This anime speculation for Kimetsu really needs to be held back for a bit. Sure it seems like an anime is all but confirmed but I can't go 2-3 pages without another "which studio will produce Kimetsu" discussion.
An anime adaptation for any series is a big deal. WSJ isn't some special tower for anime producers. Most WSJ anime don't even do well in BDs and rake in revenue through merchandise, manga and games. Its a fact that BD sales are still an important source of revenue for producers especially the disc makers which usually tend to be on top of the committee. OP. DB, Naruto and the like should be excluded due to the fact that they're systems are set up differently and are household names. BDs are an irreplaceable source of revenue for current anime, even for something like BC, a daytime series which most probably will not sell well.
Kimetsu has had great growth in volume sales but let's look at it objectively;
**圏外 (3)│------│------│------│------┃*,**,圏外 (**3)┃2016/06|鬼滅の刃 1 ※初動16,966以下

This is the latest in volume sales in the Top 50 weekly oricon. The actual amount as of today will be greater but we don't have that number. Now consider:
That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime 6 16,008
288,164
Slime is a manga that's serialized in Shonen Sirius, a monthly magazine that has a print run of less than 10k. Considering these circumstances, I can argue that Slime is a bigger hit than Kimetsu because its visibility is so much lower. You can say that we shouldn't compare outside of WSJ but anime producers don't look at series that way. They look at each individual series and assess how much potential said series has and how to make the most profit off of it. To anime producers, Kimetsu will be more visible due to it being in Jump but both are just a viable for an adaptation. Both can blow up given the right circumstances and an anime adaptation.
