The Fellowship enjoyed the sunlight after a good day. They got back the One Ring, and then focused in their second higher suspect: Galadriel
They had enough clues so they proceeded with the lynch fast.

I'm not confused about the plan per se, but I think full disclosure will be better

Well, let's do it the other way then, since that's fully allowed with no penalties: I didn't have nor have the One Ring.
An elimination process also works until we get the person's reveal (or if we don't).

-Day 1 a townie started with the One Ring.

If that townie used it, mafia already know someone did use it. If he didn't use it but passed it away to someone instead, the by far best course of action is as follows:
-That person comes out and says he had the ring last day.
-Now we have a confirmed townie. If he doesn't die this night, that means whoever he gave it to is also a townie. So 2 confirmed townies.
-This is the bare minimum we can safely find out. We can stop there, and have that 2nd person or a 3rd guy use it to protect himself or do whatever, or we continue chaining this for longer(eventually the number of penalties will make this impossible, among other risks, so better stop at some point).

This all doesn't work if that townie used the ring to protect himself last night though. And if that townie did that, it's honestly a mistake I feel, since you definitely have to give it away this night or go deeper down the hole of penalties and info mafia find out about you. And now the chance of being killed is statistically bigger with less players.

There kinda is though. If we all say we didn't have it except the guy who had it, but who didn't pass it away and used it instead... And he can't bluff that he had it and gave it away, because the boss got alerted in some way.

So all you get from your plan is everyone saying no, or that guy coming out and being in trouble hard.

well saying something about the others could be worth it, especially if you consider death if you pass to mafia..so say x had the one ring and decided to pass to y, I'm not quite sure of the timeline but possible he could die in the night phase without getting to reveal who he passed the ring to, and mafia would have the ring, be able to pass it to the LoTR and we'd only find out when it's too late and there's already a disconnect in how the ring went round

But if you reveal whom you just gave the ring to or whom you intend to pass it to, that player will 100% be killed by the mafia, which I'm assuming has a Strongman to have a one-shot chance at taking the ring if they find out who has it.

I'm confused by how you keep mentioning penalties when there shouldn't be any in that plan. Saying you had the Ring does not give you penalties if you don't have it anymore, does it?

Okay, before I go crazy:

That clause is for players that were Ring Bearers but they are not anymore. Previous bearers dont have their identities revealed.
They can say they had the ring, but they cannot reveal who did they pass it to.

Well... they can... but that massive penalty will fall on the infractor.

So @GrySun's plan should be fine as long as it's simply about every bearer coming out once they have passed the ring, but not saying whom they gave it to or anything else.

But Gry's plan includes the first bearer indeed revealing who they passed it to, hence the penalties. If that first person doesn't die next night from passing the ring, the player they passed it to is Town and thus two confirmed Townies.

Maybe I'm missing the point of what your problem is but to me Gry's plan makes sense.

For myself I don't like this plan, it sounds that it will make it easier for the mafia to finding the ring!! let the previous RBs say they're the previous bearers without saying who they gave it to!!

Maybe I'm missing the point of what your problem is but to me Gry's plan makes sense.

The problem is that there's no point in tanking the penalties and you risk revealing who is currently holding the ring if they didn't pass it for some reason. And since it still requires the bearers to wait a day before revealing their target (I assume, since it would be painting a target on that player's back otherwise), said bearers would still die before revealing if they happened to pass it to a mafia.

To summarize with an example:

Day One - the Ring Bearer 1 doesn't say anything, passes to ring to RB2
Day Two - RB1 says they had the ring, not whom they passed it to; RB2 passes the ring to RB3
Day Three - Three things can happen:

1) RB1 says they passed it to RB2; either RB2 confirms and RB1 gets penalties for no reason or RB2 used the ring, mafia knows they did because they get some kind of alert and RB2 is a dead man (Gry's plan?);
2) RB2 confirms they had the ring and no one gets any penalty;
3) RB1 has actually died during Night Two because RB2 was mafia and we still learn nothing.

So correct me if I'm wrong, but there's no point in doing option 1 when option 2 works even better.

The initial ring bearer doesn't have to cop a penalty. If the person they passed it to is a townie also passes it on the day they received it (D2), and said they received in the following day (D3), then the initial bearer won't have to say anything D3.

I don't see how constantly discussing the same is going to get us any further. In the end, people have to decide for themselves to get involved in that plan or not.

A hint for today about my role:
- I haven't had it before
- I can only use it at night

Who do you guys suspect at the moment and why? I'm curious. Not sure yet myself about possible suspects, if I'm real honest.
