Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

Why? Because, no matter your opinion on Samurai 8 as a manga, it's hard to argue its been giving Jump anything that justifies keeping it around. It really seems more to be just a matter of when Jump sees fit to end it.
Well, it did sell significantly more than anything not called Chainsawman from 2019. If volume 3 doesn't drop it can probably justify surviving the axe over bigger flops.

They don't put that sort of pressure to continue on authors any more, at least not as strong. We know that from Ass Class.
True but I'd say the situation is a bit different. Some of the big series are nearing their end. Assuming KNY, TPN, Haikyuu, Yuuna and WNL end next year, it'll leave a massive hole for the magazine. I'm sure Shueisha would be worried about it since none of the newer series after CSM are grabbing the attention of the readers. It's not unlikely they've thought letting kny run for longer until they have a stronger lineup.

Great that we're seeing this again. I wish we had the full information about what they worked as editor and launched in the market in their career though, it would make great things for analysis. Also nice how some of them are also on other magazines like Saikyo Jump, or in other publication like Jump+

Jump has no reason to cancel Samurai 8 now:

-Shortage of series, specially new popular series
-Neverland and We Never Learn ending very soon
-If they end up really having to cancel something quickly they can just pick the biggest flop between Zipman, Agravity Boys and the 2/3 new series that will start (probably) at #8
-We don't know the future of Yozakura and Mitama yet.
-Is selling more than enough to justify keeping it over less popular new series.
-It's very popular worldwide on Manga Plus and is already licensed in many countries

If Kamio Yui selling 4k gave enough to Jump keep for 36 chapters, why Samurai 8 selling over 30k and being a success in other countries isn't?

There's been cases where authors had to extend the series because of editorial pressure. So I basically meant it'd be nice if gotouge ignores them.
That happens, yes. Not only on WSJ but in every publication. But there's also the own mangaka which we have examples of them doing over 300 chapters because they wanted like Inagaki with Eyeshield:

Do you have an idea in mind of how long you'd like Dr. Stone to run?

Inagaki:
So as far as the end, I'm not sure and that's not necessarily about the story. We have a general idea of how the story will end itself but as we've gone along this journey, sometimes it's three steps forward, two steps back. I would be writing one storyline and I think it'll just be one storyline but it ends up taking ten, and then something I think is going to take five will only take one. It's a moving target and it's hard to tell.

One thing I can tell you is that in my head, I'm hoping three years and that's not to be greedy, but I definitely want to see it to the end. What I can definitely promise is that I would never stretch it out just for the sake of business. But I will definitely see it to the end.

I'm making a statement about making it longer than it needs to be due to business reasons because of my previous work, Eyeshield 21. Online, a lot of people were saying that maybe the editors had made it longer than necessary but in actuality that is exactly how I wanted to tell the story. There was also Murata-sensei's wish in there, too. That's why I wanted to double down on the guarantee that I would never overstay a story, so to speak.

Unless volume 3 shows a drastic decline in sales, it'd be absurd to cancel Samurai 8 now. We all know it underperformed based on both Shueisha and our own expectations of what it should've sold, but it still sold more than enough to not be a traditional flop. Unless Yozakura, Mitama, Zipman and Agravity Boys somehow all succeed, there is no reason to end a series that will push units.

AssClass' end lined up with Nisekoi, Bleach, Kochikame and Toriko. This is no different.

This will be my one post on the subject, since I'm getting frankly tired of this debate happening every few days.

PV for Jump+. Kanata no Astra, Spy x Family and Jigoraku are some of the volumes of the publication represented there

That was a cute PV. Man, it's kinda insane how Spy x Family just became the magazine's frontrunner. It's probably the Kimetsu of Jump+. God, imagine the sales for this when the inevitable anime adaptation releases.

Also, whats the fourth manga whose cover was advertised after those three?

They don't have to necessarily keep S8 in Weekly Shonen Jump (V Jump, Jump+ and Jump SQ still exist as venues) if it's worldwide popularity that matters. I think this all majorly relies on WNL and Neverland. I could see WNL dragging a bit now like Nisekoi did back then.
Also, we don't know how it's going to sell in Vol 3. It could (and likely will) drop for all we know, which puts it at the disadvantage too. Jump puts reception from the readers before the sales too.

Oneshots don't count as series. Since the Dr. Stone spin-off has ended there are officially 17 series in the magazine. Feel free to count. Typically 20 series is the max the magazine will have at one time. Therefore 3 empty slots. Yuuna, Zip, Agravity, Dr. Stone, One Piece, MHA, Demon Slayer, Black Clover, Haikyuu, TPN, Mitama, Yozakura, Samurai 8, Chainsaw Man, JJK, Act-Age, We Never Learn. 17 series.

Really like the look of the Matsuura/Goto story.
Doragagaga looks really cool.

Good arguments, I agree that those are some of the reasons for why it's very likely that S8 won't be cancelled.

Those are different publications though, which just some editors are responsible for some manga on Jump+ and other magazines. Of course everything goes in the end to Shueisha but you know what I mean.

At this point Yaiba has a real chance of going toe to toe with One Piece volume sales in the next releases...

WSJ could kick Samurai 8 to its sister magazines.
This could free up another slot, and with many series come to an end, they could make another giant batch like the U19 batch.

Also, want to bet with me if S8 gonna be moved to Saikyo or SQ? My bet is on Saikyo.

That would just cement Nakano as a incompetent, lets cancel Samurai 8 just to release more 5/6 series and 4 of them become failures kkkkk

My bad, I reread your post and you were just suggesting the manga to transfer into those others. I interpreted it wrong.

How would Nakano be incompetent for (theoretically) ending S8? The series has preformed heavily below expectations despite an extensive marketing campaign, and shows little if any signs of improving in terms of sales and reception. Continuing it just out of some kind of respect for Kishimoto even if it continues to stagnate would be the irrational business decision in this context.

Also, Jump taking chances is a fundamental part of business. Sometimes you score, sometimes you miss. Can't really complain if the ball isn't in your favor.

Or could cement Nakano as a legendary, cancelling work of former prominent author to have a batch full of success :hi.
You miss every shots you don't take.
