Lolno, I didn't say that MHA isn't as hype, I say that after OFA fight it lost something that make you think with more objetivity .
Most Kimetsu fights have problem in powerscaling, but how the situation is handle made you forgot about their problems and

I neither say that hype is the only measure you have to think a series is good, I said that hype made you minimize their problem (and maximize their strongs points).

In the end, when you are arguing what series is better you need to see their strong and weak points, but what are you arguing is what series you like more, because you are only focusing in what the series you like do right.
So that's why Hype is a problem in all this debate about "what series is better"

Shiggy hand bomb was hype? Even Tetsutesu vs Todoroki or Mushroom girl apparition were more hype than that lol.
But seeing your taste, is obvious that you will find that more hype, and is not a bad thing, tho.
I see what you're saying but it doesn't ring true to me. My process is not based on hype, it's based on whether a manga is enjoyable and interesting. I then reverse engineer and think about which points I most enjoyed or which parts ruined it. Kimetsu has good execution so things don't feel like asspulls for me. The opposite is true for BNHA. Even if BnHA was magic favorite series I could still say the writing sucks. E.g. I really like Reborn but I can tell all of the fights got pretty asspully and thus wouldn't say the writing is that good.

Man, I get my iPad cut off for a day and boy, have we got some discussion.....

That I agree with, I have no idea what MHA is trying to be anymore it feels like it lacks direction, but anyways reading Sam8 chapter and my issues with the art are still there, wont go into detail of the story though until the official release.
I'll have to disagree with you here, I think Horikoshi's direction is becoming clearer than ever these days. The endgame is to pit Shigaraki/AFO and Deku against each other in one grand finale, but what Horikoshi is doing is a bit different from other shonen, he's setting both the protagonist and antagonist on the same level cap from the beginning and develop them from there, unlike in other settings where the Big Bad usually sets the power level cap the protagonist needs to reach/surpass.

Honestly, I wasn't sold on Shigaraki from the beginning and kept thinking why would Horikoshi make a lame villain. But it wasn't until @Nakurawari pointed out that Shigaraki is actually very much the same as Deku, who's just starting out as a hero, he too, is just starting out as a villain. That's why I have a greater appreciation for Horikoshi going against the usual convention on the main villain setting the power cap from the get-go.

Yes, you could argue AFO was the one who set the power cap, but now that he's out of the picture, we get to see Shigaraki slowly building his villain cred and leadership and that's even more interesting from the Aizen and Madara types.

I'm about 25 or so chapters behind Black Clover at the moment so I need to catch up again. Hearing good things.

MHA has for sure been giving off a weird vibe to me for a while. Definitely like this arc a hell of a lot more than the previous 1A-1B arc though. Although I'll admit that while a villain vs villian arc sounded cool at first, it's not as grand as I was anticipating. I enjoy the focus on the LoV quite a lot actually, but the Liberation Army are just starting to come off as blatant stepping stones for the LoV(more so than Overhaul ever did). Hoping I'll be wrong in the end, and something unexpected happens.
I agree with this. So far, it's pretty much building up for the LoV to steamroll the MLA, and although that makes them as underwhelming as Overhaul did, I am enjoying the character development out of it. As much as people want the MLA/Re-destro becoming recurring villains, I'm wondering if that's actually a wise thing to do. If Horikoshi has too many villain factions in the story, I fear that might eventually derail the story's focus.

Unless.... Horikoshi has 1-A's Big 3 each having a focus on taking down each villain faction. It could work, I guess.

The #1 BC critic did get banned after all. Speaking of which I think Black Clover the series I'm most curious about where it'll go next, the current arc feels like the climax of part 1 and while there's a few things here and there it could use as the next main direction it's still mostly unknown what's specifically coming next (besides of course probably a cooldown arc for the fallout of these events and crowning the new wizard).

Personally my only current issue with MHA is Facepalm, he just feels like a bit of a joke villain to me rather than intimidating which he's clearly meant to be. Toga and Twice and the other Stain fanboy villains are fun, but Shigaraki just feels like a weak guy who mostly hides and doesn't tie the others together well. Maybe that's the point, idunno, but even so portraying a villain as a weak child who runs away a lot doesn't make for the most engaging content. Reminds me of Inuyasha a bit honestly, where the main antagonist there was the weakest part of the series because all he did was lose then run away repeatedly. Hopefully the current arc will start his growth into a character who feels worth of the primary antagonist role rather than a throwaway villain who's stuck around too long.

On the Chainsawman side, I'm glad the rankings have improved and it's finding its place in the magazine, Fujimoto's a master of escalating weirdness and I'm really curious to see how he now that it can make proper long term plans.
Like @Nakurawari said, that is kind of the point about Shiggy's character. Just like Deku, he's growing into his own as a villain as well.

Even though MHA is almost 5 years old, it still feels weird to have followed Horikoshi since Sensei no Bulge, when he wasn't a huge name. Now, you have other mangaka freak out that he has their manga in his collection. I think that's why, even though I don't think MHA is the best in the magazine, I have the most attachment to it.
One wouldn't think that this guy once had two series sent into the gutter before MHA. I bet a lot of newbies coming into Jump think this as well. I'm so proud of my boy:uguu

That brings to mind a question, are there other creators who had 2 flops then got a big hit? I suppose Horikoshi's first series wasn't a total flop but it ran for less than a year so it was still mostly a flop.

I can think of a bunch with one flop before their hit but nobody else immediately comes to mind that flopped twice then succeeded.

And this, my friend, is why Horikoshi's career trajectory will forever be part of Jump's lore from now on.

I had a quick check and it looks like Araki had two flops before Jojo?

And Miyashita had 4 earlier series before Otokojuku but the second one lasted more than 2 years which I'd consider a success (considering it's from 1980 where stuff was usually shorter). He did then have two quickly cancelled series before Otokojuku though so maybe he kind of counts.

I think the only way for developing both the heroes and the villains in a good way is if we could root for the villains just as much as we could root for the heroes. Like Nekoma vs Karasuno, you see both teams improve and actually aren't sure who you want to win. VS Fukurodani will be like that too. And I think that's what Horikoshi was going for. Except now I can't root for either lol, Villains are edgy and unlikable and heroes are bland and predictable.

Also there's a reason why power escalation is so common in battle manga, because it maintains the stakes. The only alternative is using smart writing to maintain the stakes like with Kira from JoJo who wasn't necessarily OP but was still deadly as fuck. But after AFO literally all battles feel weak. Endeavor vs high-end was actually pretty high stakes but that's just because of "le insane bad guy out of nowhere to up the tension", which ruins the experience partially. Much like Deku's villain magnet quirk.

Maybe I should shut up on BNHA because I'm annoying even myself at this point. Hehe

If Kubo came back, do you guys think he would get the same promotion/push that Kishi is currently getting?

Probably not, Bleach might've been the #3 for a decent while but it dropped a massive amount in popularity losing its face of the magazine status and and spent 6+ straight years as almost perma-bottom 5. I'm sure there'd be some but I can't imagine it being promoted like it's the next big hit before it even starts like Samurai 8.

Though I don't think Kubo will ever come back with a weekly series anyway considering how he talked about struggling later on will illness due to the intense schedule, not for more than a Comiq/Jaco-style short.

Am I the only one who finds Jigokuraku's covers to be awesome while the art in the other pages is bad.

Jigokuraku's art is absolutely gorgeous. The volume covers are better looking but the manga art is still brilliant IMO.

The volume art have nice uses of color. I hope David pro (jojo staff) adapts this manga, one of my fav's from Jump+
