@Leoat12 And in the case of Soma, is what? You said that the arc is terrific, without flaws, but the position says otherwise. It's even below, wait, MHA. XD

Are you trying to make me fall into a trap? I prevented it on my very first post about this: "I, personally, know very well why.". It was my personal opinion, if the Japanese readers think the same way, I don't know, but it looks like they are not enjoying it as much as before. If they are not enjoying Shokugeki no Soma, that's too bad, I'm worried about the series because I'm enjoying and it can make the series shorten.

Ah, no big deal then, it's only 215 million copies behind.

And regarding Robo.
Little do you know, RxL has already established itself as the next big Fujo sports series, it doesn't need good TOC placements, it's basically Kuroko 2.0.
I think it's kind of obvious that the editors are going to keep it that way just like Kuroko did and just wait for the anime to boost it.

You do realize that we have hundreds of TOCs proving that top series are successful and bottom series are canceled and that despite having some pushing now and then, most part of the TOC is faithful to what readers think it is good, successful series never get too far from the top and it is rare a bad series getting good rankings all of a sudden.
Gintama has been a bottom dweller for more than half of its 14 year run and never been on the verge of cancellation and hell series like Jaguar lasted for 10 years and was always at the bottom of the magazine. TOC is only as relevant as you want it to be but pushing it as a do or die indication of quality is just wrong.

It is possible to have good rankings despite bad sales, we've seen this with many series here and the most remarkable one is Hinomaru Zumou,
Zumou has never had good rankings or sales unfortunately. People have been saying for years that its only being kept alive due to editorial interference but the series has never grown beyond the 30k club. The anime will probably be the final gambit to see if it survives.

We will see what happens with Dr. Stone, maybe they are pushing it or it is just getting good rankings without selling well, if it is the first case, editors will come back to reason pretty soon and throw it to the beasts. Let's see...
Its been pretty obvious what they're doing with Stone since it started between the AmeTalk appearance, being caught using bots to inflate the PV views on their YouTube page and the fact that the cola chapter ranked higher than a chapter of Heroaca that trended on twitter. They're not doing a good job hiding their tracks.

Eh, the TOC has been a mess since the new EiC took over, I wouldnt think about it too hard. Obviously there was always a presence of Pushing, but its gotten way worse. You used to be able to tell what chapter gave a series a high ranking because it was a particularly good one, and vice-versa for a bad one, but it hasn’t been reflective of that for a while. Now it’s just OP in first, Push in top 5, To be Cancelled in bottom 3-5, and everything else floats with no particular significance.

At this point WSJ isn't promoting One Piece, One Piece is promoting WSJ.
Truer words have not been spoken. If it weren't for One Piece, the magazine sales would be at a new low.

And in the other half Gintama has been an iconic series for the Japanese readers and it has been right above the bottom most of the time, not inside the bottom. I, personally, think that Gintama should have ended a long time ago, but it has its privilegies due to its past success. Jaguar was put in the bottom on purpose, like Tomatoypoo no Lycopene.

Okay, let's see...

Once One Piece ends i'll probably stop reading manga altogether.

That's too extreme. There are a lot of great mangas out there. One Piece ending will not be the end of the world for the readers, not to mention Shueisha will make sure to milk it for more time than Dragon Ball, so new content will not be a problem, although the quality will not be guaranteed. XD

I really hope that doesn't happen. I guess we'll find out in 20 years.

Me too, but that's because I'll already be 80 years old and have astigmatism.

Yep. I feel that there was a pattern.

Big 3 made the landscape and so it would make sense it’ll die off interest once the era is over. I honestly probably will be done with manga in general too. Anime I look at it more towards being a cartoon or a weekly drama like CSI that you plan to watch so I’ll still watch specific stuff.

Nakano overall seems almost incompetent. He repeated mentioned in interviews that even though digital subscriptions are increasing he wants to increase physical print numbers. Print numbers will never rise again. Torishima even mentions that he realized this back when he became the EiC after Jump hit its peak of 6.53 million copies in a recent interview. He even says he felt a doubt as to what the point of increasing print numbers was. He felt it was more profitable to focus in increasing revenue from Tankoubon sales and and the merchandise sales and what not that come in from anime adaptations. He mentions that Yugioh was such a hit. Its better to focus on the combined revenue. I feel that he's basically trying to bring Jump up to the current generation while also trying to keep the old ways and in the process, stuff like the TOC gets messed up. He even says that since he grew up with the print version he wants to focus on that print version and increase sales while at the same time, he wants to do digital as well. It just feels disjointed and all over the place.

It's crazy to think what a mega franchise Yu-Gi-Oh became in the long run, what a score for WSJ.

Not for me. I started reading manga 9 years ago and at that time there were many WSJ manga which interested me, but except for One Piece all of them are done and gone. And the only "new" manga which i liked from the first chapter and still like is My Hero Academia. The problem with the other newer ones is that they aren't what i look for in WSJ manga, super powered battle shonen.
There are just 4 of these manga left in the magazine which won't go anywhere anytime soon: One Piece, My Hero Academia, Black Clover and Kimetsu no Yaiba. I already said i like One Piece and My Hero Academia, i still read Black Clover but just because there isn't anything else to read, and my enjoyment of Kimetsu no Yaiba took a big dip with the current arc. I doubt there will be any other such manga left to read which i will like as much as One Piece after One Piece is finished, so why continue reading manga? To read the axed manga with less than 20 chapters in the hope that every 4 or 5 years another one i could like appears which doesn't get axed?
And if Shueisha plans a One Piece GT or Super after the manga is finished then i should really stop with anime and manga. What they did to Dragon Ball with Super is fanfic at this point. To imagine that 20 year old drawings of Super Saiyan 5 are as good as canon now makes me fear how the 12 year old drawings of Luffy's Gear 4 could become canon in One Piece Super.
