Anbu being presented as fearsome ninjas initially and ended up being crap and for the most part non-existent is one of the most disappointing part of Naruto for me (the mass Edo tensei is definitely still the worst thing)

To be honest, I didn't think there was anything wrong or illogical about Kabuto's progression as a character. He should have died but tbh he and Danzo seem to be logical products of their environment at the very least (compare to bishounen Minato etc.)

Kabuto should have been Sakura's rival instead of a main protagonist

Adhering to 'mainstream popularity' is not the way to play this game. You need to stick to your personal bias regardless on how other people perceive them.

People like popular characters, some don't. That's just how it is.

Only action I remember him gettin was being penetrated by Itachi in genjutsu

I often stick to pictures drawn by the author himself (mostly crops form color panels/color spreads/volume cover) or by the key animator (I avoid picking the calendar art, and other merch drawing in MAL most of the time) when it comes to choosing the profile picture of the characters.

Presenting the characters along side profile fan arts actually worked well in Naruto's case surprisingly.
Presenting the author's original drawing/character composition through manga panels and animated drawings through clips worked well with the usage of fan arts as their profile picture.

But Naruto seemed like yesterday....was quite tempted to do the Dragonball one but.

A lot of fragments of what Naruto could have been if it were a better manga than it turned out to be in those rankings.

Asuma and Kurenai both fall in that Konan category of cool characters that never actually had much purpose. Asuma at least had a cool death scene. Kurenai was like Konan's sempai in having an awesome design and core idea. But chucked in the dumpster due to bad writing. Utterly wasted.

Kushina I don't really have an opinion on because I sort of associate her with all the retcons stuff that descended on the series like an avalanche. Another good characters design. Naruto's mom was, in fact, pretty hot.

Then there is Kabuto. Smug bastard. Very hateable, which I appreciate in a villian. Really unfortunate that after Orochimaru dies(kinda) he's just a pathetic plot device. A fate worse than death.
