So why they even bother to pick battle shounen as finalists? Just to make people believe that they are not biased?

Beastars and To You, The Immortal are really great.
Both better than anything in Jump rn.
Nah. The first chapter of To You was really great, but the rest turned just Suffering Fest. The author made it clear that she only has one writing formula. I need to read Beastars.

The Tezuka Cultural Prize is legit; it's just probably never going to a Shonen Jump series. It was explained a while back that they mostly pick stuff with cultural value such as biographies or historical dramas.
Hikaru no Go won one of the prizes I believe. And Jump itself won one time.

Two interesting tweets appeared on my timeline regarding digital x paper sales.

The second seems more legit than ever. Digital sales is going pretty well it seems.

Are the big titles not also available in digital form? Not sure how lack of big hits equals decline in print sales while at the same time an increase in digital sales.

Wtf.

Bleach still giving him money.
Not really a surprise. He most definitely has more than enough money to retire.

Like...look at Oda, he's out here willing to take of his editor's family expenses if something happens to them

Oda's net worth is on a different league though. Plus Kubo deserves as long as a break he wants, 15 years of being serialized in a weekly magazine is hell

Yes i know Eiji is model after Oda

the artist for Act Age is Sara (Juhan Shutaii) IRL. pixiv artist turns mangaka.

Eiji got nothing on Rohan though. :cheez

He's the true mangaka god and/or god of work ethics...part 6 ending spoiler ahead
Time is accelerating at an unbelievable rate and he's still meeting deadlines.

Araki is another freak too. I posted his hiatus chart and given all the stress that comes in with being a mangaka, he hasn't aged much and looks really good/handsome/sexy. That tokyo tap water is something else :super

Now if only we got digital numbers. I hope we won't always be in the dark when it comes to that.

I think it is much easier to buy and experiment unknown series in digital. I discovered a lot of good mangas that way. There are probably a lot of new and relatively unknown manga out there that are probably surprisingly popular in digital, we just don't know yet. As for the big hits, the big hits are things like Naruto, Bleach and stuff, which obviously started in an era where digital editions didn't exist. I also think their conclusion is inaccurate, people are finishing their collection of that big hits, which they started a long time ago and now it wouldn't make sense turn to digital editions, they look at their cramped shelf and start to think that digital edition is not a bad idea for their following purchases. XD
The big hits will not be replaced because people will have this idea, it will only decrease if you ask me.

Viz will (obviously) run Jujutsu Kaisen as a Jump Start next week, although their next issue promo image is just of Blue Exorcist, so no new series images from them sadly. They said 'get ready for another round of jump starts' so I imagine they'll do all three.

So apparently Kubo said he's taking a 15 year break before starting a new series in this interview.

Wow, Kubo looks so different now, even from last year. Probably the hair and the glasses.
I'd be surprised if he ever came back to weekly serialization. He'd probably do one-shots every now and then.
