The digital vault is the more compelling aspect really since it is like 1.99 for every series they've released ever. (100 CHP daily limit though)

Quite sure to read many series people have to use bad or low quality manga scans.

So does this mean the entire magazine will be translated, or just the entire backlog?

Wording doesnt imply entire backlog and also doesnt imply entire magazine.

The latest chapter of all ongoing series will be released on the same day as Japan and available to everyone for FREE at Shonen Jump! The latest 3 chapters of all ongoing series will also be available to everyone, with many new series to come!

Then, the Japanese will be the only ones who will have to pay to read the magazine.
Unless they understand English.

so the magazine is free now, and since he said that its coming out at the same time as japan, that means we get VIZ early as well right? The biggest thing to me would be if the entire magazine is now getting scanlated instead of what Viz picks and chooses, and if so, all I would have to do is play 2.99 to catch up to Jujutsu Kaisen lmao. Imo nobody would even have a reason to read Edited Mangas anymore. unless they were region blocked

Spanish Speaking world, Brazilian speaking world, Portuguese speaking world, France speaking world, Germany speaking world, and the Chinese speaking world (except those in Singapore) do need to have their choices for jump manga though

I mean most popular WSJ series come out like three days earlier, pretty big reason to use scans.

If something is too good to be true, then it usually is.

I think even in a world where the entire magazine is scanned, people would still do scans since well people do look at spoilers and go into multipage long discussion about those, why would these same people suddenly avoid looking at the scans that still come three days before the official release of jump WW.

I think the deal does imply there is no more reason to read scans of legacy series or perhaps even newer ones since even just page quality of viz is better than what scans are using,

They deleted the video for and the announcement tweet for some reason, but Viz's Shonen Jump is now free to read apparently, if I understood that correctly.
:wtf
did they add more countries that get access?

the page says.
:oooh
Shonen Jump memberships are available in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, the Philippines, Singapore, and India!

This would have killed mangastream if it was available worldwide.

This is more of a problem for the licensors since shueisha and other publishers don't have subsidiaries around the world for that and are domestic, much lile publishers of comic books of other countries having to do the same, with the difference that their main language isn't japanese

This makes more sense I suppose since it's easily accessible, but I'll honestly miss the magazine format. I like having everything together in one long issue, that's how they're meant to be read weekly.

If you only want to read certain series it's better (plus it gives them more indication of what Jump Starts are actually popular, assuming those continue) but if you read almost everything like me it's a little more inconvenient now (especially on the app where you download everything).

This can be very promising, not gonna lie. It helps in making official means of reading manga more accessible.
BUT, they've got to keep adding more series. So lets wait and see how this goes.

Getting away from the magazine format is probably a good thing, since it was often held back by size constraints. Maybe OPM can get up to date now for example, since the magazine was always too full to include it? They’ve spent so long catching up on HQ volume releases, maybe they can simulpub it now without the restriction of needing room in the magazine and somehow making up the 50 chapter gap between the latest viz volume and latest chapter? Now Monthlies should come out on the day too, rather than up to 6 days after depending on when the dates of SQ and the weekly issues coincided.

Simulpubbing new series after a certain point was always an issue since they had no easy way to let people read backlog chapters while they tried to catch up without also doing physical releases. Yet they managed to get up to date on every single one of their Jump Plus series since they were never restricted by this - even Eldlive which they were years behind on. Not to mention most of these series wouldn’t have been anywhere near as popular as most of their Jump stuff they were behind on. I was initially kinda negative about this, but after some thought, I think it opens up far more options for them to be more flexible with how they treat their series. They can effectively take the same approach they have been with their Jump Plus and other free section titles with all of their SJ licenses now, since everything’s on the same playing field.

It also opens up the possibility of simulpubs outside of Jump, Plus and SQ in the future (They never had a means to simulpub Tokyo Ghoul despite how massive it got for example). And I guess this also removes the age restriction they had with the magazine (Platinum End can’t be bought in the app for example since its age rating is too high. Also probably why it was never included in Jump. I was wondering recently if they could even include Chainsaw Man in the long term legally, even if they wanted to).

Apart from the obvious benefits, I’d say this is a very good step in the right direction. Now how do we go about getting more licenses though .

Mangastream has the early release advantage. They probably knew about this, which is why Neverland is now released Fridays instead of Mondays.

Obviously it's all a move to curb the sites of scan as much as possible, although it will work shortly since the scan sites come out before officially in Japan.

I think only an idiot can think that it is effectively eliminating the illegal scan in a few years.

Even if they publish the chapter the same day of piratescan there are those who will always prefer the pirate site, who in protest, who to do the alternative, who for habit, who for the convenience of the player and for another thousand reasons.

Without considering that only the last or the last cap will be published for free online, then people would still scan for reread and recover the old ones.
