I can't wait to see the response on here to Act-Age's first chapter lol. We've had several comparisons to other manga series mentioned around here, so it'll be interesting to see what it'll be most similar to. I'm hoping if it has to be compared to another series, it will resemble the shock that is WSM's Runway de Waratte. I'd love to see the acting process depicted in a similar manner.

It's pretty meh 1st chapter honestly. Those leakers were just raving about the art it seems. The art is nice, but it looks like something that you'll seee in jump SQ more than in WSJ (probably due to the exorcist premise). But man is it cheessy. I felt like I've already read this chapter before.

Yes, the character cast of Bozebeats is thus far much better than Shudan. If Shudan had removed its worst character, then it would be a tie.

While I don't feel its the best it had a better first impression than any series from last year if that makes sense. Shudan fells like there was a lot more heart in it but this feels more like a standard action manga if that's more your thing. It suffers from the Dr. Stone problem of too much shit happening at once with no room to breathe and take in the setting and characters. Its a manga that'll need a couple of chapters to get you settle in but I think its "cool" enough to make enough of an impression on readers to do well on the TOC.

One thing i can give the author is that the protagonist is not the one who solves the "conflict" in chapter 1. It's the other guy.

I swear that girl in the flashback better not show up in the next chapter

Although sometime it's a bad thing.

I also just realized something. The 'gadget' in Bozebeat is similar to the Kingsman movies lol.

Why I have a feeling bozebeats’ heroine will have a monster body with huge tits? That’s gonna trigger somebody.

We agree mostly on everything except FT but I can’t put it any better lol. It was good.

Pathetic.

Comparing a sports manga and an action manga(?) probably isn't the most fair thing to do all things considered because it's like asking which food is better cake or apples. I don't like comparing manga together in terms of which are better, mainly because I think one should only look at the series as it's own thing letting it stand on it's own or die by it's own doing, but looking at it objectively Shudan is the better series as far as first chapters are concerned since it laid out it's premise well and introduced you to all the "relevant" characters that you'd be seeing a lot of within the series and it gives you a clear tone that would be present throughout it's run as for Bozebeat it was kind of a mess in all the reasons I previously stated that made it, Shudan, the "better" series. Obviously one just started and the other has ended so it's possible things may change for Bozebeat in the future but as it stands right now objectively its neither good nor bad just one of those series that are just there.

I liked Bozebeats. It didn't blow me away at all, but it has potential. It was a good start. While I'm not crazy about the art style, the quality of the art is pretty good, and I thought the design of the evil spirit was quite cool.

I'm actually quite looking forward to Act-age since the premise has me intrigued. Hopefully that starts out well too.

Yeah, the evil spirit design caught me off guard. It honestly looked evil as hell, not just some anime dude with red eyes or some lazy shit like that.

My problem with the whole Gatling gun premise is that yeah it looks cool, but how do you expand on that? I assume Ryuudaiji is gonna be a recurring character, so there has to be some variety in combat. We didn't even see what the MC did to the airport spirit, it was just dealt with without a word. Hopefully the combat is expanded upon.

Well, Shudan got axed after 4 volumes so maybe it wasn't that good either or it was actually a great manga with a really unfortunate fate in the hectic WSJ. I only read the first chapter and I really liked it, but I put it aside in case it would get axed, which did happen, since you never know with WSJ and this manga always seemed in a bad position in terms of survival because of its nature, the odds were really against it sadly. If Shueisha really wanted a new soccer manga, maybe they should've put this one somewhere else.

Now that I think about it, I waited for about 30 chapters of Kimetsu no Yaiba to come out to be sure I wouldn't be devastated if it got axed after I really fell in love with it when it started out. I did the same with Neverland, but I only waited for about 13 chapters since the survival for it looked more than certain. I would've been devastated if any of these two had a short lived life in the magazine.

Do you think Shudan is worth reading all the way through even after it's unfortunate fate?

The conclusion is, don't get invested into something from WSJ unless it's survival is somewhat guaranteed or if it seems like it has a chance after 20-30 chapters are out. (If you really like that manga)

Anyway, I finally read Bozebeats.
Overall, I think this has potential, like I did sense when I looked over the raws. I think the art is pretty nice, I think the author is doing a pretty good job considering he's a rookie, so let's see if he can keep up and also improve, I like that he still uses cute pout faces and he also does a nice job at giving the characters cool expressions and making them look bad-ass in action scenes, though his action panels do need some more polish and overall his close-up shots of faces tend to have a decent amount of impact and leave an impression but not always.

I thought the whole raised by animals in nature idea to be really cool, it's a concept you don't see that often in manga, sure it's nothing we haven't heard before, but I feel like it's an easy way to give the mc some eccentric weird character traits right off the bat and it will also be a reason why he'll be really fit and strong. Or the author will completely waste this idea and shove it aside since the mc can talk and understands speech

The whole cellphone technology barcode thing and scene did kind of bother me, a lot, since technology used in questionable ways irks me in anime and manga, so hopefully we get the tech explained in this, I really need this to happen, I'm not asking for a detailed scientific explanation, but I need to know how this system works and how it merges with the spiritual aspect. Maybe I wouldn't care about this that much usually, but it seems like technologhy is going to be a really crucial part in the story. (edit: in case you're confused what I meant by the cellphone barcode thing, I meant the face tattoo moment I suppose)

I don't know how to feel about the end of the chapter, I feel like things can easily go downhill from here on out, I wish we would've seen more of the cool monk guy, but maybe we will in the future.

A lot things can go really wrong here, it can easily take a direction that I won't be that into. I came to the conclusion that I really probably like exorcist shounen manga more than I realized xD. I personally felt like this had more potential than Cross Account, Shudan, Golem Hearts and Full Drive, but I'm not going to say that I'm super invested into it yet and I feel like I can easily lose my interest in this.

Since I'm not invested into this too much, maybe I'll continue following it weekly, but I don't really feel like I have the drive to read more right now.

Just read Bozebeats. Art is stellar, but I feel like plot-wise it will be the same as the 1000 exorcist series that run into SQ.
We'll see.

Well, if I had to guess what the heroine would be like, I'd take a shot and guess her being a miko.

Bozebeats has great potential but composition needs lots of polish. The mangaka has good technical skill and each individual panel is fantastically done but in terms of the overall page, the flow is "awkward". This can improve with experience and editor assistance though. Also, I wish there were more smaller battles or a longer battle at the end with the monk.

Its still to early to make a call on the story as we don't have too much world-building yet. The jungle book elements are a nice touch though. I hope they're followed through on in upcoming chapters as the kid spent 6 years in the forest. Like everyone else has said, the SQ-vibes are strong. It feels like an SQ story crossed over. It will be interesting to see if it can lose these vibes.

Yeah, the monster in Bozebeat looked good. Especially the noose on his head was dark and creepy(and a nice callback to the one we saw at the beginning of the chapter)

Why I have a feeling bozebeats’ heroine will have a monster body with huge tits?.
Well, I hope so... in that regard I'm like Sharkbait, I guess.
ALL THE HOMO~!

Let's be fair, though I do not doubt that Sharkbait is Nr.1 Sasuke/Naruto shipper, there's no way that all the fanarts about them, were only made for him.
