 chapters in and Fujimaki hadn't really focused on many of the characters who weren't big shots which is weird really. Guess all the ones he did like Kazama ect will probably pop up again as pros. Skipping right to a pro arc in Shounen Jump is rare (has it even been done before?), so will be interesting to see as I doubt it's ending. Maybe there's only so far he thought he could take it as things were? I mean, Robo doing so well against Suzaku, one of the best players even if he was holding back, pretty much wrote himself into a corner. Eiai already played the strongest highschool team and did well, so...

Hikaru no Go dropped it's early cast early on when Hikaru switched to the Insei academy.

That's why I asked, haven't read Hikaru yet. I do think it'll allow for more depth in the long run, so could be exciting.

YoI prove that sport series outside school setting can be very sucesfull. YoI creators have problem with green light because some people believe pro sport fail;. Congratulation for author RxL for exploring new possibilities. I hope the series won't be canceled.

Shoodan seems dead.
How successful was Hikaro?

Idc enough to pull numbers up but it consistently ranked top 3-5 throughout its run and is one of Jumps highest sellers. Great damn manga to boot.

Yumi Hotta is a woman. I read somewhere that she had made some comic or whatever with her husband a few years ago.

There were tons of sports anime about professionals that were incredibly successful.

Examples and define incredibly successful.
Well Ippo has been about professional boxing for most of its run...
Giant Killing is pretty successful. Major, of course.

Not to be rude, but how are you not familiar with Ippo?
One of the longest running and most successful manga of any genre. Still running today even.

Fucking TOUCH the most culturally significant and popular piece of Japanese media ever was essentially about the main character training for the majors in the midst of a tragedy. Then you have Major which is only second to Golgo 13 as the longest running manga series of all time. One's Out. Captain FUCKING Tsubasa which is still running to this day while he's an adult in the big leagues. Seriously YOI was nowhere near the first popular sports anime about professionals.

Honestly, the motivation of the YoI characters in relation to the sports is so thin that everything seems just an excuse to show beautiful boys in collant spinning and dating. So, I don't think being or not being about pro make a difference.

The relationship between the two leads was fine but you're right in that it felt very superfluous for the rest of the cast. Its a story about love first and ice skating second.
