Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

Undead had some discussion and people curious about it at least, Mashle had pretty much zero hype at all and it's done best in the ToC so far by quite a lot (better than all of last year's too I think, Samurai 8 started well but dropped to the bottom 5 after a few issues while Mashle's lowest placement so far is 7th).

What was the last series to rank as well as Mashle early on? Even hits like Jujutsu and Act-age and Chainsawman were low at first but climbed back up.

The 3m circulation is probably include volume 4 before they delay it.

So 600,000 first print (- some digital) more or less is HUGE

Mashle's average placement in the TOC has a nice edge compared to other newbies, it's even fairing better than a few other veterans. As for S8, it started dropping after chapter 12 (ironically after having the LCP in a double issue lol). S8's average was 4 by then, which is actually amazing, but we know the end of the story.

Do you think KNY could take One Piece's place or that will be hard to do? I don't really understand how this thing work ahahah

It's very unlikely. KNY has pretty much consolidated itself in the top 2, coming in at #1 for 2 issues and at #2 for 9 issues out of 19 so far. That's more than half the amount of issues we've had this year, not to mention it only placed below #3 twice. With KNY supposedly ending in May, it means its ranking will remain static for the rest of the year so the possibility of KNY's average ranking overtaking OP's will only depend on OP's placements from then on. Since there doesn't seem to be no series in WSJ that can directly compete with OP for a consolidated top 2 and consequently lower OP's average placement, it's hard for KNY to have the #1 average placement.

I'm fully expecting WSJ to start pushing JK and Act Age more upwards now once KNY and TPN end for better average placements. JK, especially.

It wouldn't be too crazy given Volume 3 initial print was revealed to be 400.000 copies, and a 200k increase given how it sells could be expected. It can get crazier tho if you think that 600k is Neverland's initial print, and that MHA's or OPM's is 660k.

I really, really don't want to get my hopes high. I'll wait until June. I wish it survives because I honestly enjoy it lots more than any other newbie, but I don't want to fall into despair.

Same, it's by far the newbie I enjoy the most, with Mitama coming close. We've had so many newbies get the chop in the past year and even stuff that has gathered considerable attention and numbers like Yozakura, UU and AB aren't guaranteed to stay for now, so it would be nice and refreshign to see a series succeed right off the bat like CSM did.

If it weren't for the whole KNY craze going on, people would be talking a lot more about SxF's impressive numbers.

Same. I adore Mashle so much but I'm not keeping my hopes up yet.

Let's talk about SxF a little then.

Unless I'm forgetting something, the fastest Volume 1 to have reached 1m units sold (not shipped, so since Oricon started giving sell-through data) is Haven't You Heard? I'm Sakamoto's, which reached 1m in 48 weeks.
(Can anyone confirm that it is indeed the holder of that record? I also wonder which manga is #2 if it is, probably Assassination Classroom?)

Using Shoseki estimates, SxF's first volume should be around 809k as of April 26th. It would need to do ~39k per week for the next five weeks to beat Sakamoto (SxF's 48th week ends on May 31st), so it seems highly unlikely that it can beat it.

However, reaching 1m in a year (52 weeks) seems possible.
There are 9 weeks left until that point, meaning it would need to sell an average of ~21k per weeks to reach 1m in under a year. With the upcoming 4th volume and the reprints that just arrived, I think it can do it.
Its weekly average for the 17 weeks of 2020 is 18.3k (however it sold quite poorly these past two weeks (stock issues maybe?), since its average for the first 15 weeks of 2020 was 19.7k per week)

Finally, If it manages to consitently sell a million units per volume, then starting 2021 it will be the second best-selling manga currently running (Attack on Titan and Demon Slayer will be over, so it will just be behind One Piece. I'm ignoring Hiatus x Hiatus, but even that isn't guaranteed 1m units sold anymore). Unless Kingdom rises to a higher level, I guess

And that's without an anime

Unless that radio host recommendation gives them a boost, Agravity and Undead x Unluck may not survive long enough.

I doubt we may see a new work from Akira in WSJ, as much as I would absolutely love it.

Might have been posted already but Jump+ is doing another contest to find the 'next generation' shounen manga star (this time with more relaxed rules), with guaranteed publication on Jump+ for the winner. Will be Judged by Jigokuraku's creator.

What's that left middle series on the picture? I know the others (Boukyaku Battery, Spy x Family, Abyss Rage, Heart Gear, and that Ring's Shadow series manga+ only has in Spanish). Also I guess Heart Gear's doing well enough to be pushed as a new generation hit? I guess that means it won't be getting cancelled, which is nice for the creator after Black Torch's failure.

It's cool that Jump+ is becoming its own thing with its own big hits now, competing with physical magazines. It used to kind-of feel like a site where they put stuff that didn't fit in WSJ to me, but now it's got an image of its own.
