Finally caught up on the thread haha. Seems like my list is very mainstream considering I have only lost 3 so far. I guess it is to be expected since half my list is Akatsuki members.

I was really tempted to pick Temari and Kimimaro. The former was seriously shafted, but she had a few good moments early on. The latter made a good impression while he was around. Konan was pretty cool too.

I am also glad to see Kisame so high. In retrospect, maybe I should have placed him a little higher on my list since he is one of the only Akatsuki to not return from the dead (and thus degrade his character). Dude went out like a boss.

Danzou was wrong in multiple aspects. His personal obsession level rivalry with Hiruzen clouded his decisions. Perhaps he thought he was mimicking Tobirama better than Hiruzen did, but ultimately, his rationale was off.

By that point in the story, the Uchiha hadn't been retconned to be literal gods yet. They were just a super strong battling clan. Byakugan was "almost" equally valued and the Hyuuga were top dogs. After all the powers later given to the Uchiha, it makes zero sense that Danzou wanted them dead, but at the time of this decision, they were mortals and their loss could be compensated. Looking back, nobody would want to wipe them, of course.

Their loss couldn't have been compensated even back then when they had normal powers, because Sharingan was still pretty useful even before it was OP. Konoha's strength was still reduced, and had the Uchiha been alive and things resolved, then Orochimaru might not have done as much damage as he did.

A great and fun character and side villain. Probably one of the very few, if not the only one, to get along with his partner and have high amount of respect. I actually loved how his and Itachi's relationship came across as superior-inferior sort of thing, and that's only because of how Kisame behaved towards Itachi.

So much potential there as well that went wasted. Could have done so much better with her after the loss to Neji and kept building her character up, regardless of future plan as Naruto's love interest, but NOPE. NOPITY NOPE FUCK THAT, AND FUCK SAKURA WHEN SHE HAD A CHANCE

god freakin' dang at the last gif. Ragdolled so hard. Take out the part where she's falling, and one would think she'd be having one of those acid trips.

Also I think Hinata is another big victim of the shoddy writing in latter half of the series.

Really when Kishi decided she and Naruto were going to get together she should have been sent to center stage. Like she needed to be a part of that turtle island arc and parts of the story like it. To actually have conversations and options and react to things. Form a bond with Naruto that people like myself could have invested in.

It would have been more impactful for me I think if she hadn't done it for Naruto. Because that was really the problem with her, she was so Naruto dependent as a character.

I wanted more than that. A good romance to me needs two characters who are interesting independent of the romance plot. Like Shikamaru and Temari. I like and am interested in those characters independently of one another but together I like them even more. Hinata almost didn't exist independently from Naruto. That's why she didn't make my list.

Would have loved to see her come as her own as a character before getting with Naruto and then adding her own personality and character to that mix, as you said.

He did some good things but overall, he was such a horrible leader. Segregated the Uchiha and treated them suspiciously, for once, which made some of them realize that Madara wasn't being paranoid.

I find Tobirama fans and defenders to be quite messed up.

Such a fun and explosive character, and I liked his dynamic with Tobi and Sasori. He and Hidan could have been great together. You KNOW he was a great character when people overlook how easily Itachi pwned him.

Agreed. I mean, the main reason why NaruSaku even had the support it did was because Naruto wanted Sakura, at least that's the main argument I remember. I just don't understand why Kishi could have included that, few chapters more wouldn't have hurt the bank.

They had no problem letting Hashirama be the hokage. I don't think it's fair to just pin everything on the Uchiha when the Senju and even Danzou and HIruzen were guilty as well. Danzou engineered it so the Uchiha would be wiped out, while Hiruzen didn't reverse Tobirama's prejudiced acts.

Dunno if the Uchiha were meant to be villains though as it wasn't until Tobi revealed everything to Sasuke that they looked bad. And once you dived into Tobirama's flashback, Tobi proved that the Uchiha faced prejudice from the hokage, but disguised as "trust." And to be honest, from what I remember, Uchiha only got the blame from readers because of bias/hate.

