I am really shocked at the fact Shueisha stopped pushing Samurai 8 (for now). I am guessing that will restart at the end of September to promote the volumes, but still. Reception wise, it does seem it's not doing as well as they hoped.

Amusing to see Beast Children at Bottom 3 now, but it seems likely that they will end TSS, BC and Taisei at this point and go for a 4 manga serialization round.

I guess they think they pushed it enough, also because talking about a Kishimoto manga I would say that it pushed itself already ...

All they need to do is put 'by the creator of Naruto!' on the first 2 volumes of Samurai 8 and it'll sell at least decently regardless of quality or rankings. Remember RxL went to perma-bottom 3 pretty much right after the intro stuff but lasted past ch 60 since it sold well.

Consider that Kishi estimated it at 10 volumes, if it sticks to that and can sell at least what RxL did I think WSJ will just give it a full run either way. 100 or so chapters is pretty reasonable for a 60k+ selling series these days even with bad rankings, and unless they get a sudden explosion of big new hits it'll probably consistently get above 3-4 flops (and series in that situation tend to last a while even with bad sales).
A wraparound doesnt help prolong a series length or save it from cancellation

Shuttle Eyes had a push by Furudate, still underperformed (5k 7 days sales) while the most ironic thing being the fact it still has beaten three other manga from the same magazine that month (though it's Weekly Young Axe, not surprising). I think some Jump newbie this year had a push by a Neverland mangaka and it didn't help, forgot which one.

Posuka gave a shout-out to David like a month before it ended so it was probably too late (and completely different genres)

Mitama still hasn't left the bottom spot on Manga+. This isn't promising.

Also, I love Moonland and "Curtain's up, I'm off", but why do they have so many side stories? Other series don't publish 'extra chapters' (instead of an actual chapter) every four weeks, do they?

A wrap-around with a shout-out is a bit different to actually being made by the popular author. Western books do it too, seeing

"An incredible fantasy adventure, one of my new favourites." - JRR Tolkien

on the back of a book for example would've provoked a pretty different reaction from people browsing in the shop to seeing

"A brand new sci-fi adventure by the writer of Lord of the Rings!"

on the front of a book.

Summer Time Rendering has side chapters on occasion that are just text dumps with minimal art, for a while every second chapter of Jigokuraku was just an illustration, and back when it was running Astra Lost in Space used to have a gag strip every other week.

It's probably just a way to have an easier week of work so they can rest while still giving the readers some content.

Stone is a tad tricky, but I don't see see it going that much longer given its current pacing. I'd imagine by the end of the publication year the current arc will be done, and after that there's relatively little left to do beyond moving into a final arc. How long the final arc + epilogue would exactly be is again speculative, but the series pacing is such that I hardly imagine it being that long.

For reference, I wouldn't be surprised if the roster come the latter half of 2020 looks like this:

-One Piece
-Haikyu
-My Hero Academia
-Black Clover
-Act-Age
-Jujutsu Kaisen
-Chainsaw Man
-Samurai 8
-Mission: Yozakura Family
-New Series from Masaoki Shindo
-Fantasies by Ohsuga Gen
-New Romance Manga by Tsunehiro Date
-Sci-Fi series from Takamasa Moue
-New series from Random Author
-Fodder
-Fodder
-Fodder
-Fodder
-Fodder
-Gag Manga for the Kids.

Obviously a lot of this is speculative (and Yozakura is borderline indulgence on my part), but that's my take on things.

TPN and KNY i can for sure gonna end both in similair times. kny can extend its life-span but i dont see it happening from the writer, TPN prob gonna end early next year

mha seems to be the replacement for one piece when it ends. i can see it last till vol 58

haikyuu, i think they gonna win the tournament. after this much climax, it would be a waste to throw it away. like it wouldnt make much sense to start over again.

romcoms are always random, and idgaf. they are just here for diversity

JJK can go very long, similair as bleach

Drstone did you all forget about the premise?, senku is gonna revive civilization.. thats something that always has to do with alot of pacing. btw we finally got an arc OUTSIDE the ishigami village, do you guys read the manga clearly??. it can go for 10 years if it wants

chainsawman is really unknown, it depends how long new interesting characters come and go

Black clover depends how people still view the manga, rather than something thats being pushed. if there is an new genius mangaka's doing masterpiece battle shonen like hxh, people gonna get tired of bc if it keeps getting ''anti-climatic''.

But even if Black Clover does not exceed 40 volumes, what would be the problem?

finally read Mitama first chapter

it's doing the comedy duo thing, Mitama is the over the top guy doing weird funny poses while Haze act as the straight man providing reactions and snappy comments

dunno if it will work out in the magazine , recently Japan was doing the same thing, Mitama and Japan even do the same poses, and Haze and Tokio do the same faces and look how well that worked out for Japan

anywho....my thoughts on it are the same as Japan, it's funny sometimes and testing my patience other times

overall a mixed bag, i didn't hate it and it made me laugh a couple of times, so i'm sticking around to see where it goes
pretty sure they're aiming for the empty magazine last pages slot

I didn't like it, but maybe is because I follow Mieruko-chan.
Didn't feel the ghost as spooky and the comedy wasn't as good(although the ghost explaining things was fun).
It was decent tho, but I don't think I will follow it.

If profitability is a major factor, then Toriko should have stayed. It sold a butt load of merchandise. It was marketed as the third biggest series with OP and Naruto. Bleach was pushed 4th despite having a vastly superior media franchise. But at the sign of weakening, WSJ had no issues with rushing it to end. It's what they do especially when the Anime had ended.
Why are people acting as tho BC is in a safe bubble with its average sales? Series with far higher sales have been rushed to end. WSJ have Jujutsu, Chainsaw Man and maybe S8 to lean back on. Jujutsu already seems to be a bigger success than BC pre-anime.
Its a VERY competitive time in WSJ. Toriko was canned at a time which was far less competitive.
bc was really a third wheel of jump, it was meant to be on the back till the era of the big 3 finish to repalce them

For anyone wondering what "Princess Torture" is, it's a special chapter of the Jump+ manga "It's Time For 'Interrogation', Princess!".

"Muto & Sato" is also a special chapter of a Jump+ series.

I don't know if I'm allowed to comment old Jump series here, but I'm currently reading Dragon Ball. All I knew about the manga was from the few DBZ episodes I watched it as a kid, but I wasn't crazy on them or anything (from the popular battle-shonen in Brazil at the time, I was more interested in Saint Seiya) and as I aged I started to have some kind of misguided vision of the series, thinking it was just a over-the-top battle manga and skipped watching/reading it.
Then I started it last week and.... oh boy, I really liked it. REALLY.
But I'm actually surprised that I enjoyed the original DB period that much. Even more than the "Z" one. Does anyone agree with me? At least from what I see, most people enjoy Dragon Ball more after the Saiyans are introduced.
King Piccollo/Piccollo Jr. is my favorite arc of the series, The first search for the Dragon Balls is so much fun and all Tenkaichi Budokai are super fun. The only thing I didn't really love was Red Ribbon, I thought it was kinda stale in some parts and I wished we got a little bit more Launch.

Oh, no I completely agree. I’ve only watched the OG Dragon Ball anime, but I think it’s better than Z and Super and I’d love to watch it again.

Same here : watched the OG Dragon Ball anime as a kid and loved it, but stopped watching when Z started.
I loved the comedy parts in OG, which was missing in the Z part.
Well, I loved Dr. Slump as a kid too, so this explains that I guess.
