That was one of the best period based animes, the characters were voiced perfectly and the suspense was amazing. I cant imagine the manga even being as gram of as good as the anime was, especially since these types of stories are extremely difficult to follow in manga. Still praying for an s3, in s1 animation style. Shin was the best and he sounded like Ichigo Kurosaki, heart.
I've read the manga and seen the anime. S1 was just so bad in terms of animation. The fights were so rigid even tho it followed the story well. S2 was way better but still overuse of CGI didn't do justice to the actual manga. The manga is far superior, no absolute doubts about that. The manga art is so unique and is so well done in many ways.

But yes, I completely agree. Shin as a character is very similar to early Ichigo (until SS arc). Maybe that's a reason why I love Kingdom but the adrenaline does not stop in Kingdom unlike how it went down in Bleach. So yeah, again, for those who want to expand and try other manga and have not tried kingdom; go for it.

Also, my profile picture is of shin from kingdom.

Cannot have some fun around here. That's why we are like this, people get personal because of a manga series! Are we kindergarten? XD

Anyway, substitute One Piece for Kingdom is the wrong point of view in my opinion. You cannot substitute one series for the other, you have to find new things to read with their own characteristics. One Piece is my favorite battle shounen, but when I want something more fast paced, I turn to other series, some pretty much unknown, which are also very good. It is just a matter of thinking outside the box and explore the market. It helps if you know Japanese.

Or just be like me and read complete older Jump series. :hi

Finished Toriko -> reading Kimagure Orange Road -> PTR Ninku and Dragonquest.

Orange Road is what Romance manga should be. Now i understand why the 80's Jump is filled with gems.

Didn't say substitute at all. I clearly said, if people want to expand outside the magazine.

Orange Road is what they're trying to be like. I can argue that Nisekoi and probably lots of modern rom-coms are watered down Orange road and Maison Ikkoku and maybe Tenchi. They just ramp up the indecisiveness a few notches. All the tropes in modern rom-coms and romance stories are derived from those series.

Just dont be that guy who thinks he's reading something good because it's dark and/or aimed at an older audience. (i.e series like Tokyo Ghoul/Berserk)

If you dont do that then who cares what you read. Me personally, I've been wanting to get caught up with Cardcaptor Sakura (clear card hen arc). I'm also reading Takeshi which I would say is a hidden gem and been having fun reading the few chapters that are currently translated.

Maybe Gantz fits this description, but Berserk? Berserk is quintessential dark fantasy bruh. /stopsbeingofftopic

Well Orange Road and Nisekoi has the "this entire story could be solved in the first volume but we have to pad it out beyond 10 volumes" premise down with a love triangle that's not really one since one side is clearly going to be the winner (though at least Nisekoi didn't dedicate a movie shitting on the loser). 80's romcoms always seem to put more into its characters than a lot of modern ones which just fill up the cast with archetypes to appeal to a different niche audience, Madoka was the star of Orange Road for a reason she was a very memorable character and one of the best Jump heroines of all time but it feels unfair that her character was so much better than the rest of the cast who just fall into popular archetypes of the time period (The MC is an esper because they were a thing in the 80's in Japan but uses his powers less and less as the story goes on).

I"s is an pretty great romcom and with how WNL is, I would say it's going to be one of the best too (and one of my favorites).

I need to read some of the most older too in the 80s. I just completed Ranma 1/2 from Sunday which is big as fuck.

After watching Super Eyepatch Wolf's latest video about Dragonball, and being reminded how influential it was on popculture and Shounen manga in general, what had the the Big 3 managed to influence in Shounen?
(Don't even need to be the Big 3, maybe just One Piece and/or Naruto, if it's better to define. I'm just legimately curious what the newer influences on Shounen Manga are.)

I don't trust that Super Eyepatch guy after his garbage video on the current state of WSJ. He gives off the impression that he knows stuff, but it's questionable just how much he knows.

I think we can see the influence of the Big 3 today with all the failed serializations in WSJ. (the battle shounens from young rookies or first timers)

If I had to say, Naruto definitely had a bigger impact. I'm probably biased but when you think about it, Naruto was rather ambitious at the time. But eventually, it fell flat. I still give Kishi credit for trying, though. I would say that Naruto's influence is rather easy to see in MHA. It sometimes feels like an examination of what and where Naruto went wrong. Just my 2 cents though

The #1 rule of thumb is to never trust youtubers. Untrustworthy, inaccurate, half truths and lies, fake news, and inciteful opinions to get a rise out of folks, any platform with monetization is prone to such biases. Look at all the bad chapter review rants.

I think naruto has been impactful. Sasuke is an example character that has bern replicated often (bakugou is the poor mans sasuke) and sasuke continues to be the framework for rivals..the theme of someone becoming something from norhing or having a huge disability like naruto has often been repeated too.

BLeach inspired the exorcist uprising leading to the holy trinity (owari no serafu BLue Exorcist Twin Star) and the Aizan type antagonist and also Aizan suddenly appearing behind the fighter seems to still be replicated to this day (see BC for a tribute to kubo)

Sasuke is just a Rukawa taken too seriously.
Bakugou is more like Vegeta.

Anyway:
Naruto: structure
One Piece: character design
Bleach: I don't know, the shinigamis that Kubo created are a pop version of samurai, but Aizen will always be remembered as the Keikaku Master.

Bakugou shows more growth in the last 170 chapters of MHA than Sasuke showed for 600 chapters in Naruto. So I wouldn't say that.
Naruto's impact is more about how it helped sustain the popularity of anime and manga in the west rather than a direct cultural impact in the west. In Japan, of course Naruto would be the series that inspired so many out there to become a mangaka. Many authors mentioned how big Naruto was to them personally, especially when it ended.

One Piece's world building is unrivaled. Many have tried but Oda just has a knack and creativity to keep worlds very exciting and adventurous. The most obvious inspiration is Toriko. This may be presumptuous but we will never see another series like One Piece.

Bleach was more about the stylistic action and if anything showed how far a series can go just on pure adrenaline and action. I'd say so many series tried to use this approach with the "cool and hot headed" MC who talks about protecting people and striking cool poses after each strike. But to be honest, early bleach was so much more than that. What most seem to miss is how big the friendship between Rukia and Ichigo was. Bleach got more famous for its action from the arrancar arc onwards and people seemed to have forgotten what made Bleach amazing in the early arcs.
If you see the author comments when Bleach ended, some of the authors even mentioned how they admired Bleach's visual style and action and it's "cool" factor.

Bolded.

Naruto did pretty well in giving its characters more depth by delving into their background. Prior to it, no other shonen has attempted to do that, with the exception of Kenshin. Problem is, Kishi went too far with Sasuke's story that it eventually wasn't Naruto's story anymore, but Sasuke's.

My favourite quote in Bleach will always be how Ichigo can fully admit that he's not an omniscient (although he might be pretty close), but he will try and save as much as he can as long he is able to.

On the note of Bleach's artistic style, I am definitely waiting for someone to try and emulate its style. That'd be interesting, for sure.
