It's a tad long, so I've spoilered it

I loved him before the flashbacks to him saving Konohagakure - also, his

There's not much to say on him tbh

When he was first talked about in the manga, he was a mysterious character who, somehow, managed to save the village from an unbeatable monster. He sacrificed his life to seal the monster in some random newborn and (overlooking the obvious moral issues of not giving Naruto a say in the matter), was a veritable hero


Later on, through Jiraiya, we are introduced to one of his signature techniques (the rasengan) - a jutsu more powerful than chidori (which we'd already seen to be an incredible technique (for the time)

At this point, my interest in him was pretty high - I was hoping that Naruto would be taught more of his techniques and we'd be exposed to more of his story, through Jiraiya's teaching (I'd have dug that, had Kishimoto decided to go in that direction)

All was looking great for Minato - a super interesting character


At some point (forgive if this occured later on, I'm typing it quickly [whilst I have some free time]) we get the flashback to him during the war. I actually quite liked this. His Hiraishin technique was great. Powerful, worthy of his moniker, but not appearing as OP as some of the battlefield-changing moves we see later on
Minato was efficient and uncompromising (though, tbh, I dunno if it was so wise leaving Kakashi, Obito and Rin alone, it was kinda necessary to the plot [I guess])

I was still a fan


The 9 tails attack on Konohagakure was hit and miss for me. His fight with Obito was great and all, but I kinda think the manga should've kept the events surrounding the 9 tails attack a little more mysterious. Kushina being the previous host was awful. Obito controlling the fox via Uchiha hax was awful. The way that the 9 tails was dealt with and the final parts (with the Death Reaper Sealing jutsu) was also not to my tastes...


Then we have him being brought back under Edo Tensei... yeah...

At this point his character really starts to fall apart
Stupid jokes on nomenclature
Having the other half of the 9 tails sealed inside him and being able to use the 9-tails mode (whatever it's called)
Him having an emotional breakdown when he realised that Tobi was Obito - thinking it was somehow his fault?!?
Having many of his techniques being designed by someone else (Tobirama)...

All trash, I'm afraid


At least he didn't suffer as much as some of the other Edo Tensei

Then I think the ultimate FU is the first arc of Boruto where Sarada doesn't believe Sakura is really her mom. That's just cruel

I've not touched Boruto (for obvious reasons [though, had Naruto kept on at part 1 power levels, I'd have dug Boruto hard... probably]), but that does seem a rather unnecessary joke to run

I'm also indifferent to Hashirama. I hate naive, do gooder characters to be honest. It can be fine in certain instances, but often times, they are rewarded for it. Hashirama is one of those types. Sage Mode looked cool though. You know who it would've also looked cool on? Tsunade.

Sarada actually runs to Karin who she thinks is her real mom. And it actually made the case for a while that she might be. It was awful. Just like most stories involving Sakura are.

If your a Sakura fan you've got the Sasori fight and that's pretty much it.

Ok, I expected a lot from this ranking, but not Naruto and Sasuke being out of top 10

I'm honestly indifferent to both Blondie and Pretty Boy. Kishi didn't play well with these two imo, Sasuke was flouncing around the world most of the time like he didn't really know what to do with himself (but on the other hand he was manipulated first by Itachi, then Obito) and Naruto was typical shounen protagonist - first zero, then hero and his unrequired love obsession about Sasuke, which was emphasized part of his story, didn't add much to his development - I'd rather say it was exaggerated and downplaying. Sasuke's fights were at least interesting to watch (for me anyway), cause if there was no Rasengan and Kagebunshin, then I don't know, how Naruto would fight. By the end of the story they both were so OP it hurted to read.

I feel sorry for Neji, someone important had to die in this war and Kishi chose him, because frankly I don't see any other reason for him dying. Did his sacrifice at least make a difference to the story? Help other characters develop? I don't recall any of that. He just died, topic closed. It should've been handled better.

Minato is cool and badass, great shinobi and reliable Hokage, but as a father - shitty asf Who the hell seal a demonic creature in their newborn son, only because they "have a feeling he is special" and they "believe in him"? Oh come on, there must've been a better excusions than that. He deserved the punch in the stomach Naruto gave him for greetings.

And I forgot about putting Sasori on my list - everlasting shame on me

I think this is something I can agree with. Because making the one behind the Nine Tails Attack as Obito also raises questions like, he was able to get into the village THAT easily and take the Nine Tails, why didn't he just do it again with Naruto as a kid? Also that whole argument of the Tailed Beasts needing to be sealed in chronological order just goes out the window when you realize Obito was going to take the Nine Tails there and then.....

A large part of the dead characters being ranked is that they were ruined through Edo Tensei. People are ranking them based on their legacy, not their actual relevance IMO.

I mean, I also understand it though. So many characters ended up being a wet fart in the end that you kind of have to go back and only rank them for their positive qualities but REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

His flashback with Bee and Ay - Yeah, that was just a display of 'cool', it added little to the plot, was rather pointless in general (did he really need a background with Bee and Ay?), made Minato appear a fool for not just shanking Bee (something that would've benefited the story IMHO)... and then he just walks away?!?

He could easily have taken those 2 out - removed a Jinchuriki and a Kage potential in one go and he decided not to...

... he'd lost a lot of the rawness he kinda had in the Kakashi flashback