Why would he do that if he was such a great guy like he was being retconned into being? So Kishi had to add the part where the Uchiha's were getting ready to stage a coup. This was required to give an even semi acceptable explanation for why Itachi would conceivably side with Konoha against the Uchiha clan.

This created a fundamental problem. Because if what Itachi did wasn't totally villainous than neither was what Danzou did. This extends all the way to Tobarima. He linked all of them.

To make matters worse. Every example of an Uchiha does something awful in the story. Itachi murders his clan. Sasuke does all kinds of horrible stuff like joining forces with Orochimaru shortly after he murders Hiruzen and attacking a peace summit, and the really crazy shit he does at the end. Obito naturally is just as bad. Madara. Etc. Then there was all that stuff about the curse of hatred that he linked to them so that the sharingan was like a manifestation of hatred and evil. It was established as inherently destructive. Where as the will of fire was established as inherently good. It was selfishness versus selflessness.

Which, very unfortunately, makes the case that Tobirama was right to be wary of them. And everything he feared would happen pretty much did. And the only stuff we saw around those events, the Itachi stuff, actually reinforces that idea instead of illustrating that it was prejudiced and wrong, like it should do.

The whole thing is a mess. So much so that I don't really think we can say for sure that Tobirama was wrong.

Yeah, but even though it was obvious Tobirama deserved a lot of the blame, fans were still hellbent on blaming Uchiha and defending Tobirama. They'd have found anything to stick the blame on Sasuke's clan.


Oddly, all that minus Obito can be explained. Itachi did it on orders to protect his brother and the village. Danzou gave him a choice of committing genocide and ensuring his brother survives, or having Konoha do it and not spare his brother. All on the orders from the village and especially Danzou, who stopped Shisui and Itachi from trying to prevent the coup using Shisui's Mangekyo, even.

Sasuke did what he did because he wanted revenge against Itachi after being mindfucked by both him, Orochimaru, and even the Sound 4. I mean, didn't Itachi use Tsukuyomi to make Sasuke relive losing his family over and over for 24 hours? Until Orochimaru, Sasuke was becoming more and more about Konoha and started caring about Naruto and Sakura until his superiority complex came into play when Naruto beat Gaara. Then Kakashi reminded Sasuke of how bad vengeance was, and he actually reconsidered until Sound 4 beat him up. After Tobi tells him the truth though, then it's basically "what the fuck you dumbfuck Sasuke?" Because like, he said he loves his brother, but he was also willing to destroy everything his brother sacrificed his life for. Made no sense.

Madara was the product of war and hatred, seeing losses after losses. Dude lost 2-3 brothers, and then he lost his only surviving brother when they were young adults. Madara was willing to peace though, but Tobirama's prejudice and suspicious ways made Madara think that the Uchiha wouldn't be treated well. Had Tobirama not been a shitty person, then Madara would likely not have left the village or turned. Of course, had Izuna not told him to be wary of Senju, then maybe Konoha would have been created earlier.

Oddly, wasn't the Will of Fire shown to be bad as well? I mean, "DO IT FOR KONOHA!!!" led to Pain attacking the village, as well as Danzou sacrificing people to gain power. Hell, Tobirama's "Will of Fire" is likely what led the Uchiha to turn. Without Tobirama's machinations, Madara would not have seen Senju as the enemy again, the Uchiha would not have been segregated from rest of the village, Danzou wouldn't have picked up Tobirama's shitty ways, probably, Uchiha would not get mad at how they're treated, no coup d'etat, Danzou wouldn't be plotting Uchiha's demise for Sharingan eyes, Itachi would still be part of Konoha, and Sasuke would still be a good guy. Fuck Obito though.

From what I see and know, Tobirama was in the wrong, and he's the problem behind it all. He screwed up so badly that it was felt generations later. Personally, I find blaming Uchiha to be utter BS.
