Samurai 8: I liked the first chapter. I liked the concept, I liked the designs. The story can get more interesting. The 3rd chapter was kinda meh, mostly because I don't like Nanashi and it was too focused on him to shine. Overall the best of the new series so far.

Futari no Taisei: Not for me, didn't' find it interesting to follow it anymore.

Beast Children: Kinda standard for a sport series, but it wasn't interesting enough for me to want to keep reading it and want more. Will check few more chapters, but don't expect to get any more better than this.

Will see next week about Tokyo Shinobi Squad. The oneshot was kinda boring, but hopefully it will be different now.
Where did you read it? I know you can sail the high seas for the entire raw magazine but I imagine there must be sites with just the raw one shot. Wasn't on Dex or LH.

I don't know if it was, but yeah, early Fujimaki is still the holder of one of the worst arts i have ever seen in Jump, it's not the worst art ever, but still pretty lacking and simple for a non-gag.
Naw that's Isayama. If you count him because Jump rejected his oneshot

You guys speak as if Naruto was anything special by its third chapter...
First chapter of Naruto is still a classic. Intelligent battle and emotional. Second chapter was surprisingly clever as well. Third was squads right, that was also fun.

Anyone bookmarked a couple pages back so if Samurai 8 goes the way you say it will you can quote everyone else and say "I told you so"?

My main problem with Sam8 is that I feel no emotions reading it. It makes me feel like a sociopath or something because there are all these things happening in the pages but it just comes across as reading facts. Lol

Futari no Taisei was the weirdest shit I've seen for a while, and not in a good way. Please axe it.

Beast Children was straightforward but nice and set up some future character drama. Looks to be better than current Haikyuu at least, since current Haikyuu is basically soulless. But no sport manga will ever top HQ's first chapter. Unless there's some older classics I'm ignoring.

Tell that to Platinum End.
Ouch....

1982 and 1987. Scrum and uhhhhhh No Side. Neither one did well, but they’re pretty nice. I’d long written the sport off from Jump until now, so it’s a nice surprise.

Was No Side a little later?

TPN did it, but it's still the exception. Meanwhile, while Boruto started at 350k...it's sales have not kept.

Do remember Boruto has these sales while also supporting a very popular TV anime.
Where'd you get the TPN numbers?

lol @ people thinking Samurai 8 will pull a RxL.

It's absolutely going to be a mega-hit, just watch.
Kishi fanboy spotted.

It's because Kishi has such a "grand vision" that he forgot what grounding meant. What we've gotten is a very complex setting with lots of exposition for some terminology but none about how it's structured with a vaguely mythical "get to the goal" set-up that the protagonist doesn't even know about. It's lead to the manga feeling utterly disorganized, and the art does not help matters. MHA, BC and all the other hit battle manga right now, they all have the advantage that they were clear on where they were heading from the early chapters, and thus readers could connect to them.

Where'd you get the TPN numbers?
Mangani's charts.

Tell that to Platinum End.
Platinum End is a mature manga, so of course it isnt going to sell as high as mainstream all ages manga.

Yeah, looks like it didn't get to 100k until Vol. 3 (122k).
Guess the theme of this era is new series starting small and building up to greats. Just like a typical battle manga protagonist, incidentally.

Looks like someone hasn't been keeping up with sales data.

Also, Platinum End isn't a "mature" manga, it runs in Jump SQ, what are you going on about.

well, if the double taisei followed a path that everyone understood where it would go, it would be another sport manga, just like beast children and would end up like the other shogi manga that were canceled on the jump (momonofu and kitetsu). He seems a little chainsaw man, in the unpredictable part so it's fine.

The staff eventually created a misunderstanding that it would be a new attempt on Hikaru no go and it will not be.

Doesn't matter. The series still runs in a shonen magazine. Would you label Beastars as a "mature" manga even though it too runs in a shonen magazine?

I think it’s more so a case of an outlier mature series running in a kid’s magazine. I definitely wouldn’t say series like Yuuna and To Love Ru are for kids.

So a different person is doing the art than the one who did this?

Neither were as big as Kishi, IIRC.
Death Note might've only lasted 2 years but it;s popularity was unrivaled in those 2 years.

Also, why are people forgetting Bakuman? Bakuman was such a drastic shift from Death Note and still did incredibly well. As long as S8 has a decent story, it can do fine.
From what I've heard, Platinum End is just a horrible shit show, hence it debuting with great numbers and then falling miserably makes sense. Just like Boruto.
