Mag Talk Weekly Shonen Jump [2019] - Discussion and TOC Talk

Now it is official.

Arata Primal on Mangaplus/Jump+ has ended after 35 chapters. Volume 4 to release in December.

4th failure for Katsutoshi Murase after KO Sen and Dois Sol in Weekly Shonen Jump, and Mongrel in Weekly Young Jump.

However, he also did work on Karadagasagashi Jump+ manga adaptations of the popular novels which did well.

I don’t know that i’d count this as a complete failure for him as much as the writer he was paired with. Like Obata had countless chances, and I reckon that’s down to being a collaborator instead of sole creator

Jump+ news #2.

Dorei Yuugi has also ended today and suddenly after 61 chapters, and with no message for the final volume (unlike for Arata).

A sequel, Dorei Yuugi Guren, is coming on December 6.

Damn, so many ends on Jump+ this week. Arata Primal was on my list so I'll focus on it to read since it ended.

Very sad, arata was really something unique and fresh. The readers just got bored of the phasing...

At least Dorei Yuugi is getting a sequel/Real Account II-ing itself. Still kinda surprised about that.

Still sad they couldn't at least give it one more chapter. Too many things were handwaved (though the epilogue at the end was nice).

We're gonna have more. We know Dricam is ending, Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku and Summer Time Rendering seem to be nearing their climax, and Curtain's Up probably won't go beyond the current arc either. Also I hope Hine Change and Dear Sa-chan will die soon.

I'm guessing we'll see at least two of those wrap up before the end of the year.

Yozakura isn't in a really good position either, especially considering it is under Yuuna now.

It isn't impossible Yozakura fall in the bottom 5.

It's more of a trend with Nakano, before him basically any manga that started good/decently quickly got a color page, but after he turned EiC it seems much more difficult for the newbies get a color page:

Pre-Nakano:

Illegal Rare: ch10
Hinomaru Zumou: ch12
Boku no Hero Academia: ch9
Gakkyuu Houtei: ch7
Kagamigami: ch11
Black Clover: ch11
Sesuji wo Pin: ch8
Mononofu: ch7
Samon-kun wa Summoner: ch16
Yuragi-sou no Yuuna-san: ch7
Kimetsu no Yaiba: ch7
Yakusoku no Neverland: ch10
Spring Weapon Nº1: ch13
We Never Learn: ch10
Harapeko no Marie: ch8
Dr. Stone: ch9
Robot x Laserbeam: ch8

Post-Nakano:

Shuudan: ch7 (Started few issues before he was announced as editor in chief)
Act-Age: ch22
Jujutsu Kaisen: ch16
Shishunki Renaissance David-kun: ch9
Jimoto ga Japan: ch9
Chainsaw Man: ch15
Kamio Yui wa Kami wo Yui: Nothing in 35 chapters (already counting #51)
Samurai 8: ch7
Yozakura-san Chi no Daisakusen: Nothing in 13 chapters (already counting #51)
Mitama Secureity: Nothing in 13 chapters (already counting #51)

Maybe Nakano applies a similar strategy to Champion, which most of the time they only give cover page to the main titles or whatever is having anime or I am just talking out of my ass here. Iirc, Shy did got a cover recently.

the floppy 4 are reaching their 25 chapters, which means WSJ kept 4 flops at the same time for half a year

Final cover of the year is for our god and saviour

Spoiler

If Double Taisei would've been popular, I would've loved to see a cover of Haga wearing a Luffy costume tearing off the mask revealing himself. Double Taisei will remain a textbook example of just how important it is to have your first few chapters be exceptionally strong. It's infinitely harder to try to win back fans who were originally scared off rather than hook them right of the bat.

Heishi was the one before Nakano? why he left? he was a very good EiC

[Mammo]

Heishi was the one before Nakano? why he left? he was a very good EiC

yes he was the eic until 2017

dunno why he left, earlier this year he was a judge for a manga contest where they introduced him as:
"Yoshihisa Heishi, who leads the third editorial section at Shueisha, bringing together the company’s Weekly Shonen Jump, Jump SQ, V Jump, and Shonen Jump+ publications. Heishi has the distinction of being the founding editor of Takahashi’s Yu-Gi-Oh! manga and previously served as Weekly Shonen Jump’s editor in chief."

so he's still in the company

What is the last time a Shueisha title crossing 10 million mark? Not counting OP of course.

Based on my post #19,863

never since oricon 2008 lol, closest was 8.7 and 8.6 sets by Kuroko and AssClass (Kuroko did 8, 8.7 and 6.7 in 3 years though)

Lmao can you imagine how much money Gotogue is raking in each week from these sales. Even if it's split with assistants and all, its still huge and on top of that being paid the fixed rate from the magazine. Crazy

Still sad they couldn't at least give it one more chapter. Too many things were handwaved (though the epilogue at the end was nice).

I highly doubt Jigokuraku will end before the end of the year. There's quite a lot to cover when though it feels we're nearing the climax. I predict Jigokuraku to end either mid/late 2020 or early 2021 if we're lucky.

HQ just dropped to #2 on Shoseki Daily, it lost the first place to Ajin. A curious fact, Haikyuu and Ajin both released a volume back in June, but while HQ managed to mantain the second place (it was behind TPN) and Ajin debuted on #4 and dropped a few days later, now Ajin debuted on the top and pushed HQ down. Obviously HQ can go back up, but now I am really wondering how much HQ will sell in its second week and during the whole month.

I need to begin Dricam, I only read chapter 1 and I liked it. Nice to know that it's about to end. And yeah, Summer time it's about to end.

And Hina-chan is great, so I want it to continue. Loving the exploration of body change that they're doing. Like Shinsuki Bitter change which also dealt with it and I recommend it.
