Is it bad that I can remember all of these supporting/side characters better than I can remember OP's?

I can see itachi being in top three. He could do no wrong in the fans eyes back in the day. I never cared for him for someone reason, his character was kind of boring. Good character, written better than most but again..boring in persona. I actually prefer his brother because of his flaws, and wasn't a perfect genius.
Despite this, I still put him on my list because his character is written better than most in Naruto. I don't choose characters based on favoritism or interest only.

Eh, he's my top 2, and I think he's done some wrong, but I get what you mean. His aura and intelligence are what was appealing for me, because he was calm but able to deduce things quickly.

For me especially Shino. He was so cool and mysterious in the Chunin exam, but after that he just became a pre-school teacher never to be seen again.

Yeah I put Shino and Kiba on my list at first because I remembered how much I liked them during the first part of the series but then remembered they pretty much went AWOL.. such a shame.

Sakura is far worse - at least Hinata got some character development (also, Sakura was [kinda] meant to be one of the main 3 - being in the same squad as Naruto and Sasuke)

Hinata started as living wallpaper - stalking Naruto through the streets and passing out every time he so much as looked at her
Hinata had her spat with Neji, as he tried to lay all the faults of the clan at her feet (in a small way at least). She refused to back down, even though she was utterly outclassed - she used this experience to drive her onto trying to improve her skills
When Konoha burned, following Pain's attack, it was only Hinata that manned up and tried to help Naruto out - having her chance to finally force the eejit to listen to her confession
After all the magic-tree-BS was over, Hinata won - she got with the man she wanted, ending up as the wife of the Hokage

This isn't to say that I think Hinata is a particularly interesting character, but she is considerably more developed than most of the other female characters in Naruto (Sakura included)

Even if you 'suck at writing female characters' - you could still have done more justice to her than that

It wasn't that she even lacked the opportunities to develop - she had plenty of chances (during the chunin exams, when she studied under Tsunade, when she fought Sasori, when Sasuke tried [for the 2nd(?!?) time] to murder her...)

She's a character who'd probably be better thought of the less she is shown in the manga

The only thing that Sakura does have going for her is that she lacks the rabid fans (that other characters have)

I love so much her guts, her honesty, her "cold" side, and her softer one too, her ethics. i dont think of any other female chars written that well. she has some of the best lines of the manga too.

Yeah i regret too Konan hasnt appeared more, she was the best female creation of Kishi and my fave Naruto char.

My point basically comes down to people dragging Sakura for the same reasons as Hinata - simping for a moronic boy. The only difference is she was capable of saying something other than her beloved's name. Naruto finally picked Hinata because she risked her life for him and the village. I mean, that's great and everything but I wouldn't put it on her CV.
