Nothing's new here, Korean have been playing the victim card for a long time. Japan has atoned for the past by completing 1965 treaty normalizing ties between the. two countries, but Korea never stop crying about the war.

For a person that comes from Vietnam, a country has suffered from many wars, I find it very laughable. Frankly, Korea has joined Vietnam war to get economic support from USA, sent many soldiers to our country and became a nightmare for Vietnamese people because of Korean mercenaris' cruelty. Until now, Vietnam still doesn't get any apology or compensation from Korea, but we don't hate them for what they've done. What is the point of clinging so hard to the past?
As another Vietnamese, your comparison is horrible as best. The relationship between Japan and Korea is more akin to the relationship between our nation and our Northern "brethen". I don't want to talk about politic here, but all your talk about how great our nation as let go of the past, it's only really happened when our government, (after our godfather died for good in 91), swallowed their investment shamelessly and created a great propaganda campaign about how a good pal Japan is (which I don't mind, I love Japanese culture and manga after all).
Unlike our cockroach nation and your so called "let go of the past", I view the Korean effort to push Japanese into accepting guilt in a positive light. I would rather call them: righteous justice.
Oh, and I didn't even mention the great famine of 45 caused by Japan. But I guess, in a hindsight. it was a necessary thing to provide the condition for our nation's independent.

So what do I intend with my wall of text? Well, as much as I love Japanese culture and manga, I would rather them to be more mindful and awareness of their atrocities. That applies to fan of Japanese culture as well. to acknowledge the less positive side of Japan.

P/S: I hope none of yall are bad enough to use the "honorable white" to excuse Japan crimes like what most 4channers do.

Hoh boy, didn't expcted MHA to become a topic of controversy. But it seems it should be at its end of discussion, so I am not give my two cents to it, pretty much everything that could be said was said on both sides.

Any of you guys got ideas for romcoms that you would like to see next?

Guess I'll dump my idea
We got this high school guy, pretty ordinary fellow. His heart flutters whenever he's close to a girl, but he later finds out that this is actually a cardiac condition that runs in the family. If he gets too close to a female for a long time, he will die. Unfortunatly, his own harem of female classmates start to form. But the thing is that they have no actual feelings for him at all. They consist of:

A girl who is quite literally chasing for his dick after to a false rumor surrounding his size begins to spread.
A girl who was blackmailed into doing so
A girl who is paid to do so
A girl who is curious about relationships
A girl who joins in just to expirience the thrill of competing with others.

With his newfound harem, the guy now has to fight for his life by fighting against his new harem, even if he has to use his fists.
Doesn't sound bad but not very "rom" to me. But in one girl who really loves him but doesn't take part in the harem and for MC to actually have to do the effort to notice her and find a way to deal with his heart issue to be with her and I would be interested.

So:
  • Mission: Yozakura Family
  • Mitama Secureity
  • Zipman
  • Agravity Boys
  • Undead x Unluck
  • Mashle
  • Guardian of the Witch
Of these seven, who shall be the ones to survive?
The Boys, The Undead, the Secureity, the Guardian and the Mashle shall survive. Zipman and Yozakura I see not much chance of surviving, maybe if WSJ lets S8 die before them but I doubt that will happen. I even fear for Mitama to bite the dust to keep S8 going but I think it being a pure comedy series might give it the slip of the axe.

Hoping we eventually get a School Rumble type of romcom in jump.
Man, yes! SR was the shit back then! Harima remains to me till this day as one of the funniest Main Protagonist ever, he was basically Gintoki and Shinpachi put into one person, had the most expressive sunglasses ever and a love triangle (Eri and Yakumo) in which he took like 0 part in (as in actively making one of the two his gf) while chasing his hopeless love with his delusions keeping him up and alive. XDDD

Done reading this week’s chapters, I can say Mashle is my favorite of this latest badge, I’m not to familiar with ONE’s style so I cant say anything regarding the comparisons but I can say I enjoyed its two chapters a lot. UxU kinda lost me a bit, guess I’ll give it a bit more of time to see how it goes. Witch’s Guardian wasnt bad, but it didnt excite me either. Guess I can say its my least hyped of the 3.

Even if Zipman isnt doing anything special right now I’m still genuinely enjoying a lot, Yozakura on the other hand, while there are some chapters I enjoy, I’ll have to agree that its kinda aimless right now and the family being put aside is definitely a Huge miss. I’m catching up on Mitama and after that I’ll go with Agravity Boys to give my veredict

My ranking will be Mashle>Zipman>Yozakura=UxU>WG

When it comes to backward attitudes and traditions that are restricting and offensive to many today, then your statement stands. Women rights / equality etc all fall under that.

