Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

Moral of the story is Ufotable prints money, basically.

Do wonder if this will motivate Shueisha to look for studios with specific reputations to produce anime adaptations over using factory assembly groups like Perriot and A1. It's pretty clear Ufotable's production is in large part what got the KNY anime so much attention.
I dont think so since why didn't they do this since HQ/KnB/JJBA/etc. have their big hits? We've surely gotten poor adaptations since then.

That said, I think we will see Ufotable adapt WSJ titles or manga adaptations. I would love to see Jigokuraku adapted by them. If the editor wants Jigokuraku to be a million copy seller then getting ufotable or any highly talented studio/staff working on it is the first step I would say.

If this is going the Kamen Rider route (and Shibata does seem to be a fan per his twitter), then a villain group will surely show up. Though Rider villains tend to be established in the first episode or two...

A-1 didn't even work on any Shonen Jump IP tho. lol And their output is much lesser since last year, when Cloverworks got its rebranding name, became its own company and a direct subsidiary of Aniplex, as Cloverworks was A-1 Koenji, and the current and main A-1 is A-1 Asagaya. Which now don't need this name as there's only one A-1 building, unlike before.

Also, it's less about Shueisha since it's a group of companies in a committee doing that, which can come from outside offers or the contrary. Kimetsu had Aniplex, Shueisha and ufotable in its committee, for ex.

Nope. Not going to happen, as long as Nak is in charge. MHA gained critical acclaim not just because of the manga, but also the anime production. The problem with Jump is that they don't vet potential studios thoroughly. They just take whoever wants it and hope for the best. BC, on the other hand, if I recall, was Jump giving it to Pierrot because they wanted to. While they had the right idea in mind, it just wasn't going to work out as they probably hoped it to be, because viewers saw the anime for what it is, an average manga paired with an average (or worse) studio.
That's not how it works. Nakano don't exactly make those decisions alone as he's editor chief of the magazine. It's something much higher considering that those adaptations in many cases will have Shueisha's fund invested into the committee along its resources as well. Black Clover like you said came from a offer from TV Tokyo, which to this day continues to see positive sales on BC considering that it's on their top 5 revenue and sales since it began. Which according to nakano, it's a case by case, which should be as each adaptation has different companies working on it and so on.

Considering how few adaptations of Jump+ we got since it began (less than 5 with more than 60 established manga), I highly doubt we'll see much more, maybe with Spy x Family being the exception.

Even though as we see in recent cases, "Great adaptation=Huge boost?" It's not rocket science anymore. Instead of worrying about how much money will go into producing it, the committees should just focus on making the product as good as possible. We live in an age where burning through money is considered "normal". You look at the major start-ups around the world finding huge success despite burning a lot of money. That's because they're committed to make the product as good as possible.

It's pretty obvious who the villain is going to be, they've already been alluded to.

So volume 1,2 and 17 are officially 1M sellers?

TPN and Stone's backlogs are slowly going to fall off the weekly chart while KNY is still at the top with another big week of at least 40k for each volume. HQ is going to struggle a lot to reach the 500k figure for volume 40.

So volume 1,2 and 17 are officially 1M sellers?
Yes, Oricon's numbers tomorrow will confirm it. Possibily volumes 7 and 8 as well.

regarding the kimetsu movie and its chances of outperforming the mha movie: i think it's pretty obvious that it will, or at least i would be disappointed if it didn't.

for one, kimetsu has already far surpassed mha's peak with volume sales, reaching the elusive 1m first print. even the anime discs are selling well. second, the movie is canon, adapting one of the most important arcs in the story. this means that unless you want to skip a major arc in the story or risk getting spoiled, you have to see this movie. finally, it's a movie coming from ufotable, a studio known for its impressive visual performance.

as for one piece, i wouldn't be surprised if it did outperform stampede for the reasons above, but i'm not exactly expecting it to do so

Yaiba movie will most certainly outperform HeroAca in Japan. In the West, I'm not sure. IMO, for the US it mainly depends on how Aniplex USA decides to market and release the thing. There will be theatrical releases, but how long will those go on for. Considering how well Two Heroes did, I'd say a two-week showing max would be ideal.

Since tomorrow the 18th volume of Kimetsu no Yaiba is gonna be released, any bets on how much it’s gonna sell?
My predictions:

1st week - 600k
1 month - 1M

Some corrections to some people's posts.

Ufotable does not print money. Check out all of their projects. KnY was publicized well and it is good so it got popular.

The art in KnY is objectively good. The anatomy, foreshadowing, and paneling as the bare bones are done very well. If you have an issue with the style that is unfortunate.

Volume 17 took like 2 months to reach 1 million, doing 1.500.000 in 1 month is pretty much impossible right now.

That's not how "objective" works, you're just giving a personal opinion, but i do agree the art is good.

This is just insane, look at that pile of books that's already sold out. KNY 18 is also the #1 trend on twitter right now.

Shit, I meant anatomy and foreshortening (NOT foreshadowing) and paneling.
Paneling can be somewhat subjective but anatomy and foreshortening are pretty objective, as least the answer to "are Gotouge's art fundamentals there" is a resounding yes.

I just looked over stuff and the possibility of OP releasing only 3 volumes this year is becoming bigger and bigger. Volume 95 is being released at the end of December and it will collect all the chapters that are currently unpublished in tankoubon (usual 11 chapters, from 954 to 964). Since Oda has been taking a break every month and the double issues are coming out in December and January, volume 96 is most likely going to be published in late April or early May. OP's sales might take a hit in 2020 if this happens.
