New poll is up.

Edit: Nevermind, I edited it.

I have no preference as long as the series is good. One Piece will surpass 1000 chapters and it is still good so I'm fine with it, on the other hand some series on the magazine right now I just want them to end already. XD

I agree with this. Length matters less to me than a story having the proper amount of time to be told to completion. Some stories can be 500+ chapters and feel like they ended too soon, and others can be sub-200 and overstay their welcome.

I voted under 300 just because nothing I've read that goes past that point doesn't feel dragged out (One Piece probably the closest but still does)

It's weird to me that 300 is the shortest category. There aren't many series that go on that long anyway, I feel like, but I definitely can think of very, very few that have crossed the three hundred line and still managed to feel strong from start to finish, and the two most notable ones, which were 329 and 340, weren't Jump series, anyway.

Well, I did put "under" for a reason. Besides, there was too many options previously.

I hope Tosh makes another succesful manga. I love his art.
Female sports manga :cheez

Something like Keijo

Tosh should try his hand at being a serialized writer. Negi Haruba was only the artist for one series before he came up with Gotoubun. Tosh's oneshot Our Love Counseling is not half bad. Scratch that, what about a non-H version of Harem Time?

I like long running series and the feeling of following something weekly for many years so i voted "under 600" but i don't mind going for "under 1000" too :P

Lol and this was pretty awk but funny from the recent chapters. RING flopping & Takeshi being half of that 5 years (still good but I think he wanted to have it run for 10 years lol)
Shima really underestimates himself. This may be a controversial opinion, but if there's a mangaka that possibly has more potential than Inoue and Oda, it's him.

Provided it stays good and not repetitive I'd want it to go on as long as possible. That doesn't happen though...

Legit, it strikes me how...impressive, the first half of 2018 looks in retrospective.

Like, we got two hits in Jujutsu Kaisen and Act-Age (though the latter took some time to grow) and the three that failed all had initial promise. Bozebeats had beautiful artwork (until it devolved into crappy digital scribbles) and Noah's Notes and ZIGA had unique concepts that were worth exploring.

And, in the roughly the same span of time, what did we get this year?

We got:
-A series which did have some honest promise on exploration, but lacked an interesting hook or strong pacing to garner an audience quickly.
-A disastrous mess of a come-back from Shiibashi.
-An underwhelming return for Kishimoto that has left readers feeling perpetually unfulfilled.
-A train-wreck of a shogi manga with zero direction or focus.
-An EXTREMELY generic and forgettable spokon.
-A generic and poorly recved battle manga with zero ongoing narrative.

I know you can dispute a few of those points, but I think Jump's editorial was not doing the best job this year >>
As you mentioned, three mangas in WSJ for the first half of 2018 still failed. It doesn't matter if you consider them promised, it still failed to reach audience.

Even Act-Age was more a surprise success. At another time or situation, it would have been canceled.

This is not WSJ doing a worse job this year, it is that sometimes things just don't work.

Thing is, it isn't that certain things worked out that was relevant, it was all the series from that period showed some semblance of potential from Chapter 1. Aside from Samurai 8 (which is more disappointing than anything else), I can't see what Jump saw in the March-May serializations that made them so worthy to be jump-started.

You don't see it, but that doesn't matters, they got published at the end of the day.

All series that are published is because they saw something in them, some potential for the general or a determinated audience, it's been like this since the beginning of the magazine and with all the series.

You seriously need to stop giving this round some kind of importance because its the first time you follow its sales, its just your normal flop round that we see all the time.

I literally see nothing in the new series this year that make it looks worse than sooo many other failures that were published in all these years, Shonen Jump is like any other manga magazine and the mangas published there are far from being "art" mangas, so i don't know where this idea that Shonen Jump is such a "worthy" place to be published comes from, Shonen Jump never had any "super high standard" when it comes to publish stuff, if the editors see potential in your work, you get published.

Also, can we stop pushing this "Everybody is disappointed with Samurai 8" narrative? right now is totally innacurate, since chapter 8 the manga is only getting better and getting more praise from readers, so is annoying this constant narrative being forced at people's throat like a universal truth.
