If sales doesn’t indicate fanbase then what is it then? Profit?
sales + online and offline representation + the products that can move outside of the main product it offers, like how a manga can sell action figures or have a successful movie for example, in my opinion.

I dont think theres a single thing to indicate size of fandom. I think it's been detailed several times here just by looking at doujin circle counts, pixiv arts, even fanfic counts that the highest selling series can have the lowest amount of fanworks. Anime sells are also deceptive because of high cost and also you dont need to pay money to watch shows. Even manga sells, people dont necessarily buy every volume of manga of a series.

I think it's only clear when there is no/a dead fanbase but other than that it's probably not possible to quantify fanbase size to the resolution that you can differentiate popular series from one another.

This just reminds me of the stupid super push or new emperors crap, why can't companies just advertise stuff normally.

Amazon digital sales ranking in 2018
https://manganimemalaysia.blogspot.com/2018/12/amazon-japan-2018-digital-comic-ranking.html

1. Shingeki no Kyojin
2. Dungeon Meshi
3. HxH
4.Kingdom
5. Golden Kamuy
6.Slime
7. Yuru Camp
8. Goblin Slayer
9. Made in Abyss
10. Nagi no Oitoma.

Sharkbait after not seeing Black Clover in the ranking
this list was suspicious and concerning even weeks ago when ann posted and several commentors were up in arms about the lack of heroaca in the top half, which does make this amzn list not representative of the actual situation for manga sales. I do not think anyone is trusting it due to the lack of several pillars of shonen jump not being present (haikyuu, absent, really? BLack Clover as well? impossible)

Interesting seeing how OP is not even in top ten. And neither is MHA with its big burst this year.
This is only one digital distributor, in it's manga physical sales Yotsuba& surpassed One piece, but still a good indicator and there are very good and deserving series in the top 20. MHA is at 14 and One piece is at 19 by the way.

Edited here

I found on the site a top 50 for Digital sales in all Japan and now your image does fit the bill since Black clover is not in the top 50. Jump works that are though :

2 - Kingdom
5 - Golden Kamuy
6 - Hunter X Hunter
9 - World end's Harem
18 - One Piece
24 - MHA
33 - Terraformars
37 - Onepunchman
38 - The Promised Neverland

Digital vault stuff, you can only download 100 chapters at any point. You have to delete some to download more. Currently reading Black Cat

the two dudes fight each other and the MC wants to bang the chick, whats great about this chap?
Can't speak for others but I for one liked how the MC won the brawl just by ball kicks. It is a legit street fighting technique and it makes sense to hit somebody in his crown jewels because that hurts as hell. Yet you hardly see that in most shounen, it is always fist to the face or head-butts or kick into the stomach or some sword or "magic" technique that seals the deal. And when somebody gets hit in the groin it is usually played off as a joke, like for example in One Punch Man where Saitama accidentally hit that Sonic dude in his balls because he landed on them full speed. So having a MC with no "battle morale" who just goes straight for the groin and keeps going because that is the easy way to win, then I respect that given the fast amount of Battle Shounen MCs we got who fight only upper half at their opponent.

SJ VIZ vault is amazing. I'm about to get on a plane and downloaded the first 20 of Yaiba. The question is: Will it bring in enough revenue from converted pirates to justify it's existence? Personally, It allows me to read series like Yaiba for free that I was borderline on getting. My shelf is getting crowded, but charging 6.99 for a digital volume is also outrageous imo. The app is interestingly trying to sell me volume of the series I'm reading after each chapter....y tho? Why would I...pay for...what I'm reading for free...?

Regardless. Love the App and service it provides, even if it crashes a lot :)

Excited about the possibility of US manga going up for free on the app too. There is no reason not too. I may actually try myself and see if Viz bites.
