Thank scav? I mean, the show was so good and so big it somehow lessened the impact of how fucking dreadful the GoT ending was for HBO. I'm convinced HBO stemmed the hemorrhaging of subscribers post-GoT solely because of Chernobyl's success lol.

I recently watched Too Old To Die Young, which is definitely not for everyone, as well as the 2nd season of Dark, which is just amazing and mindblowing.
TOTDY is super stylized, which is what you'd expect from Refn (who made Drive, Neon Demon, etc.) and it's somewhat slow at first... I mean the series has 10 episodes = 12h30 total runtime. I liked it, but hope to see a follow-up.
As for Dark, it's best to just go into it as blindly as possible, it really is amazing. If you have Netflix and want to watch it though, remember that the original language is german. Don't listen to the dubbed versions.

Peter Dinklage won too. I mean, he's good, but he already won for that role back when he has good, Emmy-winning material to work with. This season he was nothing special. Only GoT win I would've endorsed would be Alfie Allen, for his consistently great work on throughout the show, but welp!

Haven't seen Bandersnatch but just the fact that it exists is groundbreaking, and while i liked the Deadwood movie it wasn't perfect so I'm fine with this.

Mahershala Ali was nominated at least, but in the miniseries category for some reason? I don't think nominations for the first series were put in there. I'm not sure how the show fits in the "limited or movie" category either. The show is an anthology, not a miniseries.

So is anyone watching Watchmen on HBO? I guess it can't really be understated how fucking gripping Lindelof shows are. I have no fucking idea in what direction it's heading but I'm enjoying it so far.

They could've easily out scary music over this trailer and made it look a purely gothic show. But they went with Iggy Pop's Lust for Life and I can't decide whether it's genius or a desperate trick to make the show more attractive to mainstream audiences. Don't know what to think of this at all, especially considering Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat are so very hit-and-miss.
But it's only 3 eps so will probably watch it all regardless.

I binged on it yesterday as well as "Witcher". My only gripe with Watchmen is, it could've been something entirely new, because Sister Night's character could've been a whole new thing imo. However, despite that, the show was great from beginning to end, I thought, Dr. Manhattan looked weird, but his story and what they did with him was cool, too.
Witcher show is okay too, Cavill plays a great Geralt and Netflix really gave you 8 hours of a show to watch, unlike these other streaming services that linger you on a week to week basis. Hate that and will wait on Mandalorian and Servant.

How was it not a whole new thing? You mean it not being focused on her as a masked vigilante? I think it worked as a good window back into the story because the most interesting thing about a new story in the Watchmen universe would be about the aftermath of what happened in the comics IMO.

I'm about halfway through Witcher and I agree Cavill plays a great Geralt, even better than I expected actually. More surprisingly was how great their Dandelion was. He has been exceptional.
The only real weakness the show had were the Sorceresses and that whole side of things. So far it seems like they really struggled there with casting, IMO. The best is probably the actress who plays Yennifer but even she has seemed sorta "meh". But with her I feel like part of that is just some of the pacing choices. The one who they have playing Triss is straight up bad though. It's not even the character. It's the performance. She bothered me.

Finished it. They definitely over focused on the sorceresses but it was still a pretty good show overall. With a few great moments in there.
Hopefully, we'll get another season with more Geralt, Dandelion, and Ciri and less Yen because that really was the biggest issue the show had. The actress who played Queen Calanthe was terrific as was the one who played Yennifer's teacher Tissaia. They really brought a lot of quality to the story.
The bit that I feel like never really got better were the sorceresses though. The actress playing Yen did ok considering what she had this weirdly self obsessed character arc she had to sell. Which made her character very unlikable. But the whole cast for sorceress side of the plot, with the exception for the Yen/Tissaia dynamic, felt very weird. Like a CW show almost. Not sure whether it was the acting or writing that was at fault but it just felt like it was on a lower tier compared to the rest of the show.

My main issue with The Witcher was how unconnected each of the episodes felt - I mean, I can see why they focussed on the short stories, as it gave a good intro to the backgrounds of the main 3, but (as someone who has already read quite a lot of the Witcher series) I reckon the story would have been a lot better had they not focussed on the main story instead.
I guess it might have been a bit confusing, as many watchers might not have understood how Geralt and Ciri are related - but I reckon a single episode could have provided just enough of a background to that...
I dunno - I hear they are making a 2nd series, if so then this should be much more watchable.
Not that I disliked the series, just I feel it could have been better if the connection between episodes was a little more obvious
also, as an aside, Yennifer is one of my favourite characters in the books - especially her background, her interactions with the other mages, and her general raison d'être
