I just tried searching it right now and found both of them already complete in Manga Zip. After months of searching with no results, now I found them in 5 seconds lol. Time for some Play Ball greatness for me.

Otoko Ippiki raws are available searching the japanese title (男一匹ガキ大将) + raw. I ''read'' the entire manga six months ago, only to not understand anything, and after some praising, Hokuto no Gun started releasing it the following week lol
Speak of the devil. I also got another obscure manga Dokushin Apartment from them three months ago that was JUST uploaded by them recently and they had the 2001 Cutey Honey manga there as well. Those guys are just always convenient when you least expect it.

PD2: I'm also very interested in Samurai Giants. First thing I thought when I saw mc was called Banba was to think in Ole Golazo
Yeah the MC is really awesome.

The thing about 70s manga in general is that mangaka were much more crazy, relatively speaking, back then. The mangaka of Gaki Taisho even mentions in that recent NHK special how he's surprised that manga was run. Nowadays, readers will thoroughly read series but back then, it was largely for kids so entertainment was given first priority. I tried Kinnikuman from the beginning but stuff began not making sense. Cobra was quite interesting though, there were also other reasons why:cheez. This was something I saw up till the 90s. Sakigake for example didn't give a damn about a coherent plot in the beginning. Still, the amount of heat in those series is undeniable so I'll probably get back to them soon. Harenchi Gakuen is the one series I cannot find no matter how I try. I found other versions of Harenchi Gakuen but the original is an mythical pokemon.

I once skimmed through the final chapter of Kochikame, so I guess you could say I'm sort of a Jump connoisseur.
You're not a connoisseur unless you read all 200 volumes, original print, with no google translate.:derp

Still, the first big commercial HIT was Kinnikuman, wasn't it?

Kinnikuman is one of two manga which I've seen had like 50-60 chapters of humor-gag, then radically transformed into a full action manga. Other one is Hitman Reborn.

Kinnikuman is just dumb fun. You can just tell the mangaka were just having a blast working on it and were just making shit up as they go along. It was the first Jump manga that utilized the reader input system to full effect and it shows. Nisei and the recent revamp of the series just don't have the same appeal because it fells like they're actually trying given how big the brand name is now. Cobra along with City Hunter and BASTARD!!! are titles that make me think..."how the hell was this for kids?" when thinking how people who first read it reacted to it but that was the 80s. And yeah Harenchi Gakuen is some crazy shit, I think the entire war against the PTA volume traumatized me when I first read it in highschool, I'm hoping it'll get another anime adaptation down the line from the same people who did Osomatsu-san just to see the reactions to it.

I won't deny that Kinnikuman is crazy. Yudetamago explicitly mentions how the reader results and other series' plots in the magazine affected when they'd use certain big plot points. It would be fatal for a series today but I think that's the trade off. Today, if you tried something like this, you would get bashed without end of the internet as being stupid and readers in general wouldn't read it unless you really work some voodoo like magic. However, you would have an identity whereas today, stuff is well done but lacks, or takes while to get that identity.

And it speaks loud and clear how today a series like Assassination Classroom felt so limp in execution despite having such and outlandish concept. You can almost tell that Matsui had to go back and forth with his editor on what was deemed appropriate or not which gutted the manga considerably.

:emocat Here we are talking about before 1980 series when post 1980 have tons of stuffs incomplete. Muh City Hunter :emocat.

:cookiestare Does Dr Slump count? It was published Feb 1980. I have all 18 vols just haven't finished them.

Harenchi Gakuen could be pick up by Seven Seas down the line, as they are doing pretty okay with Shuiesha ecchi titles and they pick up some classic stuffs a while back.

What're the chances of Viz transferring over Jigokuraku from their free section on their site to their magazine?
Probably won't happen since it's an 18+ manga.

Ey, one question. Does anyone know or understand Danny's Radio plot? Looked to me a strange oneshot protagonized by mexicans.

Who knows, maybe Danny's Radio gets serialized next year or in 2020.

Wait, is this a Taisho Wotome Otogibanashi sequel?! Please let this be what I think it is!
It's not explicitly a sequel, but pretty much yeah. New main character, and the title changes to Showa Otome Otogibanashi so it'll take place a few years after Taisho.

Although that slightly dampers the hype, I'm still super excited. The author can really make some killer characters, good romance, and excellent artwork. I hope one of his series gets an anime adaptation one day, no matter how slim the chances definitely are. I remember seeing some poll a handful of months back where Taisho Wotome ranked in 5th or 6th out of over 100 series for what people want to see get animated

Fun curiosity: how many Jump manga titles which started before 1980 have you read?

For making things easier:
-You can count a bunch of chapters. For example, if you have read Otoko Ippiki first 3 chapters you can say it.
-Kinnikuman counts.
None so far but Mazinger Z is on my list

The opposite has happened to me. I found very easily Otoko Ippiki (and Astro Kyudan) raws, but I didn't find any raws of Harenchi Gakuen or Play Ball.

For me is:
-Otoko Ippiki Gaki Daisho
-Mazinger Z
-Astro Kyudan (raws)
-Ring ni Kakero
-Kinnikuman
-Kochikame
-Koya no Shonen Isamu (anime) (also, some manga raws chapters. Art is AWESOME).
-Dokonjo Gaeru (anime)
Some stuff can be found on the Jump book store. Like Play Ball is easily obtainable that way. Though many also aren’t like Harenchi and Astro Kyudan.

I actually don’t think I’ve even read anything pre 1990 apart from Dragon Ball which I’m reading currently, unless you want to count Jojo, which I technically only watched so... Been meaning to for years and actually have a list of stuff I want to check out, but never had to time to actually do so :/.

That's kind of sad.
They're actually reducing Bleach's theatre listings and reducing theatre size for Bleach despite it only being the 3rd week. I don't think anybody at Warner expected this.

In regards to series before the 80s, I've put some sports series on my list like Circuit no Okami but I've yet to find them. I've grown apathetic to baseball and boxing.

just stop translating Hinomaru, problem solved :3c.

Pre 1990 series is either a hit or miss even whether it's the art-style or the plot for me.

Don’t tempt me :3c. Although with these recent developments I couldn’t pull myself away even if I wanted :D. Latest chapter is on fire .
