Just a matter of time before current BnHA beat current Haikyuu. The anime ended almost 2 years ago and Haikyuu currently passed its peak. Whether MHA beats Haikyuu's peak is a different story.

That One Piece Number is quite low, isn't it usually do 3M by now?

Shokugeki to me it will go on for another year, maximum two ... and there would be many for a manga like that.

i dont understand comparing something at volume 30+ to sales of something at vol18 and popping the champagne and sparkling cedar when a vol 18 beats a volume 30+, both are different periods in their lifetime, and its yet to be seen if heroaca can maintain that level for the same period of time.

Just saying, Haikyuu is on decline because two years with no anime. Anime season 4 would give it another great push again.
Are we even sure HQ is on decline, Total Year Sales could have it track as the usual. Fastest selling isnt a measure anyone actually uses.

Additionally, the presence of an anime doesnt guarantee series to sell without decline.

I definitely see MHA starting to outsell Haikyuu individually by the next volume. However, as others have pointed out, MHA currently has an anime and a movie. Haikyuu has had nothing for 2 years. I'm sure MHA would be in decline if the same happened to it as well. I think MHA just really benefits from how consistent the anime output has been. It's quite lucky in that regard.

Just seeing Jump titles with more sales, It's easy to categorize them in 3 categories:
-Battle/action/adventures titles
-Spokon
-Kochikame and Gintama

Spokon titles sell a lot (reminder Prince of Tennis is the 15th most sold manga for example, just giving a no Slam Dunk or Captain Tsubasa example). However, comedies with less than 70 volume or romantic title don't have these high numbers (if I recall, romantic title with most sold volumes is Kimagure Orange Road which is in 40th place of Jump ranking, then Video Girl Ai in 50th)

The whole "its because of the anime" argument is such a can of worms because it implies that people were never going to buy it until a given episode premiered. I mean if that was the case then why hasn't Yuuna moved any volumes since the anime started? Why did Souma's sales still decline after having two new seasons? Why didn't Gintama grow exponentially in sales despite the huge popularity of the anime? There is always going to be a pull for sales and anime is always a key for that pull HOWEVER just because a series has an anime running doesn't mean that sales are going to raise or drop if its not there's always going to be something to bring readers back unless it just flat out loses its audience. Haikyuu went up in sales recently and it had no anime running.

I didn't post it earlier because there was a possibility of it being fake and because the ranking is quite different from POS but another one hasn't been posted yet and the totals seem correct. The difference in the Heroaca volumes might also be due to more stores.

51-100 Oricon 8/6-8/12

-
20269 *609939 Haikyuu
17099 2020848 OP
12954 *698946 Heroaca 18
12925 1174276 Heroaca 1
12861 **23426 Jigokuraku
12585 **26531 Sumou
12128 1137382 Heroaca 2
11226 1103608 Heroaca 3
11190 1087172 Heroaca 4
10992 **22722 Act-age
10801 1069851 Heroaca 5

On POS, volume 17 was higher up than some of the volumes here so it seemed off but its totally possible considering a difference in stores.
Looks like Act-Age is going to be selling more than Zumou in the next volume.

Wtf Kawada, you have a wife and a child... I think you will need a second job.

You mean they're appealing to just the U.S?

It looks like most fans just want the arc/series to end at this point...at least in the west. Not sure how the Japanese feel about it.
Shokugeki to me it will go on for another year, maximum two ... and there would be many for a manga like that.
The anime seems to do really well its jc staff longest series next to like what index and bakuman both those series ran 70 plus episodes. Soumas at 60 plus Ofc it is in in no way as big as those but still 3 seasons is pretty good run .So i feel it still has some appeal that goes for here in the states as well. Both the first two seasons i preordered on rightsuf released by sentai sold out restocked/twice.

I feel like the current love triangle with Erina they should have done a lil more of from the start. Its taken along time to get back to it. Having a character arch rather than some one off shokugeki batlles may be enough to freshen things up.

Kawada earns way more by being serialized in the magazine than by volume sales. HZ has been running way longer than Act age so no he doesn't need a second job.

The rate for starting mangaka's is like $100 per page and goes up by experience. Oda earns around $300-500 per page. Admittedly these figures aren't 100% accurate as they were from a TV program that was trying to break down Oda's salary but trying to be accurate as possible. Point is that Kawada definitely earns way more from the magazine than volume sales. In that same program it said that mangaka's earn around 10% from volume sales.

^ To add on to that
Back in 2012(?) i saw a post that say a mangaka (around the same time Oda interview but i can't find the post anymore) needs like 120k print volumes in a year to earn as much as an average salaryman. So average of 30,000 print per volume for 4 volumes released in a year.

Quick google shows that average salaryman's salary is 4.4 million yen. If you take 10% of 400 yen/volume multiply by 120k you will get the similar amount (4.8 million), but you would have to have a larger number since they have to pay for assistants. I would assume mangaka is contractor, meaning they will have to pay for their own insurance, and possibly the assistants insurance and food. Not to mention the cost of drawing in digital.
https://getnews.jp/archives/8585 (some mangaka actually break down the cost)

Kawada is doing okay for the last 4 years but he won't have that much saving royalties compare to other mangaka in Jump after his series ended.

edit: i can't do math :(

if he has assistants and a studio for the manga, the salary per page will not be enough at all

120k a year is 30k per volume for 4 volume

Does Muhyo and Roji have no western fandom, 3 episodes and I've seen no movement or presence at all among the western fandom.

I don’t think the adaptation is good enough to bring forth a fandom

Shows that start late seem to have trouble gaining any ground. I've noticed it before with shows starting late (sequels like AoT don't count). I guess for the first couple weeks people are watching whatever and by August no one is thinking about new shows or they've already got shows they're watching picked out.

Thanks for those sheets. Can I pick these to me? They're pretty useful as a basis.

Also, would love to see the same for other manga.

sure, the charts need some experience though, everything else are pretty much automated.

planning on doing all of current/notable jump series, and then move on to other magazines,

I would say the anime is way better than the manga, it's not anime's fault that the manga it's based on is generic
that's the problem with Nishi's works, people always rate him for some reason when all his work Bokkesan, Hachi are below average at best
I find that even his "hits" Muhyo & Roji, Lycanthrope are incredibly boring

in4 she suddenly shows up in the manga and the characters pretend she was always there

Personally I love the manga’s art, and for me the anime doesn’t do the manga’s justice.
