Is Fire Punch ending naturally or was it rushed to a conclusion?
Fujimoto originally intended the series to be around 6 volumes and 3 parts iirc, so it’s actually been longer than he intended. But yeh, seems like itll be a natural end, everything is heading towards a climax in the next few chapters.

Mahou Shonen X oneshot was scanlated too, people really wanted to read this during the GFC

https://bato.to/reader#d729908571d10543
After seeing its colorpage, I was curious and wanted to read more.
Well, it's meh for me.
The protagonist is bland, and that witch lady is annoying and let me roll my eyes. I'm aware that the scenes with the other "members of the magic society" should awake interest into this world, but not only did it took the attention to the mother-son plot, but it also took away the tension about the faced crows & "underwearman". Changing the beginning with a flashback of the protagonist and his mother, and then mentioning in school the suspicious people, who are seen at night, without going in detail about underwearman would have been better. Because by then witch lady's alignment would be more in question.
And the whole exposition dump in the middle of the one shot was gruesome. Should've been cut and instead adding parts of it to the mother's letter, because I've liked the idea how it was used in the fight against the crow guy.
Also, didnt like the reaction of the protagonist to the revelation of his mother. I know it's in the Hero's Journey the "Refusal of the Call", but was definitley a frustrating one & could've been better handled.

Overall, not something really noteworthy. The protagonist was bland, bc he was forced from one scene to the next, making him uninteresting, the exposition wasnt well handled and overall too much here and there with the attention of the narrative. I kinda like the artstyle, but at this point, I wouldnt rly care if this gets an actual manga.

all of this year GFC oneshot were meh, except for Chou Kasoku Ningen Leo which sucked

From what I've seen Shonen X generated more discussions than the rest on the net, so I think it has a good shot of winning

2015 winner took 2 years to become a series
Toteku published on Aug 24, 2015
Poro published Feb 20, 2017

it have not been this long for 2016 winner
Tanaka Seiji was published on Sep 17, 2016

they ran ads for it during this year GFC, they have not forgot about it

also the author is pretty young and amateur, he was 17 when he made his first Jump oneshot in 2014 so Jump has no reason to rush and serialize him

I don't think BC will get an additional 50 episodes...That's too much.

Saguri-chan and Render are releasing the same day as BnHA, I see what you are trying to do there Shuiesha
It would be really cool if the author of BnHA could make a quick pic of each of these series before their first volume releases to help support those who help and guide him. His health hasn't been too great lately though, but anything would probably help generate some pre-release hype and promote sales.

Not sure if anyone knew, but Saguri-san's first chapter was recently translated: https://bato.to/reader#328c8b6f11341e0c
This is so good; the exact combination of everything I like! I saw a decent number of comments mentioning health death flags and "bucket list completion," but I don't think this is going to end up going in that direction. Also saw some remarks about some people not enjoying the changes to the male MC (from athletic to kind-of shut-in), but I don't mind the change. If anything, it gives him additional room to grow over the series as he becomes re-accustomed to a lifestyle he used to enjoy as a small child. And while this goes without saying, the color pages are glorious!

I think he will do some kind of promo for their volume releases, he did that for Pygmalion (which isn't even being published by Shueisha) and he still does it for Smash and Vigilante

he went back to doing twitter sketches this week after stopping for 2 months so here's to hoping he's actually doing better

Black Clover gets 5 DVD/Bluray volumes for 110€/130€ each and every volume contains approximately 10 episodes.
Ah, so this is where that 50 episodes rumor came from.

Lamech shouldn't have died, I liked his interactions with Noah & he would've been a fun regular character.

I kinda like the series so far though, hope it lasts long enough to find its footing.

Mahou Shounen X was cool too.

An interesting Comic essay was published on Jump + yesterday by Amami Yoshikazu, mangaka of Dead or Animation. Some interesting facts that came out of there included that:
  • According to one report, the top 30% of series are keeping the industry in the black. The remaining 70% of series are all in the red with the top 30% covering for the losses of the bottom 70%.
  • Including web manga, there are a few thousand series currently in serialization in Japan right now.
The most interesting bit was the talk with Oda however. Amami was Oda's assistant for 3 years prior to debuting. He supposedly had lots of things he wanted to ask Oda but couldn't during that time because he didn't want to take time away from Oda. He was invited in 2016 to Oda's Christmas party (Amami was supposedly homeless at this time after being cancelled). At the party he was able to eat lots of great food that were in the shape of food in the manga. He also was able to have a chat with Oda regarding manga, specifically "How do you draw an interesting manga". Oda's reply was "Draw something crazy/completely out there" (The phrase used is "「ヤバイの」を描くんですよ"). You draw something that so crazy that its just before the line when your editor will get mad at you. Oda says that since the sheer number of manga have increased, its important to first stand out. Compared to back in the past when there weren't as many manga, its not okay to just draw something that will get a "This is pretty interesting" type of response.

Oda then says, to stand out "You have to make people think, "This mangaka is crazy!!"" (The line is "「この作者ヤベエ!!」と思わせるんですよ!"). To make them think that, you do anything to have to. By acting cool and being embarrassed you can't draw anything that will make people feel that. You have to show other people something that's not been done before and make them think, "You'd go this far!!?". In other words, "Take off your pants!" (the phrase is "「パンツを脱ぐ」だ!!"). One of the other people there also listening says that when they did that, the editor turned it down. Amami also says he remembers a similar incident where, before he debuted, the name his editor had put forward at the editor serialization meeting was turned down. Amami asks why even though his editor said that the characters were "Strong/dense" (濃くって) and "it was interesting". His editor then says that it was turned down because of that reason. Apparently some manga how to books that Amami had read had told him that characters had to be "strong/stand on their own" and thus he thought as long as that passed it'd be fine.

When they tell this to Oda, how if its too crazy its "pulled out", and that "isn't making it really crazy but not getting "pulled out" contradict itelf". Oda then says, "You have to persuade the readers". The important thing is that its interesting. If you write something that's weird, it'll just be weird and not interesting. You have to make people think "This is good!!" about something that only you can write, something not in the mainstream yet, your own "fetish". You have to persuade the readers to think that's good and interesting. If you can do so, "It will definitely sell".

you know what will make this truly great? if these doodles serves as a memo for what Yoshikazu have learned from his past failures and what he will do differently in the future
and when this project ends he lunches the series where he practice what he learned in it and hopefully that series will be he the success he is looking for

I think people just want something familiar, Oda's comment seems like BLack Clover would have never passed the editors roundtable.

If Oda is to be believed, Toriko should have been way more popular. That series had some of the most batshit crazy stuff. >_>

Oda's advice is on how to definitely sell a lot. The editors are more concerned with series that have selling potential and is interesting. As long as the series meets these requirements then they'll probably serialize any series. Demon's Plan is a good example that probably met thee requirements, though the readers didn't think so. Kimetsu no Yaiba is a good example of Oda's advice. That's something that probably only Gotouge can write and its steadily growing in sales as well. I'm of the opinion that BC is too tame. Had Tabata been much more ambitious in his story in the beginning then the series would have definitely sold more at the beginning rather than waiting for an anime to boost you up. Its template like structure is almost the perfect environment to try all kinds of crazy developments but for the most part, it stuck to standard events. This is enough to get that "This is pretty interesting" response but its not enough in the current industry. As it is right now, BC is losing to "Regarding being reincarnated as a Slime", a Narou born LN and later manga adaptation in sales.
