For comparison, Jojo only made $1,495,291 and while Gintama opened at $6 million.

Saiki with $ 1,704,686 and JoJo Part 4 (one of the best parts) with $ 1,495,291?

How strange.

I wonder if the film Saiki will continue like this and if it is going to have some boost for the manga.

with BnHA volume 17 moving away from its January release date, Neverland will be the biggest manga that Jump Comics will release that month, +1 year and already a poster boy

also Jump Plus manga that we thought were miniseries got numbers on them, however MIA which is a confirmed miniseries also got a number so this could be a mistake

I honestly believe half, or at least 1/4th, the reason why Jojo flopped was because the Japanese public might be fatigued with the overcasting of Yamazaki Kento as the MC. The guy is in almost every live-action movie based on a manga/LN. Just this year, he's in Jojo, Saiki and the upcoming Hyouka. Last year he was in Shigatsu, Okami Shojo, and Yokai Watch. He was also in Orange, Heroine Shikkaku and L-DK. This is all just in the past 2 years. Live action films are partially carried by their casts. People will go to watch a film if their favourite actor/actress is cast in it. In Jojo's case though, its massive but its still a cult hit, especially the parts outside of 3 and maybe 5. These fans are incredibly critical of these kinds of films and honestly, Jojo's production values were average at best, in my opinion. The stands may have been done decently but SHA was a complete letdown and looked like a toy. Araki said he was fine with the movie if Takashi Miike directed it but even then, fans are usually much more critical looking at the recent Death Note. Saiki was most probably carried a lot by its cast. The manga itself is at best a mid-level hit, though its pretty big as a gag manga.

The expectations, even if people try to keep them down, for OP's live action is going to be off the charts given how beloved the series is.

The JoJo live action flopped hard it was really apparent when they started posting a lot of clips on youtube.

I'm waiting on that Vento Aureo announcement. David Pro better do a split cour for this one, it's too hard to do it in all one go. It has some of my fav fights in the entire franchise

It’s odd, considering how low the manga sales are, and the anime didn’t do much better, you wouldn’t think the live action could even do that well. Hopefully it’s what the series needs to get out there some more.

The live action is carried by the actors. They got a decent amount of up and coming and established actors. Gintama also had a huge amount of popular actors with Gintoki being played by Oguri Shun, an incredibly popular A-lister in Japan and probably Asia in general. In terms of boost to volume sales, even Gintama didn't get anything big despite the film being one of the highest grossing films in Japan this year. Saiki, looking at Shoseki might not get too much but its also got that second season coming up next season. It might wok out that this live action and that anime give it the revitalization it needs to take off.

honestly, even if Saiki doesn't take off I wouldn't be mad

hell, even if the manga goes down and get axed I won't be upset

it lasted 24+ volumes, have 2 animes, a live action, 2 novels, 3ds game, mc is playable in Jump Stars

that's way more than most Jump manga get

it outlived, Naruto, Bleach, Reborn, Kuroku no Basket, Medaka box, Sket Dance, Beelzebub, AssClass, Toriko, Nisekoi, Kochikame

what more can you ask for?

it sucks that the manga will stay 100k seller for the rest of its life but, what can you do

Reading Magico and crying in the process because it is not serializing at this moment... It is what we need, it was so lovely with the right amount of action as well... Sigh... There are things worse in the magazine now and it is surviving...

Just finished catching up on Dr. Stone. It has been pretty fun to read since I was a chemistry tutor for 2 years. I'm really surprised they haven't shown what Endless Stamina and his not-yet girlfriend have been up to for so long. I really like what they're doing with establishing the science alliance, but I'm super curious about how they're doing.

@Mammo Saiki is definetly the gag manga with the most media products out there, as you mentioned.. It might no have sold as well as other JUMP gag properties but I'm almost sure it's probably the one with the most different adaptations (Like games, live action, anime, etc), BTW it's not a 100k seller, but more like a 200k seller per volume in average according to this video

@Leoat12 I never read it, but certain series that have sold way less than Magico have been allowed to continue, e.g. Magico had sold 308,000 with 8 volumes whilest Hinomaru Sumo sold 327,000 with 13 volumes source (ranks 98 and 97 respectively)
