Kisame was a cool villain. No complaints about that one.

Hinata is just unfortunate. She's one of the better looking characters in Naruto, I think. And the basic idea for her character as this shy character that's just too nice and sensitive to really make it in a harsh elite ninja clan. I like that a lot to. She just wasn't a part of the story. Not really. Even her chunnin exam moment was really more Neji's than it was hers.

Then to make matters worse she just never had any opinons about anything. Her entire character was that she liked and admired Naruto. How did she feel about Sasuke? Never addressed. She is the ultimate non-threatening female character. She will never question anybody about anything or conflict with anybody in any way. She speaks when spoken to. Which is a little gross to me to do that with a heroine but that reflects more on Kishi than it does on her character.

Also I think Hinata is another big victim of the shoddy writing in latter half of the series.

Really when Kishi decided she and Naruto were going to get together she should have been sent to center stage. Like she needed to be a part of that turtle island arc and parts of the story like it. To actually have conversations and options and react to things. Form a bond with Naruto that people like myself could have invested in.

It would have been more impactful for me I think if she hadn't done it for Naruto. Because that was really the problem with her, she was so Naruto dependent as a character.

I wanted more than that. A good romance to me needs two characters who are interesting independent of the romance plot. Like Shikamaru and Temari. I like and am interested in those characters independently of one another but together I like them even more. Hinata almost didn't exist independently from Naruto. That's why she didn't make my list.

I feel that making Naruto: The Last was a desesperate move to make up all those 700 chapters where Kishimoto had many chances to make Naruto and Hinata properly interact if them ending up together was so wanted.
