Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

To add to that a lot of jump manga have worst themes in there manga yet they don’t receive a significant amount of controversy.
chainsaw man, death note ... the list goes on.

Yea that series is way better than black clover.
That's like saying Samurai 8 is better than Naruto, and S8 was a masterpiece compared to Hungry Joker that was terrible in all means (less the art)

OK Rain, when you say like "sizeable amount of the JP community", you really have to give something more to go on. I'm no saying you are wrong but something like this isn't common knowledge and can't be easily obtained (since no one here lives in Japan or is there? ). So is there anything you can give us to show that "sizeable amount of the JP community" does not like TPGW because the MC is a plagiarist?
About as much as when I said Samurai 8 was fiercely unpopular in Japan.

Which, you know, I was proven right about.

Weren't you saying Yozakura would sell very bad too?

Samurai 8 had bad toc positions and declining sales from volume to volume, that information is easy to get. But honestly if you have your own source or more insight into the jp fandom and you believe TPGW has a bad reception, more power to you.

Since you seem to be in contact with the JP community, why not give us a heads up on the manga which are going to last

I don't know about successful, but The Last Saiyuki, could have easily survived if it was in Sunday or Champion I think.
Doubt that, its terrible structure would have killed it anywhere. But I'm convinced it could have been a huge hit in Jump with a better editorial work to rethink the whole thing, because the author had fantastic ideas.

Yea that series is way better than black clover.
I recently read it, and I couldnt disagree more. I had fun with it, mostly because of the great artwork, but the writing was such a half-assed mess. It felt like Tabata never had any idea what he wanted to do, and the themes were only realized in the form of sloppy gimmicks. Black Clover is so much tighter and better planned out, he has improved a lot as an author.

The plagiarism angle is why I'm not too confident about Ghost Writer compared to many here being sure it's the next big hit. The story is really well constructed so far, but I don't know if readers can look past that or not. I get the idea that it's probably planning to show him finding his talent as the series goes on but it still irks me that we're reading about a guy who's having success because he plagiarised a future manga (even if he knows it's wrong).

The harassment in Undead and such is just quick gags and easy enough to skip over or treat as just a quirk of the series. Same with Chainsawman, Death Note, etc, they have objectionable things but it's easy to keep their acts at a distance because they're fantasy. They're disconnected from real life so it's easier to treat it as part of the series and not let it bother you personally.

A manga about a guy with no talent who plagiarises other more popular manga is too close-hitting to ignore. It feels like it's looking down on other manga and not in a fun satire way while lovingly embracing the cliches it's satirising like Medaka Box, rather it feels a bit mean-spirited because we're meant to sympathise and identify with him. Like it's saying to the reader 'this is you, your ideas suck because you're just copying popular manga you like'.

I know it's not the intent, but I can't help but feel that way reading about a series where I'm meant to relate to a guy who's plagiarising other better writers.

What Jump axes do you think would be successful and big hit right now if they were serialized in a different magazine exactly as they were(excluding the rushed endings, as they wouldn’t have ended)
Shuudan and Cross Account easily could have survived in Magazine and/or Sunday. Yokota is having 2 series right now with the Magic the Gathering manga and Ponkotsu which are within the same mood as Shudan and Dance Midgets were and those two magazines are more lenient to comfy series, meanwhile Date art was the best fit to a romcom and Magazine being the place of romcoms it could have fit there easily too.

Really that Ghostwriter can possibly fail because this? it seems like such a stupid and dumb reason, i want to believe Jump readers are better than this.

Rain likes to pretend that he wasn't rooting for the fall of the series from chapter 1, in chapter 5 he was already screaming the manga would be a failure because he simply didn't liked

It's important to remember that Japan takes plagiarism very seriously. There are instances of entire careers being destroyed because of even rumours of such things. Anyone who has seen Re;creators would understand what I'm talking about.

I don't think the art was Cross Account's problem. It was that the protagonist was basically Mamiya Takuji written as a romcom protagonist.

It might seem stupid to you, but this is a different culture and standards we're talking about. One should account for that.

Also, uh...no. I didn't like the series, yes, but I was saying the series was heading towards failure largely because I talked to people who told me about the poor reception.

It's not a stupid and dumb reason, the entire story so far is that the main character has no talent and is only finding success because he's plagiarising a much better writer.

It's not a tiny thing you can ignore to focus on the good stuff like the harassment gags at the start of Undead, if reading about a guy plagiarising manga bothers someone then they'll struggle to enjoy the series. There isn't other much more important stuff you can focus on because the series is all about the plagiarism.

The plagiarism angle is literally half the title! That's how baked into the story it is.

It's also worth noting that, even though the story has Sasaki remorseful of his action, it doesn't really punish him in that it still has him going through with the supa-awesome manga he never actually created. That he stole from Aino is dismissed on her not believing the time travel and deciding to create something even "better". Everything about the story goes out of its way to justify Sasaki going forward in his actions.

Sorry, but all that you said about death note and chainsaw man doesn't make any sense.
death note accompanies a protagonist who commits all kinds of crimes for the sake of his unhealthy justice and Chainsaw man I don't even need to talk.
Even boku no hero academia agent has characters like Bakugou who practiced bulling with the protagonist and Endeavor who mistreated his wife and children, and even then they are characters dear to the fandom.
So these complaints about team paradox are meaningless.

This conversation started because a "friend of Rain" who lives in Japan said that team paradox is not being well accepted because of the topic of plagiarism.
Japan has a lot of people, I don't think Rain's friend knows so many people.

This isn't some basis of the characters committing crimes. Adultery is far less serious a crime to murder, but it's far easier to justify why a character committed the latter and make the audience connect with them still. Light is an actual supervillain, but Sasaki is just a pathetic, talentless loser who, rather than trying to grow, steals from someone else while going on about how much that sucks.

This is the central difference here.

Amalgam of Distortion I think would have survived in any other magazine. It seemed pretty interesting, so I'm surprised it got axed. Were the sales and TOC ranking low for it?

Sales were surprisingly decent, but the TOC was very low.

So? Why i'm (or anyone) supposed to be offended or something for being a story about a failed author who receives a Jump from the future in his microwave and using it to be popular? It's just a story, i'm supposed to read the manga and follow what the author has in store for the characters and story, not be offended or whining because "oh my God, plagiarism wahhh" it's literally the point of the series, it's like not enjoying Death Note because "it's wrong to kill people, i'm so offended!".

Sorry, still a stupid and dumb reason for me, but i get that "Japan".

To be fair to Rain, I have seen people on other sites start to turn against the manga this chapter because the MC wasn’t completely punished for his plagiarism. I... struggle to understand why this series would have a harder time being successful when Undead Unluck opened with sexual assault for two or three chapters, but I dunno Japan’s culture. I think it could salvage itself for those disgruntled people by having the MC fail relatively quickly, as he tries to keep up with the expectations he made but never really earned.

I’m not sure about Chainsaw Man, as I haven’t read it, but in Death Note, Light not being a good person was kind of the point. Same with Endeavor in HeroAca. Their actions have meaningful, logical consequences that linger throughout the story, which we haven’t seen in Ghostwriter yet. I have faith in the manga, though. I’m still interested in the main leads.
