The first episode of a series doesn't have to be explosive and "go buy the manga to find out what happens" like to make people go buy the manga. Heroaca didn't have that. That first episode literally ended in the middle of the chapter without a big hook, yet people still went out to buy the volumes. Saying Slime and Goblin Slayer shouldn't be compared as they're much bigger doesn't really make too much sense as Hinomaru Sumou is a Jump series. Sure its niche within it but it gets more exposure in the mainstream on a weekly basis than both of those series. Unfortunately, it seems like people just aren't taking to Sumou. Its too early to call anything but by episode 3 we should have a good idea on how the boost, if there will be one, is.

I more meant they're much bigger so more people would watch them and get the urge to buy the sources (apparently Slime was a top selling franchise in Japan before the anime even started https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2018-06-26/top-selling-media-franchises-in-japan-2018/.133430). People kept saying here Sumo is niche and will rely on word of mouth. It aired at the same time as Index and a few hours before Jojo so no one's going to check it out (although I didn't agree with that) and now suddenly it's an issue those people didn't run out and buy it within a couple days? I'm not sure about Japan but from what I've noticed here bookstores are a lot busier weekdays from about 3-6 PM because it's more convenient to stop by on your way home from school/work than to make a specific trip. Even with online shopping Amazon doesn't ship on weekends.

Jump series tend to do really well on weekends. Obviously we don't have concrete numbers but looking on POS daily charts and individual retailer charts, Jump series tend to jump (heh) up on weekends, with Friday usually being the lowest day in the ranking, unless a new volume comes out then.

Slime and Goblin Slayer are bigger pre-anime but once the first episode airs, I'd say they all have the same amount of chance at growing. Sure a bigger pre-anime series might grow more but that's not always set in stone. Sumou also has that Jump brand behind it, which is huge. I originally thought that the time it airs might matter but now its really not a big deal in terms of being overshadowed by Jojo and Index in being watched. At this point it is sort of a waiting game to see whether people will go out and buy the volumes.

some manga just explodes after the anime aired.

the easiest example I could think of is Yuru Camp which grow (from estimates) ~50x after the anime aired (volume 1 suddenly appear in top 500 [118] literally the day after the 1st episode of the anime aired)

All of cells at work volumes appeared in the top 50 oricon around the time the anime initially aired.

I know these are not really a fair comparisons, since they have different audiences, but immediate boost in sales had happened and usually are more noticeable when the manga was relatively unknown before the anime.

Zumou backlogs not appearing immediately in the rankings is not all gloom and doom, and it is really too early to tell, but it is farfetched to say the anime is not showing sign of manga sales boost as of yet yet.

Did Yuragi showed up in the TOP 500 after the first episode?

Both of those are good examples. Yuru Camp grew really big after the anime and Cells at work which sold like 300k before, now is reaching 500k.

Volume 1 and a few others showed up sporadically in the daily top 500 on POS once the anime began but that was only in July. No old volumes showed up in the weekly POS charts, like ever. The only volume which did was the latest at the time, which was volume 11.

the animation only hype for like the last 3 mins of the episode, the rest was the usual weekly "quality"
I thought the new opening was boring
More like 5-6 mins and longer if you enjoyed the Katakuri being exposed segment. OST was superb and the fighting choreography was on point. The directing was nice too, overall it definitely elevated what was shown in the manga (one of my fav fights post-TS). For some reason, this episode has left me rather intrigued in learning more about animation. The rest of the episode was pretty standard though but the fight made it up for it. Again, Im hyped for Jump Festa and also seeing that Kimetsu PV.

I agree, most OP openings are boring nowadays and don't have that same flair as the pre-TS ones. What a shame.

Sadly I can see it ending "soon" after the anime ends. I just hope it gets a natural ending or one that isn't too rushed.

Ametalk 1 hour segment when :3c

Looking at its current pace I do think it can end in 6 months but it won't be with Hinomaru becoming Yokozuna. I wouldn't be surprised if the editorial has already told Kawada that he's got around 6 months left. It definitely won't be a satisfying ending though.

The episode was definitely elevated by incredible direction. That method of splitting the screen into panel like segments was fantastic. The fight itself towards the end was also great. My only problem with the OP is the song really.

Zumou's current arc would be a pretty good fitting finale if need be, we've got lots of build up and tension, Hinomaru's changed with new resolve, a final boss, everyone's back to cheer him on, and so on. Even 25-30 chapters (so until the anime ends + an extra month or so) would probably be enough to finish in a pretty satisfying way (it'd have to keep some side fights short but that's fine).

On another anime note, did Muhyo's anime boost any old volumes? I know it's to promote a new sequel manga or something and I'm curious if there's been track-able visible impact.

Wasn't the sales supposed to be for 1/10 to 7/10? Or the chart is for next week?

Act age multiple urgent reprint despite not making in at least top 50 oricon make me a little bit skeptical. A print number would be nice.

Yuuna total blu ray/dvd sells for the first vol is only 3000+, rip season 2 :emocat. Hopefully merchs sell is good.

I love how incredibly positive the AMZN reviews are for this.

Reprint numbers would be nice to know, as a reprint could really just be an extra 10 or 20K copies, or even something like 5K or less.
