Answering a question with another question is not a good sign.

It's not going through the same process. Gintama as a franchise has reached a massive milestone with it's successful live action and is one of the top selling anime WSJ titles. It also experienced a growth in franchise sales from 2016 to 2017, unlike Shokugeki which fell off the charts and declined for 2017 :cheez. Besides, Gintama has been going for 70+ volumes which is a huge feat especially for a comedy/battle shonen so ofc it's going to be placed on a much larger pedestal than a wannabe food manga which hasn't really evolved much since chapter 1.
Really? My point was that sales has nothing to do with quality or do you deny that Gintama is supposedly a good quality manga although its sales has been constantly decreasing? Also, there are mangas out there better than Shokugeki and Gintama combined and doesn't sell as much as them. I have been going here less because I started to not give a damn about sales and TOC for that matter as long as "We Never Learn" is safe. The other mangas I read are safe, including Shokugeki, so I really don't have any reason to monitor everything. In short, you should stop using sales as measure for quality because it was, is and will always be a huge mistake.

It never was brilliant in the first place. The MC is threading a fine line between a Gary Stu/Invincible Boring Hero from the start.

Shokugeki no Soma quality is boo boo for the last year.

But Shokugeki no Soma is my baby, and you don't abandon your baby no matter how shit they become. Discover it and AssClass back in 2012 since chapter 1.

A manga about cooking and food and people stripping everytime they eat something. Without the stripping it wouldn't have survived.
Which is what they plan to do if the cooking didn't catch on (interview). You could say that the stripping help for its first year but by the 2nd year it focused on more cooking and the Autumn Election arc.

Suppose Soma was "healthy" enough in the rankings to take some risks, where would you like to see the story go?

^Pretty much this.

Take on Cutthroat Kitchen's format, for one. (Which is what Tsukuda should've done with the Azami saga....)

I'd like to see them get stronger from eating and it to turn into an action series.
Some Judge did actually. He went from skinny to muscular :cheez.

Ya'll can argue about the quality of SnS but more than anything to me, its impressive that a manga about cooking and food survived and did well in WSJ.
Not really. I truly do think that the fan-service/pretty art did push it a lot. If you remove that I seriously doubt it would've been going as long (have Tsukuda write/draw). There's nothing interesting with these shokugeki and they're often times predictable. Nothing has really changed to them, victories boil down sometimes to who presents their dish last.

There are high moments but IMO it went on for too long. It should've been a 15-20 volume series. There's so many collaborative efforts (i.e Saeki/famous chefs) that it's hard to find the series impressive. I would've definitely said this was impressive had it been done by one man and spent the time/effort to research.

Honestly I just want it to have a world tournament arc then end after that.

That's too ridiculous/over the top for Soma. It only works with Toriko.

why? Sunday had Yakitate!! Japan, WSM had Chuuka Ichiban, Champion had Tetsunabe no Jan

so cooking as a subject clearly have an audience within the shonen demographic

WSJ itself had a long running cooking manga long before SnS

wow, I didn't expect Golem Heart to do this horribly, I expected Full Drive and Tomatoy would do better but not by this margin

Dude, those bad sales of Golem Hearts really surprised me. I thought Fulldrive was going to be in that situation, crazy.
Apparently Tomatoypoo may appear on the Oricon with good sales.

God damn it. The Shounen audience is being conditioned to not enjoy battle or adventure manga....
