I don't know... I have mixed feelings about this ending.

It has been a great journey, but the last part of the story felt pretty rushed to me. It had so much potential, but seems that Gotouge wanted to finish the story as quickly as possible.

Talking about this last chapter... The reincarnation thing sounds weird, especially considering these descendants could be their grandchildren, how many generations have passed? Two or as much three.

But the thing that bugs me the most is that we never knew what the hell is the Blue Spider Lily, the very source of the demon powers of Muzan... I was expecting at least one single mention, but seems that Gotouge already forgot about it.

Yeah, I don't see a sequel happening. Even if it does, why would it involve the reincarnated characters? They are basically other people from the ones we knew. Demons are largely gone with yushiro, his cat and perhaps a few others who might or not have been treated by tamayo. I suppose the only loose end this series has is the blue spider lily... and perhaps the doctors that treated muzan and made him into a demon. but the story itself doesn't actually need to address those points to be complete.

You are probably right, knowing more about the Blue Spider Lily was not necessary to complete this story.

But if Gotouge raised the issue and didn't shut it down, then why did she mention it in the first place? Come on, one of Muzan's main goals in the first part was to find the flower and from one moment to the next he forgets it. And well, suppose the discovery that Nezuko's blood was able to resist sunlight was what made Muzan change targets and focus on her instead of the flower, that doesn't take away from the fact that out there is a highly dangerous flower that can create a monster like Muzan at any time. And yes, it could be the bridge to a potential sequel. But if Gotouge definitely didn't want to go on, I think at least giving a final explanation of the Blue Spider Lily would have been ideal.

now that I think about it, perhaps the character that makes the most sense as the old person watching about would be ubuyashiki. Seeing his family finally broken out of its curse and whatnot. That bit would be more satisfying than seeing a lonely tanjiro watching upon his resurrected friends.

a sequel is definitely possible, with the presence of drugs at the end of the series, its giving a hint that the blue spiderlily can be a reason for another conflict, since pharmacology and medicine is a big deal in the modern world. the slayers did defeat muzan and annihilated all demons, but technically they did not even found the source of demonification. plucking all the fruits in a tree doesnt mean the tree will not bear fruit anymore.
possible plots (in my opinion):
*a company introduces a "drug" that gives "eternal life" made from herbal substance. PS: it can even cure HIV and Cancer
*blue spiderlily rediscovered and used during wars. imagine a scene where dead soldiers were injected with blue spiderlily and made to fight nonstop. (i remember when baki's dad participated in ww2). and now they'll start ww3
*tanjiro/nezuko's descendant was kidnaped to be studied by mad scientists in order to create supersoldiers (like demon king tanjiro)
*muzan's lab accidentally discovered by a shady organization, seeking to revive him (much like orochimaru) and make him their weapon, or so they thought..
*a pandemic hits japan that causes people to devour humans. reincarnated chars and descendants do their best to survive. they meet yushiro who reminds them of the taisho era. they learn breaths and used them to fight monsters, in an adventure to find the source of the pandemic. imagine an apocaliptic world where mcs use what they have in hand (cutter, baseball bat, scalpel and even guns since its more handy now) and combine breath techniques. they can even create their own techniques due to technology.

I would kinda be down with the plot of a sequel being very close to the original series, but in a modern setting(meaning that things would obviously play out extremely different despite the plot threads being almost the same)

i think it wouldnt be the same again, because
1.) no demon slayer corps
2.) characters will act differently because theyre millenials
3.) no muzan, just blue spiderlillies in the hands of highly advanced people capable of studying it better.
4.) well see yushiro as a mentor if ever
5.) the government might be involved

Honestly I don't think a sequel needs to happen. The story is fine as it is. Though I wish the ending could've been centered on the surviving people of the old era and the ending is more open to interpretation like how magi ending was

But personally, I think a spin-off/gaiden series based on Kimetsu academy modern au with Tanjiro and friends in school would be nice. A nice, light hearted slice of life.

Tanjiro sounds like a horribly boring character for a modern day slice of life story. mostly on the fact that tanjiro's emotional range is somewhere between chirpy and zealously happy. in kimetsu he sort of worked because he served as a foul to demons, the characters in the series who were actually interesting. Lets be realistic, this series didn't work because of tanjiro, zenitsu, inosuke or nezuko's either non existent or dormant personality, this series worked because bloodthirsty demons carried it all the way through the end. Tanjiro without demons to foil is nothing.

Maybe the sequel revolves around hunting the demon born from the Tanjiro's muzan given eye and arm...

So cute!

One thing is clear. One looks like Yushiro and the other like Tanjiro. :zomg

From what I understood, they are Tanjirou and Kanao's great great great (?) grandchildren, they are brothers
How do you know that?
