Ask yourself this. Would Hisoka look into it? :3c
Maybe I'm just forgetting, but how does Hisoka know all the fortunes? Also, three of them didn't even have one.

Just curious: have you been reading the fan scans or official translation?

Edit: "4 chapters later (2 years in real time...)"

During the entirety of the voyage proper (2016-2019), this has never been true, unless I'm misunderstanding you.
I read fan scans, for years, that was so long ago now! I think it was Yorkshin on the anime when I watched. Or maybe i misremembered? Not important anyway.

2 years in real time...it's an exaggeration. Although let's be honest, not by much.

Oh, I meant for the current arc. Given the amount of text, there's indeed a noticeable difference between the two.

Most definitely an exaggeration and by much, but I shouldn't be surprised at this point.

@thedude :

Of all the arcs the Chimera Ant arc narrates and tells without showing, or at least makes the pretense of doing so on the basis of indulging in combat analysis while the fights are in motion. It was one reason I didn't care for it at first until I realized the purpose was a critique on human nature, and thus was meant to be cerebral rather than thrilling blockbuster.

Contrary to this, the boat arc has been like a novel, I do understand where you're coming from there, and you're not completely wrong. However, just because there is a lot of text means nothing, by itself. I mean, I'm specifically referencing dialogue. Characters interacting, talking and monologuing to themselves about their goals and such, or arguing/warring with their desires (like with Zhang Lei) is the very definition of showing. And honestly, telling is just as important as showing to story-crafting. In fact it's essential and when something shows more than tells, you end up with stories like Fafner in the Azure anime, where most people are left scratching their heads.

I mean, yeah, the boat arc has lots of dialogue and explanation, and I do agree with you that it could definitely be trimmed to suite certain tastes, but I really don't think that it is constructed as categorically as a story lacking presentation of its themes and plot. Everything is constantly in motion with the dialogue. It's just giving us a more realistic approach by actually including the arguments people in real life would have while under such circumstances, I think. There's always a few paragraphs here and there that seem like padding.

But HxH is a tactical story to start with. Strategy is important. And combine that with Murder/Mystery/Assassination/Politics, and you're in for LOTs of in-character scheming. That requires lots of text. Lots of it. Doesn't matter if it's showing pictures or not.

Frankly it comes down to taste I guess. For me, the boat arc encapsulates HxH's essence, only surpassed by the initial Hunter Exam arc, which is still the best. It did somehow strike the balance between wit and action. The boat's the same, just far, far more of both. And this is assuming the action grows apocalyptic later. I would assume so (Cuz rewatching the Yorkshin arc has me tearing out my beard over the prophesies. We got one down with Shizuku offering to keep Chrollo company, which was the initiation of her foreseen downfall. The others are soon to surely follow). . .

Sorry for the rant, It's not meant to be, no, it's definitely more me putting my own analysis into it. But maybe that makes your point for you, thedude? Zehahahah! After all it's a lot of text!

On a completely different note: does anyone think that maybe the initiation for the prophesies regarding the Phantom Troupe were initiated because of Hisoka's death, or because they are coming into contact with the Shinigami (Kuropika) again? I mean, I know in context that yes, the prophesies are 100% accurate, but avoidable in certain cases. But the Phantom Troupe's versions seem rather morbidly set in stone, and very, very lyrical. The other fortune we saw with the mafia boss was awful accurate and easy to understand, requiring minimal interpretation. But he requested specific fortunes regarding events near at hand. In Chrollo's case, he wrote fortunes that weren't explicit and thus hard to properly interpret.

The thing is though, didn't the Lovely Ghost Writer only present a 3-week time period? Because it's been waaaay longer than 3 weeks, but the fortunes are already in motion... hence my question. Is the prophecy triggered by something, say, and when that trigger is avoided, it rests, but then activates upon the trigger's return, like a lightswitch opening or closing the.... err... (Gon moment) circuit?
I agree that a lot of text means nothing by itself. I feel that he is over explaining motivations though of characters who ultimately don't matter that much. Even in a novel I'd be wondering why i was in that characters perspective.

