you claimed chainsaw man would sell 1 million by volume 4

i told you that's impossible due to low sales and copies in circulation (show you numbers for the 2 volumes that are already out)

you didn't get my point and throw my own argument in my face

so i spelled it out for you so you do understand

how can a manga that doesn't have 100k copies in print sell 1 million???

DO YOU UNDERSTAND NOW?

First off, no need to yell at me.

Secondly, I have been pointing out that you have consistently been ignoring reprints and instead treating Oricon's records of the first printings as gospel. We don't know the total sales in print number, nor do we have any idea of the digital sales (which people have consistently been ignoring through this convo). Your entire argument is build on Word of Dante.

You have been showing yourself as remarkably arrogant and hostile through this whole affair, and honestly it's becoming really off-putting. Tone down your behavior, and maybe I'll be willing to listen to you.

I don't actually think Chainsawman will hit 1kk this year, but the chances aren't zero. According to book-rank, vol. 1 is at 94k and 2 is at 70k already, and they are still selling. It's not unfeasible that the next volumes will sell more.

Yes, yes I would consider Hinomaru a hit, just a smaller one than much of the Jump canon. You can't have a run of nearly 30 volumes over five years unless you had some measure of success.
Well, so Hinomaru Zumou it's what you can consider as a good example of "semi hit", at this moment i think Chainsaw Man is in this same category, Act-Age was in this place in the beginning, Yaiba too.

The thing is, I feel, that the definition of "hit" is pretty different in regards to Jump and in regards to the rest of the industry. Hinomaru sells like 30, 35k each volume, right? That's way more than the majority of series being published, and it kept this number for a very long time, which is... respectable. It's just not respectable enough for a magazine like Jump.

so now, I'm yelling and i need to tone down.......in a text based forums :eyeroll

...You spoke in capslock. That is yelling at someone in text form. Either you don't know that (and I can't imagine someone older than me not knowing), or you're being ignorant.

And you're now speaking entirely in extremes. You understand right that a hit doesn't need to be selling 100k at the start to work, right? Because the highest Vol 1 first printing in recent memory was Robot x Laserbeam, and look how well that turned out.

This stuff is very accurate, but as I said, I feel it's leaving out digital and reprints and how they can make the numbers seem lower. Hinomaru was, what, 1000th on the physical preorders, but in the Top 200 or so for digital? Who knows what the "true" sales even are.

Guys, there's no need for the arguing. Just agree to disagree if you feel like you're not making any progress.

For the record, I do consider CSM to be a hit. Not TPN/AssClass levels of super hit, but a hit none the less

Changing the subject to something I've been thinking about while reading Kingdom:

Do you guys think we'll ever get another massive 70+ volume series like the Big 3?

Honestly, no. I feel like 40-45 has sort of become a hard cut off point for things that could potentially run that long (My Hero, Black Clover, etc.)

Not to say it can't happen, I just personally don't see it happening again.

You can not have all the information, then you have to work with the information you have.

In the case of reprints, if the amount of first prints are not very good during several volumes, then it is extremely unlikely that the reprints are much better.

The part where the reprints can be bigger are for the first volumes, since the editorial still analyzes the popularity.

However, the editorial should know the popularity for later volumes and release the numbers they need in the first prints, so the reprints shouldn't be a significative amount.

Using digital sales information is complicated because you do not even know how many copies are sold. So, you can't know how improtant these sales are (although it doesn't seem to be so important).

No, those series were the exception. Even getting to the 500-600 chapters seems really unlikely for a lot of the series that are in the magazine right now.
