Which do you think ends first: OP or MHA?
It is very hard to measure both series because for One Piece it has a constant development and you know what is going on and what is the objective, but you don't know how long it will take. As for My Hero Academia, it doesn't seem to have a goal in mind at this point and I can see it going through eternity if it continues like that because it simply doesn't have a ending goal we can measure like "now we know it is going to end".

In the last interview this month Oda said he would like to finish One Piece in 5 years, of course you never take Oda seriously with dates but BNHA already have 5 years and i don't see Horikoshi going over 10 years but i absolutely not see OP ending in 5 years kkkkk.

One Piece and Yozakura had the "out of nowhere" chapters where Oda introduced more plot out nowhere, I was expecting the battle in Wano now, but we have a equally interesting thing going on now. I hope he shows the new battles as well because, man... I don't know whether I've ever seen Mihawk fighting serisouly, or even Boa Hancock, so looking forward to it.
After Oda offscreen Big Mom vs Kaido, I have no expectation of him portraying those battles.
Incidentally, I think I should take a break from One Piece for a while. It has been a long time since I last felt excited reading it.

Samurai 8's been mostly placed in that year-long+ zone alongside Yui Kamio so far, where it'll get a decent length run due to there always been stuff more worth cancelling. TSS is a full on flop however, maybe it's doing slightly better than Taisei and Beast Children but the 3 are taking up the bottom 3 every issue. It might get past 1 cancellation batch but definitely not two.

I think Samurai 8 will get a full run unless sales are utterly disastrous (which is very unlikely), it's only planned for 10 volumes anyway which is, what, 85 - 90 chapters? That's pretty reasonable for an eh but not awful performing series, Remember Dance Club lasted for 10 volumes with not impressive sales and mostly low rankings later on. Heck, Spring Weapon got 7 volumes and it performed worse than a bunch of quickly cancelled stuff.

Didnt people said here multiple times that the 10 volumes thing is just a initial estimative by Kishi and not a official number?

I really doubt that Kishi plans to end a battle shounen with such big world building in less than 100 chapters unless like you said, sales are terrible which is hard to see it happening

Astra Lost in Space was a sci-fi space travel focused series with a bunch of planets and unique lore and layers of conspiracies and it finished up nice and tightly naturally in under 50 chapters. Having a big world doesn't necessarily mean a big series, so far it seems to me Kishi was getting all the world building out of the way in the first two volumes so the rest can be purely about the plot and characters.

There's probably not much more lore to explore in terms of setting imo. Sure Kishi could world build every new location for ages like how OP world builds a ton for every island but personally I don't think that's what he's going for, even the homeworld was just kind of there while he built up the samurai system. I don't think it'll go full Eden's Zero and be One Piece in space, I get the impression the settings won't be important and expanded upon much.

2013 is outdated to you? this is the year BNHA started kkkkkk, i don't see what its so outdated about Kamio Yui and i don't even think this is much of a valid argument when talking about a manga selling, the manga industry is filled with "outdated" mangas selling good/great and to be very honest, if Kamio Yui is "outdated" for this current "generation", i think this speaks more about the generation than about the series and i'm not even saying the manga is great or something like that.

I was being nice if it was published in 2013, I didnt imply that 2013 is outdated. I said the manga itself is outdated that could succeed in every old school era. 2013 is till just an old timer. but look now, its gonna get axed anyway

100 chapters is alot for an manga like S8, if kishi keep the minimal world building like this,
that would.be enough let alone if they turn it into an anime, people will be satisfied. so I wont be surprised if it end on that. Maybe rain is right, S8 is a flop and his hate was all for the better. we should praise lord jerain (kappa).

I never realized that Samurai 8 was only planned for roughly 10 volumes. I was thinking it'd have a super long run, but hearing that comment, I guess it'll only run for 3 years max unless the author has a change of heart

I didn't know you guys were naive enough to believe in author's bullshit about the length of their works. Many talked about it through the years and zero fulfilled their promises. This is a business, what drives it is money, if it makes success Jump will not let it end without milking it, period.

If that was true 100% of the time, Assassination Classroom wouldn't have ended where it did and The Promised Neverland wouldn't be nearly concluded. The authors have some control over when they end their series, but if it's selling well, then it'd be much less likely any party would want the series to end as you already mentioned.

2013 is now considered old? Jesus, I must be ancient given I joined here in 2012.
It also says a lot about the ages of the so called "experts" we're arguing with.

The point is the words of an author about the planned lenght of a manga isn't so reliable. It is always possible they decide to continue.

Also, Kishimoto just estimate 10 volumes. It is possible he would extend the lenght if he can.

None of them said they would end the series in 10 volumes with the series having less than 20 chapters though. They didn't lie to us because they kept their mouth shut about their plans. Therefore we don't know for sure whether it had any extension, I didn't end Assassination Classroom, dropped it, so I cannot say whether I felt any extension. The Promised Neverland we will see.... If they invent a human world arc or something then we will know they are milking it. XD
