As I said, I simply didn't want to retype everything. Putting the twitter link is an act of pure laziness on my part.
Keep being lazy like this and you'll earn a a block for me (doubt you care). The only reason I even come to this forum is to avoid twitter, youtube, reddit etc discussions.

Appropos of recent conversation, some recommended resources for better understanding and exploring ideas behind why a comic or story does or does not work beyond “I think this is bad”

The Hero with a Thousand Faces by Joseph Campbell:

Understanding Comics by Scott McCloud:

Comics and Sequential Art by Will Eisner:

Manga in Theory and Practice by Hirohiko Araki:
All good starting points for people trying to turn talking about weekly shonen jump into something more longform and critical, whether here or (yes) on twitter. Maybe overkill for those happy to just chat casually about it all of course, but good for those looking to go beyond that.

WTF I didn't know Sakigake Otokojuku had so many sequel spinoffs. And it seems Miyashita is still doing them even today

Based Momotaroh is one most based MCs in Shonen Jump.

The king of diminishing returns, though. Every new series or spin-off seems to shrink and shrink. Glad Miyashita has kept his world going though

I mean, given that the Otokojuku setting isn't really bound by logic (for fucks sake, a character shoots a tiger out of a sword at one point), I think Miyashita just keeps it going by being as random and insane as possible.

1. So BC is better than MHA at the moment yeah?
2. What level of growth do you expect for Dr. Stone from the anime?
3. In the last 15 years of new series , which manga do you think has tried to steer away from the cliche troupes that most manga under the shounen demographic tend to follow?
4. Pick which two mangaka would you like to see collaborate and become a duo from the last 20 years.
5. Best female mangaka in JUMP in the last 30 years?
These are Infinitely better topics than random twitter personalities and youtubers
1. No cuz mha is already on its best arc (villian arc), these 2 mangas have different purpose for being the best manga. While mha also focus on its slice of life doesnt make the franchise any "worse", its a perfect formula being an story based super hero manga. Like god u dont need 7/24 action to be a good shonen. But the training arc with class A vs B was one of the worst writting in shonen, god the arc was so bad.. how can u dumb dumpster ur characters this bad, only for class B to shine. YIKES

2. Same as TPN & kimetsu since these 3 are the new big 3

3. There are alot but i will say attack on titan, even tho it feels more and hints more seinen than "shonen". Also medaka box deserve alot more phrase, espcially if u read the manga

4. Dr.stone & one piece / mha & Black clover, these 4 have an long timespan

5. Kimetsu no yaiba & gangstars < (i swear this serie needs to be picked up again)

Maybe, but that can get tired too. Look at how BoBoBo crashed out when it became Shinsetsu. You can only do the same tricks for so long. Miyashita has changed tone a bunch depending on the series though so he must have an idea what he’s doing

I feel like that's an issue with gag manga in general. The matter of reality constraining you from jokes VS the whole thing devolving into nonsensical drivel.

Nonsensical drivel might be a bad phrase to use as crit when BoBoBo is on the cards. It built its success off non-sequitir nonsense humour. It just had a set lifespan is what I’m saying.

That and most gag is based in a bit of nonsense, so

Miyashita's pretty much competing with Akagi's Fukumoto to see who can make the most sequels and spinoffs to one series.

I mean, at this point, it's less spin-offs and more the Fukuverse, where gamblers run wild and decades are spent on a single match of mahjong.

GIGA are special issues of Jump which contain stuff like bonus content for ongoing's, resolution chapters and one-shots.

You mean Jump GIGA? It's a companion magazine to wsj that typically has a bunch of oneshots and mini-series, as well as special chapters of stuff from the main magazine. Usually it has 3 monthly issues in Summer and 3 in Winter (first issue this Summer seems to be 27th June, and the next two will be at the end of July and end of August).

Sometimes series get moved to there to do their final chapters when they end so that wsj can get the series out of the main magazine earlier (and hence have the next new manga start earlier). Gintama got moved to Jump GIGA in winter and it seems like Soma's maybe going to end there in this year's Summer run.

Those one-shot's and minis are, FYI, where most new series originate. Once in a while Jump will run a one-shot for a test drive when there's nothing else to run, but generally speaking GIGA is Jump's primary breeding ground for new and growing talent.

Well, I actually used some spare time to reread Stealth Symphony and, while it was an awful weekly manga, it works well as a complete work. From my memory the manga were far more messed up than it actually is.

As Narita is a LN writer we should have expected this to happen and I'm glad I've decided reread it.

And YES, as I said before, it really does not follow the shonen tropes at all.
Stealth symphony is in the highest echelon of literary mastery in all Japanese literature and I'd even go as far as saying among most contemporary literature thus far. Its subversions, its themes, its chilling relevancy to the world of today, really you just see nothing like it y'know? Pillars of literature today like Hunger Games, Game of Thrones, Twilight, Harry Potter, and classics like Maze Runner and Fifty Shades of Grey just dont even come close to the dynamic and phenomenal writing in Stealth Symphony. Writers need to study this story for years to come and learn from it. It's just that good.

Any bets on which we'll get? I'm guessing the third based purely on the art. Maybe 1st or 2nd if a popular mangaka is doing them.
