Wow. The Act-age cover is so beautiful.

Also wtf Kimetsu next cover again?

Guys Is the leak on 4chan true that Hunter x Hunter will come back in issue 50 of shonen jump?
Just their usual trolling.

Just noticed the Stone spinoff is at the bottom. So I guess they'll treat it like if a gag series runs two chapters an issue. Curious to see if they keep it like that for the remaining seven.

To be fair, Yozakura's ranking isn't so good either.

At the moment, Yozakura is over Yuuna, which is better than other new manga in this year. However, it isn't a solid position either.
he was in the middle of the table, still good, even if he was just above yuuna.

wow, so that was 5 issues in a row... Maybe there will be no more break for #51, though if ever there would be, my bet is Kimetsu...
The OP breaks are standard though, so there's only 3 more than usual. Still, would be cool if they continued that way.

And I'm seriously starting to wonder if WSJ is low on new series to publish. Is it normal for them to launch only 2 new series in almost half a year (not counting the spin-off)?

Yeah, sometimes.

A recent example: The batches in 2017 were #10-16 (six series), #28-29 (two series), and #45-48(three series). So there was a period in 2017 where only two new series were launched in over half a year.

2018's batches were a bit more reasonably spread out, though. Sometimes we have longer gaps between batches like this, and sometimes we don't.

Btw, I think I discovered why Yunna isn't on mangaplus or VIZ: Seven Seas licensed the series, so VIZ (and Shueisha on M+) can't publish it on the west is my guess

It's probably better to count the number of series in each publication year. IIRC 2019 so far has 3 + 2 + 4 + 2 = 11 series starting. How does that stack up with other years?

11 is the norm lately.

2010: 8
2011: 10
2012: 12
2013: 11
2014: 14
2015: 13
2016: 11
2017: 11
2018: 11

However, since Dr. Stone reboot does count as a series, 2019 is actually at 12 debuts so far. So we've already gotten more debuts than the previous three years. If #51-52 is a new batch of two, this year will tie for the decade's record.

I would argue it's one of wsj most progressive title

MHA have touched upon many controversial topics to a varying degrees such as, mental illness (twice), drugs (overhaul) domestic abuse (endeavor), children abuse (eri, shoto, shigy), prejudice against quirkless (deku) systemic flaws (stain), extreme libertarianism (redestro)
they even address a modern day issue like the dangers of internet clout chasing (gentle)

but the original question is "progressive in term of feminism" so i digressed....
I thought about it and you made a great point, but I have to disagree.

In terms of sheer number of these so called "progressive issues" one piece has WAY more than BNHA. In fact any series that has the society/country/politics as a focus likely has a lot of these "progressive" topics. E.g. Rurouni.

For most progressive manga I would nominate HxH. I hardly need to explain why, it not only covers so much that is relevant in today's world, but also does it with far greater quality and depth than something like "quirk erasing drug! Okay drugs have been covered in BNHA. A trans woman is a villain and dies! Okay trans issues are covered in BNHA."

they're going to flip out when they find out the stuff that's been on an actual elementary magazine in Japan (Coro Coro)

:whistle
Like what? Very curious. Would you mind providing examples?
--- Double Post Merged, ---

It's more of a joke because the last chapter, despite being a good chapter Chainsaw Man is getting a bit predictable with the whole "crazy woman around Denji".
--- Double Post Merged, , Original Post Date: ---

Seriously? she just look less "crazy" compared to the others but she still a very mystery woman with probably some messed up past or actions, also isn't like she literally don't manipulate and uses Denji as a pet using sexual favors to motivate him.
If there's a sinister male villain do you go "oh no they're misrepresenting males." Did you see Aizen and go "Bleach is anti-men because the man is evil and a betrayer and calculating and real men aren't like that!"

Makima is a good character, hence she is a good female character. It's that simple.
--- Double Post Merged, ---

Anime producers even added that filler journalist since they judged the manga lacked women.

I don't know if it's the manga which handles its females worse, but from what I've read in Chainsawman (not much tbh), it's the manga that annoys me the most. I felt almost like the author hates women.
> The male characters in CSM are assholes
Hahaha funny lol
> The female characters are also assholes
WTF DOES FUJIMOTO HATE WOMEN???

also in terms of "progressiveness" (hate that word) FP had a kick-ass trans character.
--- Double Post Merged, ---

About your second point, this isn't exactly a thing only from male focused works. It literally has a similar problem on Josei and Shoujo demographics, which is 95% written by women unlike Shonen and Seinen which has a more fair distribution of man and woman authors and artists. I have read a sizeable number of manga from both demographics and there's many examples of fetishzation of rape, abuse and many things, which is never mentioned on the west because for the most part, we only comment about works from shonen and seinen.
Just for the record, fetishization of rape, abuse, etc. is no rarity in the west either. It's one of the most common female fantasies and as such is prevalent in female-targeted romantic/erotica. My point here is not to condemn, it's to say that if men like seeing boobs and women like reading about dicey situations like the above, I say they should have the freedom to do so. No need to censor so much.
--- Double Post Merged, ---

Wow there are many seiyuus here that are making their debut and the rest has little experience.
You kidding bruh my guy Judai Yuki is here

Pls no

ACT-AGE Lead Color Page
Once this gets an anime I really hope they get a studio that puts their whole back to make at least the key scenes look as gorgeous as this LC page. <3

Which studio do you think would suit Act Age anime? That should be a poll.

Would anyone happen to have any clue what the bubble above Denji's head in the issue 50 preview image is saying? My Japanese is lackluster and it's kind of blurry, but it says something about issue 52 and shows two characters I don't recognize.

So all KNY volumes are at >700k... and vol 1 at 800k... How close is KNY to OP now in the yearly race? Also, SxF 2 near 300k... maybe next week?