And I appreciate the "rant" lol. You aren't tearing into me, it's thoughful and i see where you are coming from. And like I said, maybe when (if) Togashi ever finishes this arc it will flow better. I find that happens a lot. Iin OP, the Dressrosa arc and WCI arcs just dragged on a weekly basis, but on re-reading them they aren't nearly as bad as I originally thought. Waiting weeks, or months, or even years between any real advancement tends to make stories drag more than they might actually be dragging, if that makes sense (to go back to Dressrosa, the one section that just dragged for me is when Luffy is recovering his stamina to finally finish off Doflamingo. It felt like it dragged forever, but in reality, it was 787-789, 3 chapters. It reads much better now than it did when it was a weekly read).

Lovely Ghostwriter prophecies take place over a month, so I think you can stop worrying about them. 4 or 5 sections made up of 3 or 4 sentences, each section representing a week in the month. So if they didn't meet their untimely end already, they are fine.

Relevant (from his interview with Kishimoto). :P

I love his art, paneling, etc., but I hope that he eventually finds an artist to work with so he can focus solely on the writing and storyboards. At least, say, 5 years from now.

Will this even return this year?

Or whole year's worth of Hiatus.

Best-case scenario at this point would be late December (just as in 2009). But by then, it would already be more than a year.

So yeah, late December or sometime in January (I hope).

I hope Togashi releases a whole lot of chapters as he took this long a Hiatus.

Yep. Since he’ll be reaching chapter 400, I’m hoping he goes 391-410. Just as he did for chapter 300, when he did 291-310.

Hisoka was in the same building when all the fortunes came together and were read.

And given how the whole current arc is based on skipping through weeks of time... I feel like the prophesies have two elements that nen-ignorant "Boss" (Cannot remember her name) did not know herself. In fact, her not knowing anything probably acted as perfect conditions for her power and allowed it to be so accurate.

Yes, they appear to be safe. And yet they aren't. Shalnark and Kortopi did in fact die. And Shizuku has initiated her prophesy. I think there is a trigger involved that sets the events in motion.

I mean let's face it look at Tserriednick. His nen beast manipulates time and spice while he's in Zetsu. At this point fortunes coming true in a predestined way is just mundane by comparison.

Ah ok. I just don’t remember them sharing all the fortunes with each other.

If Togashi had Hisoka explicitly refer back to them, I’d be impressed.

DC best moments is with the troupe side of story, just way too many characters and plot lines to remember, a lot of internal dialogue, overloaded text and when someone dies I don’t remember I won’t feel anything. Terror Sandwich is the only prince that resonated with me. Election arc so underrated how it explained stuff but made it fun and clear

That's because it's not smooth experience but there's been lots of periods of waiting and cooling off in between. If you read everything in one go, all the princes would leave behind a stronger taste in your mouth.

And also, how can you say you didn't shed a tear when that twin princess died. Christ even the hatsu names were tragic

That part was sad of course but dunno, the zodiacs left a stronger impression on me. Still dc could turn out better than ant arc solely from Ging/Pariston collab and troupe stuff

Even though it didn't have nearly as many characters/as much as text, I imagine there were similar feelings during CA, since it took 8 years to wrap up (and the usual reading scans vs. official volume release).

You don't have to like every prince, and hell, ones like Luzurus and Marayam we've barely gotten anything for. But you can see what Togashi is going for by connecting a character we know and like to one unknown, easing us in to things - Hanzo:Momoze | Melody:Kacho | Basho:Luzurus (though almost nothing has been done here) | Bisky:Marayam (not much so far, except the cute little moment in 383) | Izunavi:Tyson (a little bit, but let's be honest, Izunavi had pretty much nothing before this point lol). The Kurapika:Oito:Woble dynamic is probably the strongest so far.

But yeah, I hope he focuses a lot more on the characters that can benefit from page time, and not characters like random guard #84 (sorry, Kanjidol xD). Even a character like Rihan is getting a little too much focus. I know his ability his vital to Benjamin for taking out many of the other princes and their GSBs, but damn.

I think mid summer but this year is 10 chapters
I mean it makes sense cause 20 chapters are for 2018 and those 10 chapters are supposed to be on 2019 but this got early so 2019 is like big break and 2020 will be back to normal
