Moderator Notice:
Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

I don't feel Time Paradox Ghost Writer is going to be like Bakuman, where mangaka was the plot. I feel is going to be more like The Comiq, where the MC being a mangaka was just a support base (remember the manga was a mistery one about resolving a murder because one innocent guy who got framed painted the manga pages in a determined way).

I still think is going to be more like Steins Gate, dunno. If someone gets the Jump earlier next week, pls inform
i doubt the first chapter is gonna show if it has a different road ahead

Time paradox ghost witer has an interesting premise. Let's hope the writer keeps the time travel mechanics simple because one thing about time travel stories is that some get needlessly complicated and start handwaving the rules they already made.

So kny is actually ending? This was the first manga I actually read from a week to week basis from about chapter 150. It was a nice ride while it lasted. Good luck to gotouge in whatever they do next.

I always like WSJ group covers. Are they the only magazine that does them?

Ah, you meant that. Sorry, I got confused. I don't have it, maybe someone else here does.

LTD aren't that frequently updated, reappearance are actually quite rare (KNY are skewing people perspectives)

Man, when are we going to hear about the other popularity polls? They ran close to AA's and there's no sign of them while AA's results were published more than a month ago.

I mean, "more than a mounth ago" is still only a few issues ago. Since, you know, delays and holidays.

It's now going to be just four issues since AA's was disclosed.

Are we really talking ages in shonen?? Like it would matter FFS lol

Saint Seiya's cast is 12-13 years old, Naruto's cast at the start of the manga is 12ish iirc.. Sakigake Otokojuku, Joojo and all the "macho looking" manga from the 80s have high school dudes that all look like arnold swardzeneger, Taikoubou in Hoshin Engi is 72 years old.. Goku doesn't even know his damn age lol

I mean why would age really matter?
One Piece doesn't really go for realism, one thing it severely lacks by design is romance (Funny because its first name was supposed to be Romance Dawn).
And at times I have thought that OP would benefit from romance, but I guess that's how Oda likes to write his story so whatever.

Again discussing age in shonen is kinda weird I mean.. For example what kind of 12 year old makes complicated life-changing plans regarding the usage of their fictional powers and thus proceeds to use his nen in certain parts of his body sacrificing his arms..?

Yeah, I don't think that's how 12 years old think but whatever.

Now don't get me wrong, there are some shonen series where age does matter and some elements of it affect the characters/plot like for example Slam Dunk: the romance triangle, the rivalries, the whole school club thing, the going pro instead of continuing studying, the "delinquent" fights, all the "This is my third year so I will graduate so let's give it all in this school tournament" moments all of those are truly characteristic of a person in high school..
this also applies for example to Hikaru No Go, but we can agree both of these series go for a more realistic approach than say something like One Piece or any other battle shonen.
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Also about Luffy
, his personality is pretty much a carbon copy of Goku, both of them do what they want and most of the times what they want to do just so happens to be done for a good cause, but they can both do pretty stupid stuff too, in a lot of cases for Luffy very reckless stuff, and in some cases for Goku some stuff that would even be considered "evil" or "selfish".

Goku is a more selfish than Luffy, he literally put the universe in danger just for his entertainment (He wanted to fight strong guys) something Luffy would never do. (BTW Toriyama himself said so in an interview).
And while Luffy also said that he's no hero because he doesn't want to share his meat with anyone (He literally says this in One Piece) so it gives you an idea of the kind of character Luffy is.
But there's a clear difference in both these characters that seem super similar in the surface, let's suppose there's a village being governed by some evil fishmen, both characters would no doubt fight said fishmen but their motivations would be different, Goku would do it because he wants to fight strong people, Luffy would do it to help the village *btw in a nutshell this is pretty much the copy/paste plot line of every single One Piece arc to date.

And also Goku isn't as dumb as Luffy is, Goku is just naive most of the time but Luffy is actually stupid in some occasions (Most of the times for the benefit of the comedy in the series, but still it's cannon).
Also one huge difference is that Luffy has experienced defeat in brutal ways.. I loved Dragon Ball but it was kinda hard to feel sorry for any character when you had seen Krillin getting revived for the xth time..

In that regard I consider Luffy to be a less selfish more stupid Goku that has actually matured to learn the limits of what he can do.

//////////////////////////////////////////

@Azure Warrior I think both Taikoubou from Hoshin Engi and Yoh Asakura from Shaman King are different from most protagonists, they are laid back and stuff, don't really train much and Taikoubou himself is based on a famous Chinese strategist so... Yeah definitely not your typical "zero brains, but strong" WSJ MC.

Time Paradox sounds like a lot of fun, gonna give it a try, the last manga I checked since its very beginning was Shokugeki so yeah time for a new weekly read that hopefully doesn't get cancelled.

Edit: Also as a yes/no question, did Kimetsu end this issue? Thanks.

People keep getting this wrong, goku didn't know that zeno would actually erase the losing universes and if we are judging goku based on stuff he doesnt know then goku saved 5 universes since originally zeno was going to destroy all five of them and goku gave them a chance for survival.

I missed some earlier discussions but just wanted to drop my two cents.

I think the fact we’re watching KNY make history is amazing. I know the sales data has l copy and paste like for the a while now but this is incredible scenes!

Also, i too think MHA should get a some form of push. It’s hype and cultural impact definitely outweigh its sales but i can appreciate it probably needs a lightning bottle moment. Maybe the speculated
breakout arc
could do the job.

Finally, lovely TOC this week, looking forward to reading!

Checked last year's thread, and it was only at 189 at this point, heh.
Well, what with the Kimetsu explosion, a couple of controversies here and there, one or two trolls peeking out the bushes, and there you have it, 1k pages by half-year. Oh, and Covid-19+#stayathome measures

Oldest protagonist in WSJ?

Taikoubo is 72, any other worthy candidates?
Not entirely sure it counts, but Atem/Yami from Yu-Gi-Oh is 3,000-ish years old. Granted his consciousness was sealed at the time he was 16, so like I said, not sure it counts.

Wasn't Dark Schneider like around over 400 when Bastard started?
