Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

Black Clover's sales went down by almost a half in total, though. And yes, it's Oricon.
Even Japanese readers will have realized the laziness written over the last twenty chapters ....

Has nothing to do with them, though. BC's backlog just didn't sell as much as before.

Taking a look at Shoseki and KNY seems to be having another big week. If this boost keeps up KNY might top the half year chart in 2020 at least.

Nope, nothing from Togashi here (afaik).

Although it's easy to reach the conclusion that Sensui's gay, none of his personalities show that kind of affection toward Itsuki (not in the manga, anyway).

Itsuki, however, definitely gay. Complicated by stuff like:

Where?

I mean, I believe you have convinced yourself that they are gay, but was anything actually said (or shown) about it? Because "it's easy to reach the conclusion" sounds less like representation and more like stereotyping.

All those people asked for a BL in Jump...
Why don't you guys just reread Reborn?
There was a gay romance in there? Who? (I haven't read the series.)

About lgbt stuff, isn't jump plus a superior platform for that topic? Have you heard of Blue Flag.
Blue Flag isn't a BL action series. It's a pure romance story.

I want something that has a plot outside of "Who's going to hook up with whom?"

Oricon 2020 1st Week

Weekly Top 10

1. Kimetsu no Yaiba
2. Kingdom

3. Go Toubun no Hanayome
4. The Seven Deadly Sins
5. Shuumatsu no Valkyrie
6. Detective Conan - Zero's Tea Time
7. Komi-san wa Comyushou-desu
8. Grand Blue
9. Kusuriya no Hitorigoto ~Maomao no Koukyuu Nazotoki Techou~
10. Witch Hat Atelier

Damn Kingdom still dominating. Wonder how much of a boost it will get once the third season will be out. Also first time hearing about Witch Hat Atelier.

Guess I should've said, "I can see how one could reach that conclusion" for Shinobu,
but it is clear that many take Itsuki's feelings and just assume Shinobu felt the same way. But Itsuki himself? When he said he felt like he'd found a lover when they first met, and that after the fight, they'd spend their remaining days together, alone? I'll gladly take that in '93-4 WSJ.

Feel free to PM if you wanna keep chatting about this, since it's mostly YYH specific and not so much WSJ.

Sorry if I came across as dismissive, you've done nothing wrong.

It's just that I don't really count this kind of examples of 'gay characters in manga' because most of the readers probably didn't even notice, so it's pretty poor as far as representation/normalisation goes. (It's still fine to have them, but it'd be nice to have some more pronounced examples as well.)

From the prototype oneshot

"4 guys get trapped in space. Space god gives them medicine to turn one guy into girl to survive as humanity."
I absolutely adored Kurokuroku (Probably one of the very few who did), so much that I even bought the volumes for it. I've really been looking forward to the authors return. I'm not a fan of this one shot or the premise but I'm still very hopeful about it and hope it does well as I think this author has great potential!

Do you think action series with gay male protagonist would survive in Jump?

Do you think MHA, BC, Kimetsu would have the same popularity if Deku, Asta, Tanjiro would be gay?

Drawbacks are Jump main audience are boys/men and they could not accept gay male protagonist.

How many female protagonist have Jump in action series which are less 'controversial' than gay male.

China.

Even most 'fujo' stuff don't have canon gay.

Regardles I could see Jump greenlight gay action series but first they test water with Jump Plus series.

I haven't read BC in a while but I don't recall any explicit hetero stuff with any of them so probably? The closest is Deku's "Boobs!" thing and that's one joke at the end of a chapter. Other than that their sexuality really has nothing to do with the story and for all we know they could be gay or bi.

I mean, for all we know they could be gay or bi or even ace, but society automatically assumes someone is straight if they are not out. You don't need romance between two men or two women, what matters the most is well done representation. Also, just to add, this year China had The Untamed which was a huge live action series and based off of Mo Dao Zu Shi, an action BL donghua/novel.

New Jump+ series SSSS.Gridman Color Page
Jump+ is just gonna milk everything that comes out of Trigger, huh.

Yuno only has eyes for Asta, seems gay. I doubt it would change the series popularity especially since in most series, nothing conclusively romantic happens until like the very end.

Baks or Todo being gay is reasonable as well and I doubt that'd change popularity

Some readers are gay.

Also I dont think people would be against the idea, in fact, since there is such a drought and absence of such a lead, I bet the series would be initially popular because of how unique and different it is.

new numbers

MHA: 25 million
AA : 2 Million
yuuna : 3.6 million

Jigokuraku: 1.6 million
Expected of MHA with the new volume, really nice to see AA soaring more and more.

May I be wrong but China remove or tone down gay content.

Any series can survive as long as it's interesting.

Do you think MHA, BC, Kimetsu would have the same popularity if Deku, Asta, Tanjiro would be gay?
What makes you so sure they aren't?

Granted, Deku and Asta have girl crushes (which still doesn't guarantee they are straight, but close enough), but as far as I can remember Tanjiro, Luffy, Senku and Hinata never expressed romantic interest in anyone. You're just making assumptions here.

If Tanjiro suddenly started blushing around Inosuke in the next chapter, do you think people would stop following the series?

Drawbacks are Jump main audience are boys/men and they could not accept gay male protagonist.
You're sounding a little racist/sexist here. Surely not all Japanese men are close-minded bigots.

And roughly half of the readers are women anyway.

How many female protagonist have Jump in action series which are less 'controversial' than gay male.
Including Yui Kamio, three. Four if we count the girl from Mitama as the main character (she has at least three times more screentime than Mitama).

If we can have 20% women, surely there's room for one gay guy.

You really think Japan wants to use China as their moral compass?

Even most 'fujo' stuff don't have canon gay.
So?

It's not like they will stop liking the series when there are actual gay relationships in it. Quite the opposite.

Regardles I could see Jump greenlight gay action series but first they test water with Jump Plus series.
That'd be cool. Though Jump+has been using gay main characters for quite a while already.

It's toned down, but baby steps. Getting exposure to a source material that has homosexuality in a country like China is already meaningful as it is.
