Huh, Summer Time Rendering had nipples today with the sensei. Pretty surprised as I don't remember any manga on mangaplus with it, which just makes me wish that Yunna was there and uncensored lol

Top 3 this week were Double Taisei, Act-Age, and Mitama.
I'm a bit bummed that Saotome and Dodo are matched up next week since I was hoping that all 5 of them could somehow end up going 15-3 and end up with a crazy 5-way tie. Not sure if tying/mutual losing is possible in Shogi, but if it is, I'd love it if that'd happen so they'd all be 15-3. That'd be a wild development.
I can't wait to see the LCP for Act-Age next week, and this week's Mitama may have been its best chapter yet. I'm glad it looks like the author is making some of the spirits recurring characters rather than having them all be one-off gags.
But Horikoshi's art is pretty fucking good. Also, fairly certain Kubo was talking as an artist to another artist. An artist's greatest strength is their art.
Eh. I see manga as a form of storytelling primarily and usually in these types of interviews people get praise for story, themes, characters, etc. The fact that Kubo doesn't even MENTION any of these and says immediately "Art." is quite telling.
Also, I can't post to 4chan from my IP range so thanks to some triggered person for using me as a strawman there haha. I was kinda spooked when I saw my MH handle mentioned there.
So for people reading Haikyuu, does this final arc seem like it's going to be a long one that could potentially last over a year, or does it seem like it's suddenly coming to a conclusion in like 1 or 2 more volumes? Imagine how crazy that'd be if everyone was trying to figure out what'd end first between WNL, Neverland, Kimetsu, and Yuuna, but then Haikyuu comes out of nowhere and ends before them all.

Did you read the whole interview? Horikoshi said his own characters didn't have the same impact as Kubo's due to Kubo's great sense of style. Kubo said a quick "no, no your characters are good too" and then immediately is first example of the good art in BNHA is the pipes in the joint training arc. And Kubo's main praise for Horikoshi's art is detail, aka lots of crosshatching and complexity of design, never style or sense or presentation.
I'm done with this topic, at this point anyone can endlessly create their own unique judgments from the interview. I've stated my interpretation.

Well, it sound like he told him that back before HeroAca. Don't know how deep the themes of Omagadoki zoo were XD. They talk about story and characters in the interview too.
But anyway, this is Kubo we're talking about. Bleach was 'style above everything' the manga. I wouldn't say Horikoshi goes quite that far, but MHA is still full of cool shots and panels that basically only exist to flex his artistic muscles. They're two 'artsy' dudes so of course their conversation is gonna revolve mainly about art.
Also I don't know what interviews have you read, but in the ones I've seen the praise is usually the same generic stuff there's in this one.

Alright I lied, I'm back. Did you read the whole interview? Kubo clearly said "If I were asked the same question (what is your strength) I'd reply the same thing even now." Doesn't mention theme, style, story, anything at all. Those are basically landmines for the interview. Since Horikoshi was being so humble and modest that he was self-depricating about whatever the subject was, if Kubo started touching the topic of story Horikoshi would inevitably say something too damaging to the series' reputation. I mean, the moment Deku was mentioned Horikoshi immediately jumped to say that Deku was boring and he didn't know what he was doing designing him like that. Regardless of whether or not it was true Kubo must have decided to avoid potential landmines in the conversation.
I don't the fact that Bleach has good style means that Kubo was not talented in terms of story, theme, characters, composition, etc. You seem to be implying that Kubo's great style means that he would only care about art in judging what makes a manga good.
Praise can be generic but it's never been, in a split-second "Yup you're good at art." And never mentioning any other elements. NO other elements.

Read any isekai with technically good art and tell me praising the series for "good art" implies that the themes are included.
>Horikoshi says to Kubo he doesn't really know what is his forte
>Kubo says his art
Like i said, Kubo is a "art" guy, he's crazy about art, style, fashion and stuff related to it, so is just normal that the thing he praises about Horikoshi is his art. Honestly, it just sounds like you're making negative interpretations for the sake of it because you don't like BNHA much.

Did you read the interview properly?
Kubo mentioned how complex and detailed Horikoshi's backgrounds are as opposed to his work which had minimal background art and then gave the example of the pipes. Horikoshi even joked about how his assistants were complaining and ask how much longer would that arc last.
The pipes weren't an example for the complexity of his characters. The whole topic started with Kubo mentioning how blown away he was with the detailed backgrounds that Horikoshi uses.