When it comes atrocities and torture done to one race by another race, you (an external race) don't get a say in it. It's very simple.
So you mean I don't have a say about holocaust, holodomor, Nanking massacre, or Jallianwala Bagh massacre.
Everyone has right to talk about anything. What matters in the end is what their opinion actually about.

An example in this thread, I can easily and undeniably claim ruler of subzero water opinion bad and should be ignored on sight :umad

For somone who don't want ''twitter parasytes'' to become important, you talk a lot about it.

Anyways, Jump SQ series are out on M+
I know we are not supposed to talk about SQ series here, but just saying the way Ashihara handles his power/battle system in WT is something most mangakas should take a piece of. <3

It is definitely my place to tell someone that they are channeling their outrage in a wrong manner. You have freedoms, as long as they don't infringe on my freedoms. That's the fundamental principle, here. By education I mean educating people on things like studies and research that can find out what actually has a positive impact and what doesn't. Obviously even if you have a million people protesting if they go about it the wrong way maybe they'll do more harm than not. That's just an example.
Education may or may not help the process of understanding, but that does not mean that education on a certain subject does not lend credibility to people even if they are from a different race.
If you believe so, like it or not, that is RACISM. By definition.

The point isn't that education lets you "comment", it's that education is a large part of what provides actual answers and solutions, and that you shouldn't think because someone isn't part of a certain ethnic group, their arguments are immediately invalid.

The point is literally that you shouldn't always generalize, aka don't be racist.
In short
Horikoshi probably meant no harm.
He shouldn’t have named the character that.

He was rightly called out for it, as the group of ppl it offends are allowed to express that. He’s allowed to keep the name the same, but they’re allowed to criticize it.

He isn’t allowed to tell them not to find it offensive regardless of how educated he may be on the matter as he’s not a member of the group of ppl it offends. So he rightfully accepted his L and changed the name.

He shouldn’t be getting attacked further for it.
But just as he shouldn’t tell what others what can offend them, the same applies everywhere else.
A non black person cant tell a black person not to get offended by the N word, and tell them they shouldn’t criticize others for using the N word. A non LGBT person can’t tell a LGBT person that they shouldn’t get offended by the use of the F word.

If you’re someone who uses something offensive out of ignorance(which I believe was the case for Horikoshi) that fine, as long as long as they acknowledge the mistake and the fact that they offended people. But doubling down and continuing to offend people is never the way to go.

Horikoshi's naming of Ujiko had NOTHING to do with what came about with WWII, he NEVER meant the two to be a correlation of one another that was something that was brought up by the Korean fanbase as an outrage campaign against him because the naming convention is different between the two countries. Japanese readers have already pointed thus out several times since the chapter's release.

There are reasons for the name Maruta.
Quirkless characters have "tree"'s meaning related names. Deku 木偶Toshinori Yagi 八木 as well as Maruta (log). And they're related directly to Shiragaki 死柄木.
Moreover, Maru 丸 means circle = O. It refers to the truth that Dr.Ujiko is quirkless.
You are essentially accusing him for doing something that was never his intention to begin with and this is why this all blew up just people spreading misinformation and feeding these delusional people asking for reparations from a manga artist who was using s common surname in his country of origin.

Don’t know if itcan be discussed here, but it’s in the US Shonen Jump. Thoughts on the new Death Note one shot?

Personally I thought it was great

But I still want to get the last word in lol.
"A non black person cant tell a black person not to get offended by the N word."
This makes a large degree of sense. The problem is when you think that one example stands for all examples as many people here have been doing.
The problem is in the hypothetical case that a [Ethnic Group] person takes [Crazy Action] because it was justified by [Some Prejudicial Action Against Them] and they end up causing a lot of harm, or if such an action spreads on a large scale and it hurts a lot of people/causes damage/unrest.
If someone's just saying "hey man that's disrespectful" that's fine. Obviously.
That doesn't need to be discussed.

The problem is saying that if you don't belong to a certain race then your opinion is invalid.
It's literally racism. I don't know how I can spell that out clearer for you. In your attempts at creating equality you have really drawn the line of separation so clearly and without exception that the divide is just deeper but different and in a way that soothes your worldview.

