Which HQ volume? Current, the comparison doesnt really seem sensible, comparing a volume post the conclusion of the anime to one that hasnt been animated for three years now, doesnt really make sense to me.

You must be new to symbolism... Have you not seen volume covers 16 and 19? Were those just as cringe in your opinion?

Attempted symbolism doesn't necessarily make something good.
I saw them right now for the first time and they are cringe, too. Holding a spear, a giant shield or two characters wielding knives ready to stab each other is cringe AF when you consider that they are playing volleyball. What's next, holding an AK-47 as symbolism for "my shots will penetrate your team"?

I don't think there's any good cover from Boruto. It's the worst of the entire series of the magazine. It's straight up disgusting.
Yeah, I personally don't like this artist's art style for Naruto characters. His proportions and the angles he chooses for the characters don't go well with that whole universe.
