Ground Rules for the Power Level Discussion Thread

As always, please follow the guidelines set by the Forum Rules that apply across the board.

It's important that discussions from a current chapter are spoiler tagged until 24h have passed from an english release.

• For the sake of constructive discussion, where and when possible please quote/ source any information you provide. Particularly when it comes to conversations carried over from other threads.
• Avoid passive agressive posts, sly remarks or baiting/trolling. You can certainly have fun or disagree without it being at someone's expense.
• Only use anime examples that are canon and as means to provide clarity to pages in the manga. Any other anime material is otherwise non-canon and should only be referenced if it can be proved that the mangaka had approved it.
• We will strive to avoid repetitive discussions and any extensive battle topics will be guided to the Davy Back fight to existing threads or new ones can be made there.

As of now these topics are shelved due to repetitiveness or until the manga can present us with material to further discussions:

1. Shanks v Mihawk
2. Hand to hand fighters > Swordsmen
3. Zoro > Luffy
4. Zoro v Sanji
5. Is Smoker a top 30 character?
6. Mihawk's rank within the story
7. Law having CoC currently.

If you wish to continue any of these discussion and remove it from the list, you will need to provide manga material as proof. If there's also anything you think we've covered numerous times, let me know and I'll update the list.

This is the only warning there'll be regarding these ground rules, anything no adhering will be removed. So please just check your posts before posting them.

Shank's doesn't care about seeing if he's stronger than anybody. He's a peacekeeper. If he cared about such things he would have found another rival after Mihawk stopped pursuing him constantly.

Zoro doesnt care about Shanks not caring. He is a swordsman, he is on Zoro's radar. "If it's a sword fight, I am up for it."

In this scenario I’m with you Nik. Let’s say (just an example) that after Wano arc the SH meets with RH Pirates. They party and all and Zoro asks for a friendly fight against Shanks because he is a former rival of Mihawk. I don’t see why Shanks don’t agree with this and I see it as totally possibly to happen.

Lol, don't you know talking Mihawk power is just code for "Zoro is stronger than everyone"?

In truth, it's hard to gauge the power of Shanks and Mihawk because they don't really have many feats that we can use. Roger is easy. He and Garp crushed the beastly Rock Pirates crew that included White Beard, Big Mom, Kaido, Shiki and the leader of those monsters, Rocks D. Zebec (if ever there was a movie they should make on some backstory, this war is it!). We saw Roger briefly clash with WB after casually knocking Oden away, the same Oden who would go on to nearly kill Kaido. Roger is likely stronger than either Shanks or Mihawk.

Shanks and Mihawk are tricky. All we know is they dueled a bunch. No indication that any was stronger than the other. Shanks lost an arm, they stopped dueling. Mihawk continued to duel other swordsmen and defeat them, becoming known as the Worlds Strongest Swordsman. That in no way puts him above Shanks. If he couldn't beat Shanks when they dueled (we have no idea who won these, but it's safe to assume these were mostly draws), he was never proven "stronger". It also makes his vivre card line about wanting someone to surpass Shanks make sense. Since he stopped dueling Shanks, he's not had a swordsman rival to get his blood going.

but that is only about their skill with a sword. It doesn't actually say who would win in a fight. And that's why I go back to their limited feats. Shanks, after losing an arm, became a Yonko (6 years later). This is due to whatever he and his small crew did in those 6 years. We know that he has the power to stop another Yonko (preventing Kaido from going to Marineford), and that BM felt she needed the power of the giants to be able to defeat Shanks and the RH Pirates. We know Shanks is both feared and respected by Pirate and Marine alike.

We know that when Mihawk wanted to test his strength against WB, he did it from hundreds of yards away. We know that when Shanks wanted to end a war, he stood in the middle of the action, with enemies all around, and said "Come on, We'll fight you", and that terrified marines, got Blackbeard to walk away (despite previously enjoying trying to destroy Marineford), and got the head of Marines to end the fight.

All indications are that Shanks is stronger than Mihawk. I won't say he's exponentially stronger, but I think in a fight he'd win, using his swords, his fists, his feet, and he'd get it done. Mihawk would likely be a high tier member of his crew, but he wouldn't be stronger than the boss. (i have a feeling that Mihawk may join his crew now that he's a free agent...well, not a feeling, but it would be cool!)

Depending on age.... as strong as Momo or stronger than King. Nothing in the middle.

I doubt King is as strong as Katakuri, but we will have to see. The son could be nearly as strong as Katakuri I'd hope

Hm, wonder why Mihawk vs. Shanks isn't mentioned more if the duel was as epic as Whitebeard claimed. Would love to see more of Mihawk and Shanks, whether their rivalry or any information. Mihawk is the WSS but by all accounts, it seems overall he's weaker than Shanks if it comes to fighting. And, did Shanks win the last sword fight with Mihawk and was the WSS until he lost his arm, or did Mihawk beat him fair and square? How did Mihawk become the WSS anyway? Did he beat every known swordsman or did he beat the previous WSS?