Saying you can't call them out is just 1984.

Guys, feel free to discuss this controversy in regards to MHA and Horikoshi, but let's not start insulting countries.

Keep it about the controversy specifically.

The Death Note oneshot was really fun, way more than I expected. Made me realize the concept would be great for an anthology series or something it would be better than platinum end at least

There is a Jump SQ topic I assume it would be fine to discuss the one-shot in

Lets put it this way. You all can speak your "opinion" about any topic you want. But it's still MOOT because your education on a certain subject does not imply you've dealt with the consequences of what happened during those events.

My grandfather watched his parents struggle with the British rule, ended up finding his escape by the use of cigarettes. He forged a new path for his family but his habit of cigarettes led him to develop lung cancer and pass away before his time in turn leading to turmoil and struggle within my Mom's side of the family almost every day for the past 2-3 decades now. This is a story that can be seen in A LOT of families back in South Asia.
How can your educated opinion on something you've not experienced help this? It can't because you've not something that was caused due to the side effects of being oppressed. Anything you say as an outsider is moot and its rich to assume your opinion on the topic matters.

The current political climate between India and Pakistan is literally the after-effects of the British Rule. Led to three wars and on the brink of another. Countless families ruined, dead and forever changed. Your education on the subject does not give you any right to impose an opinion (whether for or against) on what these families feel. You have every right to say what you want, as most already do. But they are invalid and moot.
Any change that is required, has to happen from within and between all the concerned parties involved. It's why what is currently happening in India is horrible because its taking 3 steps back. But that's going besides the point now.

Same with this entire Horikoshi problem. Koreans and Chinese have every right to be angry and Horikoshi, if it was indeed deemed offensive by THEM. And Horikoshi needs to accept he made a mistake and make changes as needed (which he supposedly will do).

An outsider cannot tell them they should NOT be offended by it. It's rich to think you have any role in this whatsoever because its not YOUR history. If you want to share their anger, so be it. But there are many here who think it's an "overreaction" which is downright offensive.

So:
  • Mission: Yozakura Family
  • Mitama Secureity
  • Zipman
  • Agravity Boys
  • Undead x Unluck
  • Mashle
  • Guardian of the Witch
Of these seven, who shall be the ones to survive?
For the near future; Mitama Security, Agravity Boys, Undead Unluck, and Guardian of the Witch.

I don't read Yozakura, but it seems to have unimpressive word of mouth, and lackluster ToC performance.
I don't read Mitama either, but it seems to have decent word of mouth and ToC performance.
I read Zipman and like it, but it seems to have little direction to it other than action at the moment. Understandable given that too much exposition or character building at the start has hurt or killed other series, but there needs to be a balance and I don't think it's quite hitting it.
I've read Agravity Boys, and it's decent. Not my favorite given I've never really been attracted to Jump's gag series, but it shows promise. Its four MCs play well off each other, it has a few running gags going for it from the start, and has a decent amount of different jokes per chapter.
I've read Undead Unluck. It's a decent mix of action and comedy so far. I'm not certain how much legs it's starting premise will have, but I'm not sure either if it's interested in being a gag series with some action or an action series with some comedy; which would matter for it's longevity. In any case it seems to have enough original ideas going for it to feel somewhat new and different, which is a plus.
I've checked out Mashle. It's hard to judge the series long term with only a couple chapters out, but I'm not impressed so far. It's basically a Harry Potter parody using One Punch Man humor. Unfortunately for a series that's clearly aiming to be a gag series, it's jokes are basically just variants on "Mash is strong/blunt/dumb and people react with shock". That's going to get old quickly. Nor is Mash himself particularly interesting. So I appreciate what the series is trying to do, but I don't think it'll be enough for Jump.
I've read Guardian of the Witch, but it's near impossible to judge a series based off just the first chapter. It shows promise. The first chapter set up the world about as much as is needed at this stage, and set up the main characters, the conflict they'll face, and their goal. Not bad, but it's just a first chapter. Plenty of room to either improve or screw up. Still I think it has enough going for it to stick around over some of the other series.

Though I think all of these could stick around longer than people might expect, even if they're obvious failures out the gate. Enough older and established series could potentially end in the near future to open up space that one or two rounds could need to axe few, if any, series to open up space. Jump itself seems to have been more lenient within the last year or so, either for lack of a strong established line up hogging space, or in hopes of finding another series like Kimetsu that starts off low but grows significantly before exploding in popularity with an anime.
